Wanderlei Silva on Chael Sonnen: Only p**** say things behind your back

MMA legend Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva had a good choice of words for the current number one contender for the UFC Middleweight title, Chael Sonnen. Silva criticized Sonnen for talking "behind his back", claiming that the self-proclaimed people's champion wouldn't be as brave in a face to face situation.
"I have nothing to say to him. I won’t give him that kinda audience. I don’t care about what he says, I’m not interested. If he wants to say those things looking me in the eye, come here. But that way, saying things when we’re distant, he’s an ass face. Only pussies say things at your back" - TATAME
Wanderlei Silva will return to action on June 23rd, facing Vitor Belfort in the main event of UFC 147 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This will be Silva's eighth fight inside the Octagon.

Wandy doesn't use it much but he has very good BJJ. He also has better stand up than Sonnen. Sonnen sucks against BJJ. All Wandy has to do is train nothing but BJJ for a couple of months and that fight is his. Wandy via sub.
Or maybe run toward chael from the ring bell , get the thai clinch and throw knees like he did to cung fu lee

With your logic, Sonnen can just train wrestling and Sub defense for a couple months and Sonnen via Decision/KO/TKO......

@DaddyLongStrokes. You misunderstand. Silva already has good BJJ. I am saying that his striking is so superior to Sonnen's that he doesn't even have to worry about it. All he has to do is focus on something he already knows to take advantage of Sonnen's weakest point. Sonnen on the other hand is so bad at sub defense that for him to just work on that for a few months would be pointless. He needs years to close that hole in his game. Of his 10 losses, all but three are submissions.
@ChokePeople Wandy chooses to swing haymakers all day, hes a brawler. Wandy's striking is good but he chooses to swing recklessly so he wouldnt pick Sonnen apart.
People plateau, he could get a bit better but if that were the case Sonnen can always choose to fight less recklessly while in top position and not get subbed.
It isnt that Sonnen has bad sub defense, its that he is so reckless.....its just like how Wandy still has great striking, he just chooses to fight recklessly rather than technically. Wandy gets caught all the time standing up, it doesnt necessarily make him a bad striker, he just is reckless. Same as Sonnen
Yeah, you make some good points there. It is really too bad that Wandy chooses to fight that way most of the time. He looked great in the Bisping fight when he knew he needed a win and fought a technical fight. That Wandy would destroy Sonnen. I do think Sonnen has poor sub defense though. Every time he fights a guy with good BJJ he loses.
Even technical Wandy would get taken down.
Wandy wouldnt be able to pick Sonnen apart, nobody but Anderson Silva can.
Heres why: Sonnen's wrestling is too good for him to be outstruck by a wide margin because his opponents are too worried about defending takedowns. And when Sonnen is taking some heat he goes to a takedown. You cant be too technical when the guy is rushing you and is smothering you and has great wrestling as his trump card.
Bisping had the gameplan of pushing Sonnen against the cage so that he would not have to be worried about Sonnen taking him down.
and even then all Bisping could do was hold him there and do nothing with it.

If this was settled as a street fight Wandy would take home his head via soccer kick, the only reason sonnen is doing so damn well is because the UFC rules are perfect for wrestlers. Go watch some Pride videos, see how Wandy rolls, hell stick em in a cage together and offer Sonnen Pride rules, see wether he takes the fight or not...i have a feeling he would back the **** up

If there was knees to the head Sonnen would be able to do it on the ground while on top. Hell, there would be a better finishing rate from Wrestlers since when they shoot doubles its already legal for people to throw a knee to try to catch them, all this would do is work against the bad wrestlers who dont set up their takedowns.
Wrestlers who can use knees on a downed opponent would begin to wreck fighters. The poor wrestlers would get stuffed and kicked in the face for their troubles.

I think Pride rules are not relevant to what would happen in a street fight. In his Hayday Wandi would have won. Today...he would lose.
I cant remember saying anything about knees to down oppenents....however if you where talking about the pride rules as i was i believe there was a yellow card system....thats what i meant with pride rules fighting......besides sonnen does nothing on top, little pussy elbows with his pillow hands, he doesnt try and make space or anything he is content with little digs....now a man to watch on the ground is munoz....he is dangerous throws bombs not pillows.

Actually, he sat there with a slight grin on his face, and said "sure, sure" or "yeah sure" to everything Wanderlei said. It's called sarcasm, and it's recognized by most intelligent people as a form of mockery. He most certainly did not apologize for anything.

Chael does talk some shite, and I have no problem with Wanderlei taking it personally, but being respectful is not a requirement for MMA.
Pissing-off your opponent and making them fight angry is a strategy and it does some times work. Other times, well we all saw what Hendo did to Bisping, GSP to BJ, ect.

Oh yeah, and far as "going behind your back"... I saw an old clip where Chael and Wandy are driving somewhere Sonnen starts ripping on him about his tattoo's, asking if his daughter and wife have the some.
Wandy has been disrespectful as well at times... pushing Rampage, giving mean staredowns trying to frighten his opponent etc.
To be fair though Wandy did back his stuff up 99% of the time and I have absolutely no problem with how he acted but he shouldn't act like he is an angel either.

If you are a fighter looking for a title shot and someone keeps ducking you and refusing to fight then you have to expect insults.

Chael is funny but people shouldn't take him too serious - for example he claimed that Silva ran scared of Okami for years after their first match and look what happened in the second time.
Irrespective of the submission, it would be hard for silva to think of it as a great win when he goes back to his dressing room with banged up ribs and bruises all over his body especially when you compare his performances against Forrest Griffin. If that Anderson Silva turns up next time then Chael will be in alot of trouble.

Im not so sure that Wandy has better stand up anymore because he doesnt have a chin anymore and the last time seen Chael dropped AS which is impressive to me and I dont even like the guy. I dont really think Wandy wants any part of Chael, maybe outside the cage. I hear everyone complaining about wrestlers but it is called MMA MIxed Martial Arts. If the opponents dont like being taken down and beat up on for 3 rounds then they should learn some takedown defense and wrestling of their own. Because if you like Chael or not wrestling got him a title shot and now a second one so why would he change his game that is making him successful. I like all aspects of MMA if you only want to see fights on the feet then go watch boxing.
