Alexis Davis: ‘S— Talking’ Ronda Rousey Will Face Karma At UFC 175

When Ronda Rousey and Alexis Davis meet at UFC 175, it will mark the fourth time that ‘Rowdy’ has put her bantamweight title on the line in the UFC octagon. The historic Fourth of July weekend is bound to have plenty of fireworks, and not only in the celebratory sense. With Rousey involved there is barely a dull moment, but she seems a lot more respectful towards ‘Ally-Gator’ in the lead up to this bout.

That being said, Davis is no fan of Rousey. Even with her respectful tone regarding Davis, ‘Rowdy’ has already gotten under her next opponent’s skin. Check out what Davis said during an interview with Fox Sports:

“It’s all karma,Karma is going to come right back at you. … That’s why I’m going to win the belt. Karma is going to come back to her. There’s some boundaries you have to have,” Davis said. “But I can only imagine the pressure she feels in this situation. She’s brought it on herself, all this s*** talking, calling people out. She’s not a huge Cyborg fan. I think she has to push it every single time.”

In a surprising turn of events, it seems that Rousey’s opponent is initiating the trash talk. Davis obviously hasn’t taken a liking to Rousey’s treatment of Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino, but it’s fair to say that there’s an element of thespianism in ‘Rowdy’s’ pre-fight banter. ‘Ally-Gator’ continues:

“I think it’s got to be a little bit of both,” Davis said. “You can’t come out of the blue with that. You have to have at least some of it embedded in you. Is she totally like that? No, probably not. Get on the wrong side of her, though, and quite a few words will probably be coming out. I’m not the one jumping up and talking s***,” Davis said. “That’s not my personality. I keep trying, it just sounds stupid when it comes out. … I believe if I were a little more vocal I would have gotten the title shot already.”

Currently 16-5, Davis holds notable losses to Sarah Kaufmanx2, Shayna Baszler, Elaina Maxwell, and Tara LaRosa. On the other hand, wins over Julie Kedzie, Rosi Sexton, Liz Carmouche and Jessica Eye have Davis in good stead at 135 pounds. Currently riding a five-fight win streak, Davis says she will look at Liz Carmouche’s gameplan for inspiration:

“I think I have a stronger background than a lot of her previous opponents,” Davis said. … “There are obviously holes in her game that I can see, where I can get in position and capitalize on them. Liz Carmouche almost ended that fight by taking [Rousey’s] back. Obviously, that’s something I’m looking at.”

When it finally comes down to it, the pre-fight trashing of opponents often means little. The reality of the situation is that Davis will have to bring something new to the table, especially now that ‘Rowdy’ has more striking to offer. Do you think Davis can end the streak, or will Rousey make it 10-0?
