Abel Trujillo Injured, Gray Maynard Steps Up To Face Ross Pearson At UFC Fight Night 47

Lightweight slugger Abel Trujillo has been forced out of his upcoming clash with British brawler Ross Pearson next week, at UFC Fight Night 47 after suffering an undisclosed injury.

UFC Fight Night 47 takes place on August 16 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. The main event features a light-heavyweight battle as TUF 8 winner Ryan Bader and Strikeforce vet. Ovince St. Preux are set to go head-to-head in an attempt to climb up the 205 pound ladder.

The event is the UFC’s first to take place in Maine. The card will be available to view on Fox Sports 1 as well as UFC Fight Pass.

Pearson vs. Trujillo was expected to feature as the nights co-main event but it became in jeopardy when “Killa’s” injury was discovered. However, fortunately for the UFC, former lightweight title contender Gray Maynard has stepped up to the task and will now meet “The Real Deal” in the co-headliner.

Maynard was originally booked to face Fabricio Camoes but he decided to pull out of his fight with the Brazilian for a chance to meet Pearson. Camoes has subsequently been removed from the bout.

Pearson was looking to get back in the win column following his horrendous match against Diego Sanchez where “The Nightmare” was awarded the win after a terrible judging decision. Prior to that the Brit was on a three-fight unbeaten streak at lightweight after stopping George Sotiropoulos and Ryan Couture before his NC with Melvin Guillard.

Maynard makes his return to the Octagon after eight months out following his TKO loss to Nate Diaz at the TUF 18 Dinale. “The Bully’s” loss to Diaz was his second straight TKO loss after getting stopped by T.J. Grant at UFC 160. His only win in the last three and a half years came as a split-decision over Clay Guida. Overall, he’s 1-3-1in his last five fights.

With the mix-up, UFC Fight Night 47 now looks as followed:
