UFC announces Rampage Jackson vs. Shogun Rua 2

After long weeks of speculations about his future, it looks like the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, has finally got his wish. Jackson will be released from his Ultimate Fighting Championship contract, but only after the long-anticipated PRIDE rematch with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, most likely this summer.

Here's the official announcement on UFC.com:

As reported on Fuel TV's UFC Tonight, UFC President Dana White has revealed that disgruntled former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will face another former champ, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. The stellar pairing will be a rematch of their 2005 PRIDE bout, which Rua won by knockout. The bout is the last of Jackson's UFC contract, and he and the UFC are expected to part ways after the fight, which doesn't have a site or date yet.

Thity-three year old Jackson will look to bounce back from two consecutive defeats to Ryan Bader and the reigning 205 champ Jon Jones, currently holding a professional MMA record of 32-10. First fight between Jackson and Rua ended in favor of the Brazilian, via a brutal soccer kicks TKO in Round 1.

Rampage has better "straighten up" and go back to training seriously, for if he doesn't, he'll be badly damaged by a revitalized and clearly hungrier Shogun...Rua would murder the overweight, ill-trained Rampage we saw in the Bader fight...I wish Rampage's desire to revenge his memorable and devastating Pride loss will ignite some fire in his lazy behind and push him to seek greatness in his presumably last showdown...

Meh I'm not that excited, I honestly don't expect Rampage to commit 100% to this fight and I when is the last time we've seen Rampage put on an exciting fight? Got lots of respect for what Rampage has done in Pride and winning the UFC belt but he's doing everything in his power to tell us he doesn't want to be a (UFC?) fighter anymore so why is he still fighting? All we're gonna hear about after the fight is how he did the UFC another huge favor by taking this fight and how they did nothing for him in return.

I dont think Rampagee will beat shogun. Almost impossible . He is too slow an too predictable . But who knows ,maybe he can catch shogun somehow

Shogun hasn't been looking so great lately, but Rampage was even worse so I take Shogun. Should be good, too bad the hype won't be as good as it could have since they both lost quite a bit recently.

Shogun that fought Machida would destroy Rampage but he hasn't been the same since the knee surgery just before Jones.

I think it all comes up to how Rampage comes in.

Shogun hasn't looked amazing in last few fight but he turned it on at some points in Hendo fight and looked decent (maybe a bit slow) against Forrest.

I still think Shogun's current form will be current Rampage unless Rampage comes in like he did against Bones, best Page in years.

Ive always said, its Shogun's health that keeps him from destroying everyone. If his knees not a hundred percent, 1/2 his arsenal is gone. Thats obvious.

So he cries and whines for a week and gets what he wants.......another big payday. Maybe he'll only weigh-in 10 pounds over this time.

I was a fan of Rampage since the Arona slam in Pride. I became mush less of a fan when he and Suga coached TUF. Evans was a good coach and Rampage was a jerk. He is very self centered / its all about me. It is indeed time for him to go after Shogun sends him packing.

That's true, Shogun will only take it for the fans, there is no logic for this matchup, except pleasing us.

I think Shogun is eyeing retirement, like Bruce said. He may have no concern at this point in his career about rankings.

This is crap, and a slap in the face to Shogun. It's all about money. White should just hand Rampage his last check now and show him the door today, because that is what this is all about.

Rampage will half-ass train and look like an idiot, just like he has over the past several months. He will probably feign another injury and whine the whole time too.

Too bad soccer kicks to the head are not legal in the UFC. It would be nice to see Rampage go out the way he deserves, unconscious.

Rampage is going to be in fking great shape for this fight, better believe that! He has a chance to revenge his loss and also he doesnt want to leave with a bad performance.

I very much doubt it, the last two fights he's had he could have became LHW champ and then please his Japan fans, if neither of them motivated him I doubt fighting Shogun would either. I've found it hard to listen to Rampage whining recently, its a shame because he can be such a funny dude but instead he chooses to cry over BS.

Not a good match up for Shogun in this one it wont move him forward in the title race. The best out come for Shogun is to dominate Rampage for 3 rounds, punish him and then Knock him out in the last round to show the Shogun of old to remind everyone what made him a champion on the first place. If that did happen Rampage will leave the UFC and even MMA all together.

Ill bet on rampage for the upset, both are legends to the sport and a little passed their prime but I wouldn't be shocked if rampage comes in shape and trys to prove a point in his last fight.

If they had made that fight in Japan, their fans would have been way more excited. Instead they see their ex-pride star get beat by a guy Tito owned lmao.

Finally someone who might go toe to toe with Rampage. Its annoying (but smart) how most guys basically spend the whole fight avoiding him. His fight against Wanderlei was awesome for that reason. Shogun should make this one good.

Rampage will be in good shape. He will be hungry for revenge. He will be excited for this fight because he knows it will be a fight. Hands will be thrown with bad intentions from both. Just like he said when it was in Pride... a loss is ok as long as the fight is exciting. Pride vets produce exciting fights.
