UFC Results: Roy Nelson TKO's Mirko Cro Cop in 3rd
Posted on October 29, 2011, 09:43 PM by Anton GurevichBig Country Roy Nelson successfully bounced back from defeats to Junior dos Santos and Frank Mir with a victory over the legendary Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 137.
Nelson was the more aggressive fighter throughout the bout, stalking Mirko Cro Cop around the Octagon with striking combinations and takedown attempts. Cro Cop responded with kicks to the mid section and powerful hooks, but Roy Nelson absorbed everything the legend had to offer. Cro Cop had a strong opening in Round 2, tagging Nelson with a powerful shot that put Big Country with his back at the fence. Filipovic unleashed fury, but Roy Nelson, once again, displayed second to none chin that absorbed dozens of Cro Cop's punches.
More than that, Nelson ended up winning the round when he locked Cro Cop in the crucifix position, reminding the fans his triumph over Kimbo Slice at TUF 10. Cro Cop survived the onslaught, but it was just a sign of things to come in Round 3. Roy Nelson got Cro Cop's back, before throwing vicious ground and pound that flattened Filipovic with his face down on the canvas. The referee Steve Mazzagatti had no choice but to stop the contest via TKO.
In his post-fight interview, Roy Nelson asked for a title shot against the winner of November 12th JDS vs. Velasquez clash, which is currently reserved for either Alistair Overeem or Brock Lesnar. Nelson improved his record to 16-6.

Roy looked good, and a lot lighter and quicker. His cardio seemed much better. Anyone who can hang for three rounds with JDS and remain standing--is pretty tough.
A salute to Cro Cop, if this is his last fight, I almost thought he would put Nelson out, but Big Country just absorbed the punishment and tired Mirko out.
He should fights 2 or 3 times before having that title shot
I think he should fight the loser of overeem and brocky then we will see what happens there before title shots are discussed
reem is a very bad matchup for him
So your saying that Reem is going to lose?
Well if he does and he fights Roy you are right but if thats what roy wants then fine by him
definitely shouldnt be talking about title shots after going 1-2 in your last 3, saved his job tho
