Team Golden Glory head coach Martijn De Jong announced via his Twitter account that Marloes Coenen, Jon Olav Einemo and Valentijn Overeem were all released from their contracts with ZUFFA.

Despite the fact that all three fighters are coming off losses in their most recent bouts, it still looks like there's much more to the story.

Marloes Coenen is widely considered as one of the top Female Pound-for-Pound fighters in the world, while Jon Olav Einemo won Fight of the Night award after his war with "Pee-Wee" Dave Herman. Valentijn Overeem is 1-1 in Strikeforce, with victory over Xtreme Couture's Ray Sefo and a TKO loss to Chad Griggs.

Only one week ago, Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem was released from his contract, after a disagreement with ZUFFA over a date of his Strikeforce Heavyweight GP semi-final bout with Antonio Silva.

    Thats strange,must have something to do with Overeem because Jon Olav Einemo put on a great performance his last fight even though he lost and the same can be said for Marloes Coenen and she was champ ive never heard of a a former Champ who just lost there belt being cut

    Valentijn I can understand, but Coenen, and Einemo does not make any sense at all from the normal way Zuffa deals with fighters. There is def some behind the scene stuff here, It could be that Dana is super pissed at team Golden Glory, or maybe it has something to do with Golden Glory holding there own events, I hope we get more answers, watch out Sergei you may be next.

    Yeah right Dana, you can't just treat fighters like that i mean they probably got mad about Overeem and decided to punish the whole golden glory team, this sucks real bad man

    I'd say Zuffa got pissed off at how Overeem stood up to them and now they're setting an example by not only punishing him but also his fight team..

    Honestly a union would be stupid, especially for an individual sport like MMA. Anderson Silva would be making the same kind of money as a newcomer. Plus these are fighters we're talking about. They chose to do this for a living, its not like they're helping out the community by fighting for a living. They aren't police officers or farmers. If they can't make it as a fighter, tough luck. They can find a job like most of us.

    That is really messed up in so many levels, you know that Scott Coker had nothing to do with this, this is more likely something that Dana did, it is the way he acts, I still remember when people thought that it was a good thing Zuffa was the owner of Strikeforce, they are slaving the fighters at will now...

    Also you can consider this the death of women´s MMA, Dana has being claiming that there is not enough fighter and then they cut one of the best ones...

What a ****ing idiot why the **** would you release JOE after he put on a great fight and marloes coenen! she is a former world champ who lost her belt in a close match until she got subbed. If hes that angry with overeem he needs to take it out on his wife in bed and not with the rest of team golden glory

    Guys, smell the flowers, Strikefore is shutting down... A wrote a article a couple of weeks ago "The nail in the Coffin" were I said that Overeem "cut" from the tournament only meant Strikeforce was closing...

    - Nick Diaz (IMO the better fighter in SF) signed with the UFC;

    - UFC doesnt want Womens fighting so they didnt signed with Cyborg and now they cut Coenen;

    - They released Overeem after they cutted him from the tournament;

    - Valentjin isnt UFC material so he got the cut as well;

    - Fedor lost again and now is draw power is even smaller;

    - Einemo, although in fight of the Night, lost to a much smaller fighter and didnt displayed the ground game that people thought he could;

    - Dan Henderson is eying a UFC contract even thou he said that he wanted to defend his belt, meaning he knows SF is no more.

    The symptoms only leads to one conclusion: UFC will retain the fighters that they think are worth and they will slowly and systematically cut the rest...

    Einemo is -undoubtedly- good enough to cut it in the UFC in that mediocre HW division. These cuts are motivated by a combination of the dismantling of Strikeforce, as you mentioned, but with some obvious beef between GG and Zuffa.

    Agreed on most points, but as of yesterday, Cyborg is close to inking a new deal with SF, so the Coenen departure may be more gym related than gender.

    Did anyone really think this would be any different than when Zuffa bought Pride FC ? They said everything would be business as usual, just with new owners. It won't be long before Showtime opts out of the deal with Strikeforce since they won't be able to put on a decent show.

    Strikeforce was dead the minute Dana White got his hands on it....just like Pride

    The Japanese killed Pride, not Zuffa. Learn your facts man, I'm so tired of people blaming the UFC brass for the demise of Pride, it's utter nonsense. Do you think they wouldn't have liked to continue to fill arenas in Japan ten times a year with 40+thousand people?? Ridiculous. Think what you will of Dana White and the Fertittas but you can't say anything about them being bad businessmen. The Japanese killed Pride with corruption and organised crime.

    What you stated is Zuffa's version of events. Yes , everyone knew of the Mob issues surrounding Pride. That was influence and control they had over the owners of Pride. Can you elaborate on how that influence and control was transfered to Zuffa after the sale?

    I don't dislike Dana White or the Fertitas. They are obviously very good businessmen. Dana White has done great things to advance the sport.

    The fighters and fans have both benefited from his involvement.

    However , it is quite clear that Zuffa wants a monopoly on MMA.

    Good business decision ,but bad for fans and fighters.

    Again, the most bare-bones arguement i can make against what you're saying is if I only address one thing that is wrong with your theory: Please explain to me how it is a good business move for Zuffa to NOT hold ten 40+thousand attended arena shows in Japan? It's not like they filled the void with UFC shows in Japan, there are just that many fewer fights a year. If they could have kept selling hundreds of thousands of tickets a year in Japan, I'm pretty sure they would have ;)

    The version of the events that most people have come to understand about the demise of Pride isn't the Zuffa version, it's the pieced together version based on stories from fighters and managers, former employees, the book that was published in Japan last year, all kinds of stuff. There are other aspects too completely outside of the purchase, things that happened before Zuffa wrote the cheque. Do you know about Red Devil Fight Club breaking away from Russian Top Team in order to skirt contract responsibilities so Fedor could fight on the Inoki Bombaya! card? Or how and why Pride lost their broadcasting deal in Japan and couldn't get television coverage? Again, like i said, learn the facts.

    Veryyyy suspicious. That coach Mao Zedong must be up to no good... surely there's no reason for them all to be cut, and it's more than coincidence that they're all Golden Glory fighters with the same coach.

    This is exactly why I can't stand this man....Dana white has been a dictator for the longest and like I said many times already, MMA will be a lot better once Dana retires, which is probably not going to happen anytime soon. Wow... I feel really bad for Scott Coker because he has become nothing but a UFC - ZUFFA puppet.

    I will admit they are not my main draw either but I enjoy any real fight. If you don't watch MMA for skills like she clearly has then what do you watch for? Someone who beats their chest? Someone with a deep voice? In my opinion womens MMA is still MMA just of a lower teir. Do you not like watching amature MMA as well? I love watching fights weather it's a 5 year old or a 50 year old as long as they are decently good. MMA is MMA no matter who does it and if they are good then what difference does it make if they are female or male, child or grandparent? Are you an MMA fan or just a MAN fan?

    By the way I know Women will never compete with men of equal training and experience just like a Leopard will never compete with a Tiger of equal training and experience in a fight but both fight amazing and both are interesting to watch regardless of a Tigers strength since it's really the mastery of Cats in general that is the most fantastic part. Thats why you get Tiger fans who look down on Lion or Leopard fans as inferior fans because they don't have their eyes set on what matters and that is they all kick as*. I don't think the lack of interest of womens MMA is associated with the fans so much as the lack of interest in women to take up MMA.

    It doesn't make any sense cutting Einemo and Coenen, but to cut all these GG fighters at the same time including Overeem proves that the GG mangement wanting to be paid directly rumour must be true. It just sucks that the fighters have to suffer for being managed poorly.
