Top-ranked UFC Light Heavyweight, Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson, will be looking to make a title shot statement against Mauricio Rua at UFC on FOX 5, later this year. Speaking about his upcoming bout with "Shogun", Gustafsson made it clear he's not underestimating his opponent, but still promised a 2nd round KO victory. UFC on FOX 5 is currently scheduled for December 8th.

Young liones trying to get rid of the old one. But not so fast shogun is not so old. Its not because he showed signs of fatigue last time that he's done. He will come back stronger and destroy this viking guy. This guy is absolutly no championship material. Easy fight for in shape shogun

Gustaf will win... don't know about KOing Shogun though. Probably by decision. Shogun does not strike that well with guys who are bigger than him... even dating back to when he fought Cyrille Diabete in Pride and was getting smashed pretty bad til it hit the ground.

As a matter of fact, I will bet anyone on this site through pay pal that Gustafsson wins. The money can be sent to a third party that we both agree on prior to the fight to assure payout if need be.

1 out of how many guys that have been considerably taller than him? Even Vera was getting the better of him in the pure striking aspect. The point is that Shogun will not get take downs to be able to mix it up enough to throw Gustaf off of his game plan. Phil Davis couldn't even take Gustafsson down.

I doubt he gets a KO. Rua has been blasted by absolute monsters of the sport, and the only time he's been really TKO'd (not counting Coleman's dive break of his leg) was when Jones mauled him for close to 10 minutes straight.

Close. Gotta back up Hunter - the most successful prognosticator in history. The Nostradamus of LowKick. I'd say Gus FTW in rnd3 by TKO.

I hope he doesn't dance around the Octagon like he did against Thiago Silva because if he does, he will ruin the fight against Shogun. He better not be the one getting knocked out either.

I really became a big fan of Gus in the Hamill fight, a match where he tore through the veteran in the first round after The Hammer had just survived 15 minutes of Rampage.

Gustaffson is one of the best strikers in LHW easily, his punches are devastating and that is due to their technique and accuracy rather than raw power, he mixes his kicks in well with his combos and combine that with his crazy killer instinct and you have a monster in the stand up.

While his bread and butter is his striking he has some very good grappling as well. He seems very comfortable in his ground transitions which had led to quite a lot of dominant position submissions from him.

The thing which is most surprising is his wrestling - Phil Davis struggled to take down the European and after their fight Gus moved came to Alliance, beside Phil Davis. Gus already had great defensive wrestling but since training with Davis his whole camp attests to his wrestling improving massively.

Al of these things make one hell of a deadly fighter in every area.

If someone is to beat Jones this is the man but he has a super tough test in front of him, Shogun Rua.

I'm not going to bother betting on that one. I want shogun to win but he probably won't. I think he would better much better at 185 in my opinion. If Alexander wins this fight he should totally get a title shot. No question about that.

idk what fight you'll be watching as long as gustafson stays away and strikes on the outside shogun will gas...AS ALWAYS and he'll get beat either UD or TKO like jones did to him and honestly he wasn't even that hurt when he fell from JJ strikes he was just tired....his cardio is crap

i don't know man, alex defeated a soon to retire hamill, a coming back from drug use t. silva, in my book this doesn't really prove anything. Sure he has the accurate and interesting striking, but he never looked as promising as the way J.Jones did during his early bouts.

That being said I'd like to see shogun get a decisive win over alex leading to another title shot.

Well, well. Let's see if that little prediction will come true, if not, I guess he is going to have to humiliate himself by getting his ass kicked.

It's great to have confidence but a big mistake is "promising" anything other than you will give it 110% is just a bad idea.
