UFC Results: Stefan Struve submits Pat Barry in Round 2
Posted on October 1, 2011, 09:41 PM by Anton GurevichOnce again, Pat "HD" Barry is on the wrong side of one of the most spectacular finishes ever seen inside the Octagon.
Barry opened the fight well, pushing Stefan Struve to the fence and controlling the action despite having a much shorter reach. It’s important to note that Struve displayed highly improved striking skills, perhaps finally learning the positives and negatives of his unusual height. But then again, Pat Barry was better in Round 1, going to the break with a 10-9 advantage.
In Round 2, Barry and Struve exchanged leg kicks, in what started to look like a classic kickboxing contest. Pat Barry connected with a good striking combination that wobbled Stefan Struve, but the best was yet to come. Getting enough of stand-up action, Stefan Struve went for a modified standing gil. choke, but then quickly found himself locking a tight triangle from the guard. Realizing it's do or die, Pat Barry picked up Stefan Struve and went for a devastating slam - but while in the air, Struve caught HD's arm to complete a full Armbar/Triangle lock. Barry had no choice but to tap out, as Stefan Struve successfully bounces back from defeat against Travis Browne.
Struve is now 22-5 in his career, 6-3 in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
