Well, now it looks like the Top UFC Middleweight contender Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort switched his interest on no other than the IBA Heavyweight Champion James "Lights Out" Toney. Belfort addressed the UFC President Dana White through his Twitter, asking him to allow the fight against James Toney. Belfort is currently 19-8 in his MMA career, and is expected to square off against the "Thunder" Yushin Okami at UFC 122 in Germany.

Update:

Speaking via FightHype.com, James Toney stated he would be more than happy to square off agianst Belfort under Boxing rules:

“Tell Vitor Belfort let’s make it happen. I like that because he ain’t no scared little bitch. He wants to come to my world and I’m more than willing to welcome him into my world.”

Well he would have a better chance than many in the UFC but I feel it will be surprising for him when he realizes that Toney is not as awkward as he looks when in boxing. I don't think it would be smart for Vitor to step in to that ring but I would like to see it.

makes sense, if some one in MMA would step into Boxing it should be Vitor Belfort. he has the best boxing( hands ) in MMA.

dunno i might enjoy seeing JDS give it a go too... but hes too slow i think, so vitor is a good 2nd choice id actually like to see james toney in the ufc 1 more fight against a toooootal striker, who will not attempt nothing, make it a muay thai vs boxing type of fight... would be awesome

I saw the Couture fight live, and could have written the script for it, blow by blow. A fight with a standing Belfort would be far more entertaining, but I do not see it happening.

How can you say that to him when he usually just tries to bring humor while you write 4 page essays trying to be WISE.

And tell your girlfriend below to quit lying about her cup size to go grow a pair.

    @ UrHype

Wow, man - you really know nothing of what you speak, do you? What an ass you make yourself out to be.

First and for the record - I call JPG23 - The Wise...because that is my nickname for him....and has been for a number of weeks, now...and as a "follower" and as a "fan" ...and because I think JPG23 "is" wise.

As a general rule, I find that no matter what JPG23 posts, I agree with it. Perhaps, if you go back and read my comment as one online friend commenting to another about their post, you might see it as such and subsequently, "figure it out".

And for the record, JPG is (also) a "follower" of mine. And if you question that, then you are more then free to ask him... (right here) on this thread.

Moving on - my, my...don't you follow my work, all cracking off about my "essays". I must confess on the other hand, that I have no idea who you are; none. I've never read a thing you've posted in your entire troglodytic life (on this site). Truly you are the James Toney of this lowkick. Willfully ignorant of any facts, just leaping in on blind faith that you know what you're talking about and are justified in doing, so.

I can see you now - you're beat up 85 Ford Pick-up, broken tail light and all...sitting at a corner gas station, looking at the street walkers...trying to figure out which one has a lower probability of giving you herpes simplex 2, all while you post to lowkick via your cell phone and one "free" hand, trying to set the record straight; correcting every little infraction, like some unwanted bucktoothed hall monitor, that no one can stand. Hype - do sense a big ### off in all this?

Concluding - Urine Hype, I encourage you to continue reading my essays as I believe they are enlightening your mind. Perhaps, some day (in the distant future), I will read some of your dreary drivel.

Continue forth in your earnest and incorruptible vigilance,

    Wing Chun

sorrty if I misunderstood that, I dont have 2 weeks to read your long winded replies or maybe, maybe I would have known. If you keep typing like that to him, you'll have this happen again Im sure.

Thank you for your apology. I accept it and in the spirit in which it is given.

"If I keep typing like that" - Then I will deal with it, again and in the same manner in which I have dealt with it, here.

Concluding - I encourage you to continue reading my work and if you need clarification before you comment on it, please feel free to ask.

Your continuing earnest and incorruptible vigilance is a much valued thing, grasshopper.

if he does go and fight Toney in boxing i hope he doesnt take the same aproach to it as Toney took to MMA thinkin he can just walk in2 the sport and be great at it...if he is serious about this he should take a yr out of MMA and get himself a high class boxing trainer like Freddie Roach

i would want to see this. but who else has better hands? I'd argue maybe Junior Dos Santos, but Belfort's speed, precision and power make him very tough for a boxer

First off, if Belfort wants to fight him this bad, why is he mentioning this 6 rounds nonsense? If you want to fight the man in his sport follow protocol and go 10 rounds. We already know Toney would accept it at 6 and would say he only needs 1 but NO special conditions. Toney followed the UFC protocol let Belfort do the same.

I was never a major fan of Toney and that's going back to when he first appeared in boxing. The guy grates the hell out of me and I can only take his marble-mouth stammering in increments. That said, Toney would destroy Belfort. Toney to this day is one of the best boxers out there . Those are the facts.

I wouldn't expect Dana to go along with this for a few reasons. Dana is a calculating guy. He already came out ahead with the Coutuer vs Toney fight. Afterwards Toney issued a challeng for Randy to come into boxing. If Belfort is allowed, Toney and others would say, Randy is a coward, Randy knows he would be destroyed ect ( hell, Randy has already said just that), so they sent in Belfort instead.

This would be happening in a boxing ring removed from the UFC empire. Dana and the Zuffa boys would make nothing on it , just as there were no boxing promoters making money on the Couture vs Toney fight. We all no the UFC will NEVER share an event with anyone. They guard their name brand with everything.

This is all nothing more than idle debate. This fight would never happen.

Keeping with the axiom, it's not the fights...it's the fight business, this would make no sense for the UFC, as a business proposition.

Belfort is under contract and I think DW said it best after the Toney fight...hopefully this puts a nail in that debate or something to that effect, I believe. I don't believe that DW would have any interest in resurrecting this dead horse; the point is made, move on.

I don't see how the UFC would be interested in having one of it's premier fighters and a potential champ, wondering off the farm (only) to end up in a glue factory, in another county (so to speak). This is a lose, lose situation for the UFC, one not likely to make them any money or win them any new fans and all with the serious probability of leaving one of their star fighter's with their head on a canvas in Vegas - but not under the UFC's banner; not going to happen.

This is just a bad idea - one from a truly bored and talented, champ in waiting.

Has anyone even seen Tooney the moron box in the past 2 years? anyone? I think everyone is giving bigmouth way tooo much credit ,just like with Randy. Vitor could knock Tooney TFO with 4 ounce gloves and his speed.

Toney would destroy Belfort in a boxing match. Plus isn't Belforts weight around 200 pounds before he cuts down to 185? How could he possibly bulk up enough to compete against James Toney? Assuming Dana White lets Belfort fight in Boxing, which is very unlikely! I could never imagine Dana White saying sure Vitor go for it! I could see him doing a cross promotion, which would also not happen considering boxing would give any and neither would the UFC, so I think it would be a stale mate in negoiations, and it would never happen, but then again you never know. Anything could happen. We've seen Brock go from the WWE to the UFC, and all sorts of other stuff so you never know.
