Anderson Silva: If my rib wasn't broken, I'd have finished Chael Sonnen in the first round

Hot on the heels of his heated words from the UFC 148 media conference call, UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva shows a rarely seen side of himself in a video from FoxSports.com. Stating that he is ready to go for a big war, he believes that he would have finished Chael Sonnen in the first round at UFC 117 were it not for his broken rib. We have seen endless trash talk from Sonnen leading up to this fight, now we are starting to see more and more from the usually calm and reserved Brazilian champion. UFC 148's main event may be the most anticipated fight in UFC history. The video showcases some of Silva's greatest highlights. There is no doubt that he is one of the greatest fighters to ever step into the Octagon. Does Chael Sonnen have what it takes to destroy a highly motivated and healthy Anderson Silva? We will find out on July 7th, in what promises to be an epic match regardless of the result.

If Anderson improves his wrestling and takedown defense (and he's more likely to do so), Chael is up for a war...I doubt the Spider can finish in the first roud, though...Chael has never really been beat or manhandled by anyone during his MMA career. The same cannot be said about Silva...........................

Anderson if your rib was broken you would have screamed out in agony when Chael was pounding on your ribs. He did so a number of times to make openings to punch the head. And Anderson seemed normal. I don't care how tough you people wanna say Anderson is. No man on this earth would keep a straight face if his rib was already broken. And someone is punching it repeatedly. case closed. Anderson's a douche and a **** to the fans. And a liar for that matter.

everyone knows that chael is the liar/cheater. have you ever been in a fight? let alone a fight where there's so much on the line? things don't really start hurting before the adrenalin level drops again. and even if you're in pain, you have to survive. what else would you do? quit because your rip is hurting?

I'm pretty sure that a healthy spider will destroy a clean chael any day.

Wait, he couldnt have kept a straight face because of pain, and no man is that stoic? Rich Franklin had his arm broken by Chuck Liddell, yet he continued punching him with it, blocking with it, and even pushed himself off the ground with it when Check was holding him down. Rich did not scream. People who fight and take damage for a living are usually extraordinarily resilient in the face of pain. Unless, of course, their name is Bob Sapp

i disagree. If you saw the fight with demian maia he manhandled sonnen in the first round with a lateral drop takedown, mount, and then triangle. He didnt even break a sweat, look that shit up

I consider that being man handled

I don't he got hit with a lateral drop out of no where that he wasn't ready for. Then was already mounted by a guy who was still literally the best BJJ guy in the world. Manhandled is what Chael did to Dan Miller, or Matt Hughes did to Sakurai.

right ...cuz the doctors will allow a fighter to step in the octagon with such a major injury, this is the kind of thing that pisses me of about Silva, trying to make an excuse for the beating he got.

why not say Chael got the best of him find a way to win and he did.

why not say next time he will be better and finish Sonnen sonner?

why the stupid excuse, we know is a lie no dr will allow that.

so why the trouble of keeping that excuse for so long.

There really wasn't much to say back. I find that most of your statements are either incorrect, illogical or simply not agreeable to me and I took this opportunity to make a joke at your expense. Also, since you are a writer, there should be no comma between the words "Anderson" and "and". Also, your last two sentences should be one sentence. Anderson did very wrong in the Maia fight.

That's fine as I have fun picking apart your illogical banter daily. It is rare that you make any coherent sense. You should probably start researching a little bit more if you think I am incorrect on things I post as your opinions (and "facts" that are usually far from accurate) are laughable at times (not in a good way).

But (oops messed up again didn't I) thank you for correcting me! I was worried that I had placed a comma wrong all day.

Side note: Your posts aren't as bad as others, but you really should look yours over before you try to correct anybody else. They are by no means perfect. Then again you could actually move forward from 2006, and just not correct grammatical errors on an MMA comment board. As it is conversational in nature, and not meant to be a finished copy.

If the ref was not there to stop the fight after the beating I hope Chael gets and you said stretcher and not wheel chair I would be all over that bet. I would even give you even odds.

I feel the injured ribs played a major factor in the first fight. I don't see Chael making it past the 3rd this time, even with the extra MAN JUICE he is pumping into his body. A healthy Spider should finish Chael early.

I also feel Chael was lucky the Bisbing fight was only three rounds, he was gassed out by the third and had no punching power left by the end of the fight. Rogan actually had Bisbing winning for what that's worth

Anderson is a fraud , he claim to be the best yet didnt want the rematch with Sonnen like if Sonnen was that skill, he isn't , he is just a great wrestler but that's it , i doubt any rib had to do with him being drop twice but such a bad striker like Sonnen.

Sonnen beat his ass because he was there to fight while Silva wanted to dance like always , Sonnen did not let him and put him in a fight, now he wants to make that excuse , broken ribs got unnoticed

by the Doctors , then someone should sue that Doctor HA!

Silva is a fraud building himself in the weakest division instead of fighting where he should at Light Heavyweight, even Dan Henderson is fighting Light Heavyweights and Heavyweights

and he's shorter , smaller and with much less reach now that's a real ****ing fighter, while Hendo is fighting Jones, Silva was bitching about fighting Chael yeah Silva what a man you are.

Bruce, Anderson only has what, 3-4 losses total? It is almost immaterial what hi record is out side of the UFC because including it makes his case stronger. His most recent losses outside the UFC were a DQ in a fight he was winning and a freak loss to Chonnen.

By the way, the Silva nut huggers (not the Silva fans just the extreme fans that can't see reality due to the cloud of adoration that interferes with thinking straight) will tell you on one hand Anderson has a chin of iron and can take punches like nobody and in the next breath say Chael has no punching power. The video some Silva FANatics made showing him taking punches has been removed by the UFC but you can't have the argument both ways. Sonnen knocked Silva down more than once. Step up the debate son, you're looking foolish.

Given that he has taken harder punches from guys who ACTUALLY hit hard, anybody not throwing hugs from their knees will really ignore that argument.

And remember, chael has no actual fans, because it doesn't take a rocket scientist to lookup some of the punches silva has taken from strikers, and wonder what happened with chael.

I believe people are dumb enough to overlook that (clearly) but i don't believe anyone is dumb enough to actually be a chael sonnen fan, just a hater.

Once in the first but you know how the kids are. Ironically, that shot comes right before anderson silva suplexes sonnen and completes a double leg!

Now what makes more sense? Sonnen is a heavy handed power puncher because he hit anderson, knocked him down and surely noone would be dumb enough to say that anderson was close to being finished?(as fighters pretty much always are when they are knocked down..unless)

Or that he surprised anderson with a hard punch that was surprisingly accurate, but ultimately ineffective since an effective punch could have lead to a GSP situation with what's his face. Looked good though.

If we use the former logic, we must also look at silvas takedown."omg he suplexed and double legged an olympic wrestler!?!? wtf no wrestling?" You can't have it both ways right? So i guess sonnen is an amazing puncher and anderson is an amazing wrestler.

Or maybe people should stop using their heads as a posterior plug and use their common sense.

Durp. False dichotomy. Maybe he hit him with one good punch at the right time, and then like 1000 other weak punches. the reason we're saying they are weak, is because when else could you let a roided up guy beat down someone's face pretty much for free...for more than 15 mins, and the guy walks away without a scratch?

Why would you even ask that question after what i said? I have to be so careful explaining things and that's why i need to write a book.

LMAO. FRUAD LOL Why should Silva fight at LHW ? no such thing as natural weight, only the perception that has been created in sports there's nothing natural about cutting 15 plus pounds to fight even if you do it right. Jon Jones looks a weight class above most of his opponents and just imagine what Hendo will actually look like standing next to him Silva owned Hendo and made him look average and Hendo clearly told him after the fight ''Anderson your a true champion'' and that was off the mic. Silva is gonna humiliate Sonnen and give us another crazy highlight to add to his list and a true fan of MMA who appreciates talent and skill I'm not gonna find excuses to discredit him. If I had your attitude you could pick holes in every ''legend'' in the game. I could easily find ways pick holes in a fighters resume Liddell, Fedor, Cro Cop, Wandi, Randy, etc etc if we all wanted to we could be like you A HATER!!!!!!

Maybe you should look up the definition of excuse. An excuse for winning would be like "Whoops it was a complete mistake when i dunked on lebron, i only got away with it because i didn't eat that day and i smashed my knee before the game"

No, I'm privy to what the word means. I'm not sure you do though so I'll post the link from merriam-webster:

Anderson Silva is excusing his performance from the fight. Otherwise this article wouldn't have even existed.

He's right up there with Tito and his "Cracked Skull!".

There's already been rumors of his knee being screwed up that he downplayed. Wonder if he loses if those will become more accurate after the fact.

It's a fight, not a death match. Do you watch car races and hope for accidents?

Anderson Silva fanboys have taken over as the most delusional MMA fans on the planet since BJ Penn retired.

AS comments have been translated so i wonder if he said "broken" or "injured"? either way i think the 1st fight was a combination of AS being actually surprised that chael was not afraid of him and his level of wrestling and his rib was injured and as you know that is a bitch of a injury to do anything with particularly to wrestle a tst zombie like chael. however a fully (ish) healed AS is going to dominate chael and but a beating on him, Love or Hate AS is the best fighter as of today, chael is an interesting puzzle for AS but im sure we will see he has it figured out bc AS has the physical tools but also dont forget he is very smart as well. Lets enjoy a nice fight between these two great competitors and watch one of them have his wrestling stifled and his neck choked :)

People should really stop and analyze the TRT as it relates to Sonnen. He was allowed to use TRT due to hypogonadism from another Commission, when that particular document was not found he was subject to reinstate his suspension (after it was reduced) by CSAC. Now all the paper work has been cleared and Sonnen is allowed to use TRT legally. What happened after the first Silva fight was a bit shady, I'm not disputing that. Just saying he is legally allowed to be on TRT.

I think the problem was more what TRT was used to boost his levels to. A 6:1 ratio, besides being the highest alowed, is also about the highest possible naturally in a human being. Chael was 16.9:1 after Silva. Frank Mir got proper TRT, and came in at 1:1 after his fight with JDS. Chael was literally about three times higher than is humanly possible. That was the issue.

He was not allowed to use the TRT by any other commission at the time (except maybe Texas since they wouldn't have had a record for it or denied it anyway). He said that he was cleared through Nevada, when in fact he was anything but.

The NSAC just okd his TRT use about 2 months ago.

Anderson wanted to prove a point in the first fight by submitting sonnen. He wasn't trying to strike with him. He had a broken rib which severely hurt his performance. A healthy Anderson whom will keep the right standing= chael ktfo

I guess when you're so used to being the one giving the beating, it's awfully hard to come to terms with being the one taking the beating.

Anderson is one of the best fighters that ever lived, I can understand why he doesn't want to give props to Chael, but if you believe his ribs were broken before the fight, you're high.

Chael broke his ribs in the first round. You can see it in the video.

If his ribs were already fractured, and he took that kind of power shot, he would have been spitting blood and have a hard time lifting his arms above his chest.

One of his trainers admitted this right after the fight. Go ahead and search it, although it's been pushed down google by Silva's revisionist history.

One person took a pounding in that fight, and another one won, but they are not the same person.

Why is that Chael fans are all making jokes and Silva fans are treating this like this is a fight to the death instead of a well-hyped grudge match?

If Anderson a better fighter? By overall record, without question. Is he the favorite? Absolutely.

But if you think him winning is a sure thing, you don't know much about combat sports.
