Former number one contender for the UFC Heavyweight title, "The Demolition Man" Alistair Overeem, spoke about his current status in the division, declaring he's more than ready to fight for the title, without going through a tune-up phase. According to Overeem. he's still going strong, and more than ready to "kick *ss".

Back in March, The Reem was suspended for nine month by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The Dutchman could re-apply for his license in December, with sights on facing the winner of Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez bout.

The ongoing trash-talk between Overeem and dos Santos could contribute for such match-up take place regardless of what the Brazilian does against Velasquez.

You may not need a warm up fight in your opinion, but you definitely need to prove that your rise to #1 contender was not the by product of steroid/testosterone abuse.

You failed a drug test for high amounts of T. Now you have to take a fight before getting a title shot (hopefully). Perfectly logical.

Agreed. I like Overeem, but he should probably drop the whole "most tested athlete" thing... it's lost its gravitas now that he's been caught for something.

Do you really need a warm-up fight in order to get a title shot? absolutely not. That said, you had your shot, but you blew it.

Agree with Evan that he needs a fight to prove himself.

While Overeem says he doesn't not need a fight, he may not realise he actually might.

Not too long ago he was one of the most active fighters (including MMA, K-1 and BJJ) and when he was at Golden Glory, the camp he recently left, he would spar 100% which is basically warm up fights.

I highly doubt he strikes 100% at the Blackzillians, seeing as all the top fighters there are much smaller than him (might go full on with Spong).

I'm not saying he does need a tune up fight but I would think one couldn't hurt.

Less fights before title shot = less tests before title shot

what a crok of shit blaming his doctors for the high level of T. no doctor would've given any professional athlete testosterone enhancing anything without clearly stating all affects, the reem needs to prove he can fight high level competitors without being juiced to shit
