never been a diego fan but i gotta say like his attatude no excuses no bs just accecpt it and move on plus taking the whole yes cartwheel in stride he is kinda wining me over. i do belive that the 170 diego and the 155 diego are complete diffrent animals
I fail to understand why Diego has gone back to 170. It makes no sense. I think Diego has a legitimate shot at the 155 title; in time. He needs to pack on some muscle and tighten up his wrestling, but he's got a real shot at it (down there), but no real chance @ 170.
Diego is a terrific fighter and has improved dramatically over the last two years; his stand-up in particular. He's a like a little wind-up pit bull. You wind'em up, put him down on the ground and just watch him go. His fight with Clay Guida was outstanding; one of the best fights I"ve ever seen. Those two kicked the crap out of one another. Diego's boxing in that fight was outstanding, that kick to CG's head was beautiful, something we'd never really seen from him before...it was just a great fight.
Even Diego's loss to BJ was great. No one can say that Diego didn't give it his all, didn't try or showed up unprepared for Penn; surely, he met all expectations, he simply ran up against a better fighter and was crushed. He should not take that loss, one to a phenomenal fighter who was in phenomenal shape, as his exit notice out of 155; I just think it's short-sighted.
I applauded Diego's move down to 155 as a much better fit for his frame and I still believe that. As great a fighter as Diego is, he's really a middle of the pack fighter @ 170. And his only solution for solving that problem, is the same solution @ 155 - get bigger and become a better wrestler. I believe that task is more easily accomplished and maintained @ 155, not 170.
He's a great fighter, a tough guy and one with a heck of a lot of potential, I just hope he doesn't waste it chasing a dream in a division that he's too small for.
