UFC Welterweight contender Anthony "Rumble" Johnson added another TKO victory to his record, this time knocking out (or not) Charlie Brenneman with a head kick in Round 1.

Johnson opened aggressively, with Brenneman looking to set up a takedown as part of his quite predictable gameplan. When Brenneman went for the takedown, Anthony Johnson defended well with a sprawl that later helped him to maintain top position throughout the fight. Having Charlie Brenneman's back, Anthony Johnson softened up his opponent with Ground and Pound and knees to the body, but then found himself defending a gil. choke in Charlie Brenneman's guard.

However, Johnson found his way out of the choke and then back into stand up. From there, it was a quick way for Anthony Johnson to finish the fight via TKO. Charlie Brenneman dodged bullets for a few seconds, but then caught a vicious head kick that sent him flat on the canvas. Brenneman landed well on his elbows, and looked conscious - but the way he went down was enough for the referee Mario Yamasaki to stop the bout.

Anthony Johnson is now 10-3 in his MMA career, currently enjoying a two-fight winning streak.

I'm a new fan of Rumble. He looks great. Put him up against a top five contender - he's ready!

I would say the stoppage was maybe a bit early, but probably inevitable.

Charlie wasn't out, but lying like that, with both elbows on the ground, his head has sticking up like ball on a tee. And he looked totally over-matched.

I'd say Johnson is two solids wins away from a title shot. I'd like to see him fight Koscheck again.

Huge fan of Rumble. Yamasaki pretty much saved Charlie's life he would've gotten punched at least 3 more times square in the face and then it woulda been over. Great job by the ref I thought. Rumble needs two more big wins in that stacked welterweight division. How about Rumble against Ellenberger???

A lot of people on here seem to think they know exactly how this fight would have gone had it been allowed to happen. I had Johnson winning via 1st round tko in the picks but fighters have come back from worse than what Charlie took. That was a BS stoppage plain and simple. The dude was wide awake. If I were Brenneman I would appeal that stoppage and ask the fight to be declared a no contest. If they fight again I think Johnson will dominate but that doesn't change the fact that last night's stoppage was a travesty.

are you seriouse? brenneman stood their rocked with his hands fully down and took another kick right to the face and went down, wether he was technechly out or not is irrelevent, he showed no defence what so ever. it was a proper stoppage.

I have read many of your posts and this one is no different. You are clueless. He did not just stand there with his hands down. There has constant action and in a mele he forgot to keep his hands up while retreating. He was getting dominated and will again if there is ever a rematch but there was no reason to stop that fight at that time. He was fully concious and never looked otherwise.

IDK man, Kos used some stall tactics but he also took him down and had his way with him. I don't see Johnson beating Kos. I give him a puncher's chance and that is it
