Amanda Nunes Annihilates Miesha Tate To Win UFC Title
The main event of UFC 200 was originally supposed to feature a welterweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. That changed when “Notorious” refused to play the game. A very thankful Jon Jones took the headliner spot and was set to face Daniel Cormier to determine who would be the undisputed light heavyweight champion.
Then USADA dropped a bomb and revealed Jones was flagged for a potential anti-doping violation. Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt were then announced as the headliner (see result here), but the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) decided that the women’s bantamweight title fight was better suited for the honor.
And so it was Miesha Tate (18-6) defending her 135-pound title against Amanda Nunes (13-4) to close out the biggest event in the history of mixed martial arts.
The “Lioness” took full advantage of the opportunity and walked away with the gold in brutal fashion.
One minute in, Tate completed a takedown, but Nunes quickly got back to her feet. Nunes thwarted another takedown and kneed the champion above the chest area. The challenger unloaded with right hands that wobbled “Cupcake. Tate was kneed in the jaw and was bloodied. The “Lioness” took the back of Tate and locked in a rear naked choke to forced the tap.
