In one of the most entertaining bouts this year, Ben Henderson secured a shot at Frankie Edgar's UFC Lightweight title with an impressive performance against Clay Guida in the co-main event of UFC on FOX.

Henderson and Guida went toe-to-toe during all three rounds, with both fighters having their opportunities to get the finisher. The war was at the fence, in stand up, and on the ground - something that was a true display of Mixed Martial Arts.

Benderson won the majority of stand-up exchanges, getting Clay Guida hurt on several occasions. The Carpenter responded with an incredible power of will, outwrestling Henderson and getting his moments on the ground with a number of super-tight Gil. Choke attempts. However, just like Clay Guida recovered from getting rocked by Ben Henderson, "Smooth" did well to find his way out of the choke.

In the end, the judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28 in favor of Ben Henderson. "Smooth" victory for Henderson, who now improves his Mixed Martial Arts record to 15-2 and 3-0 in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Bendo will now fight Frankie Edgar, most likely in headliner of UFC's return to Japan.

I am glad he won. I just want to say to all the people that thought that just because Pettis beat Ben and Clay beat Pettis does not equal a win for Clay. Awesome job Ben.

It was a close fight. Closer than the talk that Ben Henderson was talking. It really sounded like he was underestimating and overlooking Clay Guida. I guess in the end Ben showed he's experienced and wise enough not to make that mistake. He fought a great fight.

...and still lightweight champion of the world

Bendo is a great fighter, but Frankie's boxing and wrestling are on another level.

Perfect example of MMA math not working.

What an amazing fight could watch that for 30 rounds, I thought it was closer than most people seemed to and would have put it down as a 28-27 Henderson.

I like Ben but he isn't going to be able to get a hold of Frankie and if Gray couldn't hold him down or knock him out neither will Ben.

In my opinion Henderson's only chance is to sub him, most likely a guillotine or RNC.

Has anyone ever been able to choke out Ben? I haven't seen it... or can't remember it happening.

When he fought Cowboy... the guy had him several times in a guillotine ....really deep.... and nothing. Clay should have know this...

All in all... a fun fight to watch. Best of luck to Ben against Frankie... that is going to be a battle!

this was one of those fights which should have been 5 rounds.

this was just a warmup for these guys...

guida is one tough fighter to finish...

could never see him as a title holder though...

Guida has reached a dead end in terms of his fight style until he replaces moving just for the sake of moving.

Sure, it makes him harder to hit, bit only to a point. He's usually just bouncing from side to side instead of cutting angles.

The same goes for trying to trade power shots by tucking his head down and winging punches without looking. Bendo realized you just have to step back a bit and pick him apart.

I give Ben a decent chance of beating Edgar. Frankie hasn't fought anyone other than BJ and Maynard since 2009. Two very good opponents to be sure, but not a lot of difference in styles.

In that same time, Bendo has fought 7 different opponents.

I think that Ben has a decent shot at dethroning Edgar. But Frankie has proven me wrong on a number of different occasiins. It's so easy to underestimate the guy for some reason or other. I guess he just looks like to nice a guy to be a fighter.
