Alexander Gustafsson looking for a stand-up battle with Shogun Rua
Posted on November 13, 2012, 06:39 PM by Anton GurevichFew weeks after Georges St. Pierre and Carlos Condit settle the score inside the Octagon, Alexander Gustafsson will be looking to make another step towards the UFC Light Heavyweight title shot, this time facing Mauricio Rua at UFC on FOX. For Gustafsson, this will be eighth fight inside the Octagon. He's currently 6-1 in the UFC, enjoying a five-fight win streak.
Gustafsson is ranked strong in the Light Heavyweight rankings, with several experts and websites putting "The Mauler" in their Top 5 lists. Gustafsson's only loss is to Phil Davis, who will be facing Forrest Griffin at UFC 155. If Davis wins against Griffin, there's a good chance that he will find himself facing Alexander Gustafsson for the second time, in what would be a very interesting test for the Swede.

Stand up with Shogun?? You mad son??
Shogun won't stand with a guy with a reach advantage. He will take Gustafsson down at the first opportunity and use the gnp he has used to win most of his fights.
He has more tecnical stand up than Shogun, moves a lot in and out and changes angles very effectivly, Shogun has to fight like he did against Machida if he wants to win this one, coming forward, using leg kicks and being agressive as bone cancer.
Shogun's reach 76"
Gustaffson's reach 76-1/2 "
Long reach, use some tight footwork and maybe a strong thai clinch for when shogun gets close? Now that's how you beat Shogun.
If he can't get passed Rua in every aspect of MMA, he won't be ready for Jones any time soon.
He needs to prove he can beat Rua standing up if he wants a title shot.
He needs to cut to 185, talk shite, lose twice to the champ and he should be in line for a shot.
Comment of the year
Gustaffson will retire Slowbum.
I think Gustafsson will win but that is just a dumb comment.
The only bum around is you, and I am being nice. The guy is a legend, have some respect, little punk!
Shogun is a warrior and I think it will be a great fight however I see Gustafsson winning a clear decision.
