Alistair Overeem breaks silence, says he is clean

UFC Heavyweight Alistair Overem has finally broken his silence concerning his failed pre-UFC 146 drug test and subsequent suspension by the NSAC. Speaking to Fuel TV's UFC Tonight, he states that he was not entirely sure of all the details surrounding the situation, so he waited until he was to come out with a statement. Overeem has not talked to Dana White as of yet, but he still has his eyes set on the title. The famed kickboxer addresses his recent plan to submit voluntary drug tests, and states that he will do so every 3-4 weeks to prove to the world that he is a clean fighter. He adds that he does not pay attention to the media for the most part, instead focusing on his intense training. Confident that he will be able to return in late December, Overeem hopes to step right into a Heavyweight title shot when cleared by the NSAC.

lol just rewatched the video, and just his opening statement is amusing to me, it was reported he tried to flee the press conference as soon as he could when he heard about the random drug test. Not something a clean fighter does, this guy just keeps lying, is pathetic.

Fedor's light seems to be shinning brighter and brighter.

Great Fighter, Great Guy, and Great Father. WOW! something sports are desperately missing right now. Instead we make fun and despise people like him. Then we PRAISE people who cheat and show their @$$ like Overeem, Ochocinco, Sonnen, Pac Man Jones, and etc.

    OVEREEM is a joke.

Apparently eve though I live in Scotland I am suppose to know all American Football player's and their nicknames, I sincerely.

I idiotically thought of Pacquaio, who is 100x more known, since his nickname is also Pac Man.

I just thought you forgot a comma after Pac Man and meant Jon Jones after it since he gets a lot of hate.

My bad, all us Scotsmen need more tuition in the nicknames of American Football players.

I don't think he truly understands the damage he did to his brand with the testosterone failure.

Most thought he was one something for the past 5 years. There were even rumors around as far back as 2003 when he was a 225 lb kid about him and his brother.

Now he's given all those suspicions validity. I really hope they make him fight somebody like Cain, Roy Nelson, Werdum (again), or another top tier (ish) fighter before he gets the shot.

imo overeem linched himself, one of the most suspected fighter of using and then he did, or always did.

Overeem as the ufc hw champ makes the sport look bad!

I waon't be shocked if he fails a drg test but I will be shocked if he doesn't rip through the UFC HW roster. The only guys I see giving him any trouble are JDS, Carwin, Cain and maybe one or two others. That said I think he beats them all.

The guy who's put away everybody except Roy and Shane (who he beat the crap out of for a whole fights duration) isn't going to beat the guy who's been KO'd standing by Chuck and Kharitonov?

    DOubt it.

One, K1 is not MMA. Two his win in K1 might have been the easiest road in history (only comparable is Hunts win in 99 or 2000, whenever it was). He won a close match with Spong (great win there), he then stopped Saki after he was in an absolute war with Ghita, and the same to a 60 year old Peter Aerts. He didn't fight any of the 4 top K1 fighters from the past 5 years (Schilt, Bonjasky, Hari, or Ghita). Still a great accomplishment, but he was never the best HW MMA striker in the world, let alone kickboxer.

i don't really give a crap if someones testosterone levels are 50:1, he still has to come in at 265lbs or lower and still has the same skills as a fighter, 'juicing' might help with training intensity/recovery sure, doesn't really do much once the cage door closes.

that said, you don't get busted, get suspended, ruin a blockbuster main event, take a 9 months break then come back and challenge the champion, **** that.. the problem is cain is already challenging, he beat werdum very recently and no one else deserves a #1 contender fight, maybe cormier will have finished his strikeforce contract before december?

Kind of tired of hearing about Overeem at this point. He either gets his sh*t together and comes back strong, or he doesn't. In the meantime there are much more interesting things MMA to talk about.

Not sure what it is but I still like Reem as a man and as the brilliant fighter he is.

I think he just made a huge mistake, hopefully he learns from this and comes improves himself personally and physically.

Roids or not, he is one of the best stand up fighters on the planet, never mind just MMA. His flawless technique combined with his superhuman power makes me a serious threat to anyone alive, including JDS.

Think about how much of a tear Werdum is on, he looks excellent and look at how easily Alistair handled him (Werdum landed more but Overeem won the fight by miles).

After that he wrecked Brock and stuffed his takedown attempt with ease.

Hate him for his mistake or not but you can't deny the Reem is a exceptional fighter.

You put me, you, or anyone with the drive to fight in a world class gym, with world class trainers, taking the best PED's that are available to man kind. And you will also be able to compete at the higher to highest levels in MMA.

Words right out of my mouth. The only thing I disagree with is your assertion that Werdum is on a tear. Werdum has had two great showings against decent opponents. If he wins one more against a top 5 guy then he is on a tear.

I feel like my ****ing head is going to explode reading this:

"I think he just made a huge mistake, hopefully he learns from this and comes improves himself personally and physically."

-He just made a huge mistake? So you don't think he's done anything in the time frame of transforming himself from a chinless 205 lb washout into an extra for the incredible Hulk? Am I taking crazy pills? Hows he going to improve himself physically? He was taking ****ing Testosterone!

"Roids or not, he is one of the best stand up fighters on the planet, never mind just MMA."

-Bullshit, plain and simple. He hits like a ****ing truck, and tosses people around like a ragdoll (HW MMA fighters, IE guys that throw normal humas around like they are nothing). What do you think helps that?... Oh I bet having testosterone levels of 4 men help.

"His flawless technique combined with his superhuman power makes me a serious threat to anyone alive, including JDS."

-Flawless technique? You have to be joking here. He hits hard, has a really good clinch, and has good speed for a HW while normally having decent defense. Great technique is Remy Bonjasky, Peter Aerts, and if you want to look at boxing for MMA JDS. Every one his his assets can be attributed to strength or speed advantages.

"Hate him for his mistake or not but you can't deny the Reem is a exceptional fighter."

Think his testing for elevated testosterone levels is just a mistake if you'd like, but you are most likely living in a fantasy world.

@Evan I'm saying that his mistake was juicing and by improving physically I mean work out and get in to the same shape without the testosterone.

I disagree, he is definitely one of the best stand up fighters. There hasn't been a lot of evidence for a while in MMA (Brock doesn't count for much) but his K-1 exploits prove how good he is. If you think he can take out Badr Hari, Tyrone Spong, Peter Aerts twice and Gokhan Saki without being a brilliant striker then yes you are taking crazy pills.

I meant his stand up technique is super crisp and excellent, not the some of the best of all time, which would be up there with Bonjasky and Aerts.
