Video: Jon Jones KO's sparring partner
Posted on April 19, 2012, 01:34 PM by Anton GurevichIn this video, apparently from not so long ago, reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon "Bones" Jones knocks out a training partner during sparring session at Jackson's MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While there's no doubt about Jon Jones' qualities as a striker, it seems like many fans would question the fact that "Bones" didn't check on his training partner, and obeyed Greg Jackson's command to finish the round.
What do you think, LowKick'ers? Do you think this video proves there's some truth behind Rashad Evans' comments about Jon Jones being "fake" and "arrogant"? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

He went to kneel right next to him while the guy was trying to recover, but Jackson made him finish the round(s) like a good trainer should do.
this might be from some time ago, Jones is more built, and defined now.
The guy took a dive. They wanted to make it seem like Jon actually has KO power.
Holy shit, Shaggy Rogers got dreads and is working out with Jones?? The mystery thang must not have worked out.
good for jon working with glass jaw bums will really help him for saturday.
On a more important/serious note tho why wasn't he wearing head gear? He's sparring with a world champ and clearly going fairly hard with the contact that's just a basic safety precaution and could have saved him a concussion there.
How can you tell how hard these guys were going from a 5 second clip of sparring; from a bad angle to top it off?
If they were going heavy, they would have had the gear on. Believe that.
The next guy to come in has the gear on so he can take a beating, not give one. The first guy was probably warming the champ up, show him some movement and maybe touch him with some light shots and mix it up z little.
Valid point, you'd just think that Jones' control would be good enough that if he were going hard enough to KO someone both guys in there would be aware of it but possibly not the case for sure.
Bones have him a hard shot, but the guy was moving toward the punch when he got rocked. I don't think Bones meant for it to have such bad intentions.
Agreed but I still stand by my statement that he should have been wearing head gear even if my logic to get there might not have panned out lol
@51jd- You are right for sure, and I get your point; this clip is a prime example of why the protective gear should always be worn. Because anything can happen in there. Even if you are trying to be careful.
this guy, has dreadlocks..i mean.. cmon....
why would you ever post a video of you knocking out your sparring partner holy shit what a douche move
Well - Rashad also has a glass jaw.
well....plexi glass maybe, a lil more flexible. trick is catching him, but yea, if you do...evans may wabble

How stoned are you right now?
all i can hear is something about how hard it is to bargle nargle zous with all the bong water in my mouth....
Cowboy Cerrone does it and it's funny sht and he proves he's a beast.
Jones does it and goes over to him but is made to finish his sparring and he's a douche.
Haters gonna hate
And then you get weak'd for calling it out.
#hatehatehate
A lot of people tend to pick things out of life to back up what is already in their head.
For example, the first thing Jones did was go and check on how the guy was doing and then got told to get up and get back to training.
So how do the words fake and arrogant find their way into this story?
Agree, I am kinda hoping he loses but this vid did not show anything but good sportsmanship and obeying instructions from guys he believes helped carry him to the belt. Considering the circumstances Jackson may have let him check on his sparring buddy since it probably is not a common occurance and wouldn't waste much time.
I agree with Evil,...uh Mr. Grimace...uh anyway. Any champ will be unable to find a sparing partner that is better. He won't likely find anyone in the top ten to spar with ergo you would expect to see KO's from time to time. Why weren't they wearing headgear. If this was recent and Jones gets cut that would be very bad.
It looked like it was supposed to be some light sparring and the guy just got accidentally hit a little harder than Bones meant to hit him.
The guy behind him had headgear on when he got into the cage; he was supposed to be the one taking the hard shots.
Thats probably why Bones rushed in to check on the guy, because he wasn't looking to hurt him.
WTF is that... Bones should be sparring with MMA talent, not with that white hippie... Just like GSP.. Canadian champ travels to train with the best out their... Or like my boy Cain, he trains with AKA friend Daniel Cormier... Also War Rashad...
Since when did Greg Jackson bring ''Jesus'' Look-a-like in for sparring partners
Tough situation here. Personally, yeah I was a little taken aback that he wasn't more compassionate. However, I'm not a fighter so I don't know the rules of engagement in sparring. The other thing is, I've noticed fighters often follow the commands of their coaches with a soldier-like intensity (Nick Diaz comes to mind), and Jones was clearly ordered to move on. The guy lost the attention of Jones, but got the attention of 2 other coaches that looked after him... so while it looks bad to some of us, I guess this is just the way it works.
"Not so long ago" it's from 2009!
Greg Jackson is a douchebag, and has turned Jon Jones into one as well. I think Jon is still really impressionable, and probably has good intentions at heart. Jackson's corrupting him.. "Go check on him earn yourself some fans" - total douche.
this is a dumb post!
he checks the guy then gets told to carry on!
Bumfight! Did that homeless guy get any money?
Yeah its old... Jon uses Everlast Sparring gloves nowadays
