UFC on Versus 4: Marquardt vs. Story Conference Call Highlights
Posted on June 14, 2011, 02:37 PM by Joey SantosusUFC on Versus 4 is set to take place next Sunday on June 26th from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The card will be headlined by rising Welterweight contender Rick "The Horror" Story and division newcomer Nate "The Great" Marquardt, while Heavyweight strikers Pat Barry and Chieck Kongo go head to head in the co-main event. Also featured will be Matt Brown squaring off with John Howard and TUF 10 alum Matt Mitrione taking on Christian Morecraft.
Below are highlights from today's Media Conference Call, which included headliners Rick Story and Nate Marquardt (via MMAMania.com):
Nate Marquardt
• My weight right now is very good. I'm really not worried about the weight cut. It's something I've done in the past and this time I actually have a dietitian helping me out as well. The weight cut is not serious for me.
• I changed a few things in the diet and a little bit more in the practice as well and they were both positive changes for me and like I said, it ended up making me walk around lighter and I felt a lot better. I felt like I had the stamina that I had when I was 20 years old. I haven't lost any strength, my power's went up and my speed has went up. I feel great.
• This is a permanent division move. A lot of people were asking about a fight with Bisping but I'm not going to back up. My cardio is excellent and I can train 100% every day. I just feel like an animal so I see this as a permanent move.
Rick Story
• I've fought against strong opponents in the past, really strong big guys. I don't really know what to expect. I know Nate was a really strong middleweight fighter so I'm sure he'll be strong at welterweight.
• There was no hesitation at all in taking this fight. The challenge is sticking with an intense training regimen and staying away from injury. At the same time, it's awesome jumping right back into training camp when you're in great shape and get ready for another fight.
• I think a win would put me up there. It would open some people's eyes and maybe even put me in line for a title shot.

who is Anthony Johnson going to fight?
Johnson vs Ellenberger would be pretty sick
nik lentz should be on main card
Lentz fight- another great one. This guy is overlooked. Great card overall.
Naw Lentz aint overlooked he is not all that good...He'll get mauled by good LW's trust me, I don't get what you see in him besides his record....
we'll see
Ya Lentz is great but Oliviera is pretty sick too....gonna b a great fight
lentz is a ****ing sleeping pill why the hell you want him on the main card
cos he wins. and a win over da bronx deserves to be on the main card. although i am happy w how the main card is currently set up
Story continues to impress me, and I think he will give Nate all he can handle. Could be an upset in the making here. I love his attitude, especially since he just fought a tough fight against Alves.
Story going to continue wrecking the WW division all the way to a title shot
Gotta disagree with you here HunterB, Story did not impress me at all when he fought Alves. He had minimal success when coming to the takedown/wrestling aspect of the fight, especially in the third round.
Hathaway was able to smother him for three rounds. Not to mention he had so-so performances against Lennox and Osipczak.
He's going to get smashed by the elite of the division in Koscheck, Fitch, Penn, Shields, Johnson, Marquardt, etc.
Alves is top comp dude what are u talking about??
Yes, and Story struggled significantly to get the fight to the ground.
How do you think he'll fair against the elite WRESTLERS in the division?
no way son!
agree 100% i dont think Nate can handle the pressure that story brings and he will do him worst than alves
any strong grappler with slightly better standup will neutralize him.
I think Story will win this fight by unanimous decision, Nate seems to have trouble with good wrestlers, I don't really think this is the best move for him considering that top fighters at 170 are really good wrestlers, but maybe he'll prove me wrong and end up beating top guys in the division, I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Fu*k em up Nate
Cool, it sounds as if Nate has reinvented himself. This card on Versus is very good--I am interested in the whole card.
Each fight has a compelling quality--I really gotta hand it to Joe Silva--the man's a master.
I should point out the apparent moral of Nate Marquardt's enthusiasm at moving down to WW.
Big muscles look good, but an overabundance of muscle is not always good for atheticism and especially stamina. Muscles eat huge chunks of oxygen and its substitute when that runs out, lactic acid. Also, I have been in the weight room with guys who look like Mr. Universe, but have the actual strength of.....er...Mr. Rogers. Well, maybe not that bad--but I have consistently seen that big muscle guys are not as strong as the look, and tire out fast...
They also look into the mirror too much, but that is another story.
