UFC 152: Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez II Fight Card
Posted on June 10, 2012, 08:50 PM by Mike DrahotaBarring any injuries, Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez II is rumored to headline UFC 152 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada. The September 22nd card is beginning to shape up nicely as Rory MacDonald is set to face the returning BJ Penn in a Welterweight showdown as well.
Both dos Santos and Velasquez have obviously proved their mettle in the UFC Octagon, with JDS undefeated and Velasquez's only blemish being a KO loss to dos Santos for the belt last November. The two top-ranked Heavyweights were in top shape at last month's blockbuster UFC 146 card, with JDS earning the TKO over Frank Mir and Velasquez seeing the same result against Bigfoot Silva. Bloodying his opponent from the outset in a vicious one-sided affair, the results left little doubt as to who should face dos Santos next for the belt.Dos Santos has since opened as a slight favorite over his rival Velasquez.
Dana White touched on the subject after UFC on FX 3, and there will no doubt much more to come on this high-profile matchup. Many MMA fans worldwide praised dos Santos for his performance against Velasquez at last fall's inaugural UFC on Fox card, but also noted that Velasquez never had a chance to get his feet off the ground after a huge right hand to the temple rocked him. There is a good chance that Cain Velasquez will come out stronger in the rematch, this time not having to deal with the after-effects of shoulder surgery and the subsequent year-long layoff. Only time will tell, and hopefully injuries do not cause a change to the card like they have so many others recently.

pathetic, jds won decisively by kO THE first time and all cain had to do was beat a top 20 fighter in bigfoot to get a shot!!!!!! It shouldve been alistair, DC, or the winner of werdum-russow!!!!!
I dont see why someone shold have a problem with Dos Santos Cain 2 only argument to me is DC getting it but since he has one more fight in strikeforce there not gonna wait 10 months to a year or even more to wait on Dos Santos vs DC. There not gonna wait 9 months for Overeem either. Who ever wins between Werdum and Russow shouldn't get a title shot over Cain IMO. Cain is obviously the number 2 guy after JDS. I think Cain gets the belt back at UFC 152
@newbreed07
Im ok everything you write but "Cain gets the belt back at UFC 152" No he will be KO/TKO/KTFO again. Im sure he will performe better and will past first even second round but he will lose. There is only 2 guys stand a chance agains JDS, Overeem and Mark Hunt. Overeem cant out strike JDS, and Mark Hunt has a chance KTFO any human being, if you stand and trade punches (and that is how JDS fights)
And about DC before any judgements lets see him against a UFC gatekeeper, a washed up Barnet is not enough imho...
I feel you but cain shouldve beaten a mir or brock or carwin either than a bigfoot with no takedown defense!!!!!!!!!!!! alistair was punished for trt but yet mir and chael wasn't i think thats bull and it should be alistair vs jds just because mir and chael are white doesnt mean its fair if their alloewed to use performance enhancers!!!!!!!
It shoud be "Overeem can out strike JDS"
I wish i had pay more attention to my English Classes...
"There is only 2 guys stand a chance agains JDS, Overeem and Mark Hunt."
Mark Hunt lol.
Oh and MArk Hunt is waaay past his prime buddy he'll get beat really bad. Overeem has a glass jaw, he's probably roided up right now training for whoever he gets when hes off suspension. No respect for overeem
You have to remember Allistair can't be offered a fight when he is suspended. Cain is the best choice. Most fans want to see the rematch considering Cain was the former champion.
Screw Overeem. He had his chance and blew it. Just like Diaz did with GSP.
Plus Horsemeat wasn't the cause of the high T levels.
Overeem is stupid, but he sure can strike there is no doubt. Just an idiot.
Why do we have to wait for Overeem. He screwed up. Then we will be saying why is isn't JDS fighting anyone. Cain and JDS make the best matchup for us fans now. If Overeem wasn't in trouble then we wouldn't be having this discussion anyway cause the fight would of already happened.
Why I don't get why fans are upset? Mir and Cain were suppose to fight on May 26. Overeem is out and Mir jumps in and all most all the fans were like "this is fair for Frank", when they knew what the outcome would be. Now Cain gets a shot and everyone freaks out.
Do I need to be on qualudes or something?
Weak or not, I agree with you.....
Cain wins one fight after losing and gets another shot right away, total BS. Too much of this crap going on in the UFC. Let someone else get their shot.
Cain deserves the shot, 10 and 1. He got caught, if anybody beats JDC its a wrestler, nobody and i mean NOBODY will beat him standing up, he's never been put on his back. Plus no heavyweight is really on a strek of wins, whoever gets the shot will only have 1 or 2 wins behind them
Afraid jds might actually loose. And Cain had a layoff. And its not like he got to train that whole layoff ,he was recovering most of the time . Not sayin hell destroy jds. But. Its gonna be a different cane. He ****ed bigfoot up like an appetizer. Kinda like a get out my way bitch, so I can get my belt back
Allistair is out for the next 9months guy. Werdum got KO'd, Russow has not even beaten 1 top 30 guy. Cain would run through Werdum. Cain definitely deserves this shot, he got caught in the first minute, and if ANYBODY is going to beat JDS its Cain. Not saying Cain will win, but it's going to be a completely different fight this time around
So since when do fighters that get KO only have to fight one time to get another title shot...thats some ladder cain had to climb back up! Im not one to theorize about behind the scenes but i honestly think UFC and everybody is trying to give cain as much of a push as they can just because he's Mexican and dana and everybody wants to break out in Mexico/the mexican market so bad!
add to the fact that one time he fought a top 30 or top 20 at best bigfoot!!!!!!!!!
I know that Dana's not the nicest person in the world but the amount you 'fans' dog everything the UFC does is a bit ridiculous. If not Cain then who exactly was JDS supposed to fight? Wait 10 months for Overeem to finish his suspension and hope he gets re-licenced? Or wait for DC to heal his broken hand then finish his last fight in SF?
The bottom line is that Cain was the only viable option for a challenger who could fight JDS within a reasonable timeframe. If you don't like this fight do us all a favor and don't fvcking watch.
Are you dumb? Or just plain stupid? You sound like you know nothing.
Let's be honest here: JDS threw a big overhand and it happened to hit Cain on the ear, rupturing his eardrum and blowing his equilibrium to crap.. He was aiming for Cain's chin, Cain dodged, and that was the result. He got caught with what was basically a lucky punch from somebody who doesn't really need much luck. That fight could have gone much differently had the punch hit him in the jaw or something instead.
Besides, Cain vs. Mir was suppossed to be a #1 contender spot before Mir got the title shot. Cain not only won, but he won in a way that was anything but lucky, easily one of the most dominant performances ever seen in MMA. He threw Bgfoot down like a cheap hooker and f'ed him up, then stood up wearing his opponents blood as sleeves. A performance like that could get someone who wasn't even really in title contention an instant shot. If dominance over opponents is considered at all for title contention, Cain made a huge case for getting a shot against Bigfoot.
the HW ladder is a weird one but I do feel like Cain was second in line regardless. Until Cormier and Barnett transfer over and some other heavyweights (Alistair Overeem and many others) improve their resume.
I can understand if Cain had gotten beaten up for 3-4 rounds and THEN knocked out being called "Decisively beaten" but he got caught in the first few moments of the fight. Him losing to JDS so quickly doesn't mean that Cain can't be/isn't still the #1 contender in the HW division. I think this will make for a much more competitive fight this time around as long as Cain sticks to what got him to the HW belt in the first place, his beastly wrestling and GnP.
Lol now that just sounds like a Cain Fan in denial that he WAS Decisively beaten...Since when is a quick KO not decisive?
how th crap would he be beaten desicevly if he can't even last a round with cigano!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because a quick KO doesn't show what else JDS has to offer. I'm not taking anything away from him he won fair and square but knocking a guy out in less than a minute isn't the same as dominating a guy for 3-4 straight rounds, making him look like he isn't in the same league as you, AND THEN putting him away. Just the way I see things though, I enjoy a good back and forth fight that shows what both guys have to offer.
Another well placed shot to the face is what else JDS has to offer. Cain is gonna get KOd again. He was milked up the ladder by the UFC and got famous for TKOing Brock, then he beats Bigfoot oh boy. Mark my words JDS isnt going anywhere for a while.
Matt Serra vs Gsp
Toronto always gets great cards. Love the respect ufc gives us.
Cain was coming off a long injury rehab for that bout, but JDS was a actually injured.
Velasquez is really well rounded, but isn't quite fast enough for some with Junior's hand speed. Kongo's striking also gave him some trouble.
Even if Cain is the #1 contender, that doesn't mean he should get the rematch already. The UFC has got rematch-itis. I'm tired of the same fighters facing each other over and over.
Why not give it to someone Junior hasn't fought? To be honest, I think the fighters who are ranked second to fifth or six would have about the same chance of getting the belt.
This fight makes sense to me. Cain has one loss on his record to the number 1 guy. Nobody else in the HW division even comes close to having a record like his. Mike Russow has the numbers but has not faced the same caliber of opponent as Cain in terms of name recognition at least. If he gets past Verdum, then I believe he should be in the mix. Matchups are made based largely on a fighters last performance. Cain shredded Big Foot. Russow smothered Einemo. Bloody beat downs will always trump grinding out a gassed opponent. However, we know that he's capable of dropping bombs. If Mike comes out and knocks Vai Cavalo out cold, I bet we either see him up for the strap or at least thrown against Overeem after his suspension is up.
I might change my mind, but I think Cain underestimated JDS's Boxing. His takedown defense is unreal and with his build he going to be hard to shoot. Somebody's Judo better be unreal. GOod Luck getting in the clinch with him. You will be eating some punches.
TO all the Overeem lovers. This is the best fight the UFC can do until Steroid can get licensed again.
JDS likes to keep his mobility and box, I don't think I've ever seen him do damage in the clinch.
When JDS KOs him again, the sheep will quiet down, not until then. Thats just the way it is. "Human nature"
Awesome News...
This will be a great fight. These two competitors are top shelf all the way, which you can't say for many heavyweights.
Cigano possesses the better hands and Cain brings incredible wrestling to the cage so he must get Junior down and see how he can work him otherwise he goes to sleep.
