UFC 142 Wrap-Up: Barboza gets $130k, Palhares & Etim take home $65k
Posted on January 15, 2012, 12:11 AM by Joey SantosusThe UFC staged their second show in Brazil in just five-months time tonight, delivering an exciting line-up from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Reigning Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo continued his streak of dominance, knocking out Team Alpha Male product, Chad Mendes, with a well-timed knee in the headlining bout. Middleweight veteran Vitor Belfort picked up his second-consecutive victory, choking out Anthony Johnson in the co-main event, while Rousimar Palhares needed just 63 seconds to submit Mike Massenzio with his signature heel-hook. Also featured was rising prospect Erick Silva, who battered Carlo Prater early-on, but was disqualified due to strikes deemed illegal, and Edson Barboza, who scored a vicious wheel-kick knockout victory over Terry Etim in the main-card opener.
The UFC awarded generous $65,000 bonuses to the night's top performers, who were announced by Dana White immediately following the event.

The Etim-Barboza fight wasn't exactly a barnstormer, maybe the KO was so good Dana wanted to award Barboza twice?
Also, that KO has GIF written all over it.
It wasn't a slugfest, far from it, but in technical MMA terms it was fantastic. The kind of fight a purist enjoys. I am glad for once the award has gone to a fight that was rich with technical brilliance by both fighters. It may appear boring to some fans due them being pretty evenly matched skill wise, but both were very impressive. I just hope Etim is OK. he landed very bad after being knocked out standing.
@Mr Azzkika,
I agree, these guys were well matched skill wise, anyone with an mma background understands that the fight was excellent. I was disappointed for Etim as he had the fight until the KO. That KO, was sick! Great fight.
Etim was not winning that fight before he was KOd, sorry
@Hunter,
I disagree. Perhaps I'm wrong, can you tell me what criteria you were using to judge the fight?
Cheers
The way i read that is that there wasn't a fight of the night so he gave that bonus to a top 10 mma knock out of all time, makes sense to me.
130k isn't a bad payday. What an entertaining card.
I think the main event should of got the Fight of the Night award
Why?
didnt look like much of a fight to me
Omigawa vs Alcantara should have been FOTN. Omigawa is as tough as anybody. He got hurt to the body. He got hurt. He got armbarred and choked.
Alcantara is a monster. Top 15 FW IMO. Let him fight Mike Brown, Ross Pearson or Jim Hettes. Even a fight with Charles Oliveira (if he beats Eric Wisely) should be a good one. Hope he fight more often this year.
Silva beat prater
Mario Yamazaki Vs the Brazilian crowd should have been fight of the night BUT Prater was Brazilian so it did not happen.
