Anderson Silva Says He Doesn't Need To Change His Style

One of the biggest questions in the fallout of Anderson Silva’s defeat at UFC 162 was ‘why the hell was he standing with his hands down?’. The previously unbeaten (in the UFC) Spider stood for an eternity with his fists by his waist, until Chris Weidman capitalized.

One big left hook and some reality TV tears, and the MMA world is no longer how we know it. But was it such a real surprise? Look back over all of Silva’s fights and tell me there wasn’t a chance of this happening before.

Fans even went as far as speculating bribery and foul play during the bout, that Silva must have taken a dive; but the reality is that he got caught, just like anyone can. Anyway, the video below shows The Spider getting pretty fired up when asked about changing his style for the rematch.

The clip also shows a stale piece of bread Weidman basically saying he doesn’t know what will happen in the rematch. So, Yeah.

Also addressed in the video is the New Jersey Athletic Comission’s proposal for new weight cutting rules. A real breath of fresh air given recent unfortunate events. The proposal doesn’t cover last minute replacements, but does seem do give a firm and safer guideline to weight cutting ahead of fights.

I've never given you any poop in a diaper Rory, but that "stale piece of bread thing was a bit ridiculous. Personally, hearing what Anderson said was more painful to me.
    .
The short clip of Sergio there did show a good strike that I hadnt seen before.

You could very well be correct Hate, but it is MMA. You can be right 90% of the time, but theres always that 10 percent that will make you wrong. I still cant deny the skills I saw Weidman possess in the first fight. He can take you down, he's got a strong mind, and we know he has KO power. Silva better give 100 % or it might very well go the same way again, maybe even a sub. Chris did state that he could have kept Silva down but chose a different path.

    @ HATE:

Weidman will be lying flat on the mat.

Your Raiders finally won again. Congrats!

Nothing wrong with the Spiders style... Just respect the opponent that's trying to rip his head off.

what makes the way he fights disrespectful? Are you not trying to do everything to win including breaking the others fighters will? some do it with countless take downs or ground control, Silva does it with his hands down bob and weave. I'm sick of the disrespecting the opponent nonsense, especially from people who like the Diaz brothers who taunt all fight and flip fighters off scream constant profanities at the opponent. Silva's style is Silva's style. The more he tried his antics in the cage and they worked the more he added. I believe he got carried away last fight and I'm sure he won't repeat that performance.

I was about to post that. Dude looks at least 20lbs. heavier that Josh.

I hope the same old Spider comes out but walks out with the belt. He's right, before getting KO'd, everyone was in awe of his fighting style.

Your post made me do some research. Glover has an 86% finish rate so far, he's 33 and 6 ft 2", no way of knowing what his walk around weight is though.
Jones is 6 ft 4" and has a finishing rate of 79% finishing rate I know doesnt mean much with different comp. Will be interesting to see if Glover comes in heavier than Jones on fight day. I see Rampage and Glover's stand up very similar, but Rampage has never showed much of a ground game (possibly due to knee damage IDK)

Why should he change his style?

As long as the champ takes this fight seriously this time around, it's his fight to lose.

    Silva via - TKO - round 2.

Listening to Anderson butcher the English language is unbearable..... He does not need to change his style, he just needs to humble the phuck up.

He didn't lose because his hands were low. He lost because he was dancing around and not paying attention to Wiedman.
