UFC on FX 2: Martin Kampmann submits Thiago Alves in Round 3

Octagon veteran Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann delivered one of the greatest comebacks in UFC history, with a third round submission victory over Thiago Alves in the main event of UFC on FX 2.

The fight opened with Thiago Alves constantly pressuring Kampmann with strikes, looking to get "The Pitbull" out, just like he promised in the build-up. Kampmann was looking to close the striking distance from Alves for a clinch-knees combination at the fence. As the fight continued, Alves' gameplan showed its results on Martin Kampmann's face, who was bleeding from his nose and the cut under the right eye.

However, the things were about to change in Round 3.

Kampmann was badly hurt after a perfect striking combination from Thiago Alves, when instead of going "for the kill" the Brazilian decided to execute a double-leg takedown. Kampmann quickly caught Alves' neck, and rolled over for a super-tight Guilloitine from the mount. The Pitbull desperately tried to find a way out of the choke, but then finally tapped out at 4:12 minute mark of Round 3.

The Dane’s finish was without a doubt one of the most dramatic moments in UFC history. Alves was close to getting the finish, and paid the price of trying to overplay his opponent, and perhaps his luck.

Martin Kampmann improves his MMA record to 19-5, currently enjoying a three fight winning streak. Jake Ellenberger could be next in line for the Dane, who gets closer and closer to getting himself back in the mix for a shot at the UFC Welterweight title.

McCall got screwed. No way he lost. He either won or it was a draw, and make the sudden death round. Where McCall likely would have won.

Kamp's on a 2 fight winning streak... I understand the urge to call out Condit, but Hell, if anybody deserves another shot at Condit, it's Elenberger... And, by the way, McCall was friggin' ROBBED!

ya, alves had it, and stuck his neck out, when he should have boxed the last 40 seconds. i thought kampmann by decision before, but never saw that comeback coming.

on the flyweight. i saw it mighty mouse by outpointing in the first 2 rounds, first round closer , almost either way, second def demetrious, third mcall...but for sure, a close one.

Kampmann looked crisp for the first round but after feeling Alves power it seemed like he got gun shy. he looked out of place and not in his groove. Alves stand up is awesome ,his short inside boxing skills are second to none. To bad for Alves loosing this fight , he fought very well and looked strong. MMA has so many game changers you never know who will truly come out on top untill the final bell and a hand is raised.

I agree , Kampmann looked like he didnt want to be in there, I think the power of Alves hurt him and after that tried to play it safe. He ate a lot of counter shots which im not used to seeing happen to Kampmann ethier.

I really dont see Kampman having much for the contenders today. He looked so slow to me, Alves was much faster if that says much.

Hello, I went through all your comments an I have the impression you are basically saying that kampmann won in the LAST SECONDS of the fight. Wasn't it a 5 round fight? thanks for clarifying this.

Kampmann must be celebrating big time....

He was out on his feet...

Alves must be depressed big time after that huge loss
