UFC 141: Johny Hendricks finishes Jon Fitch in 12 seconds

After going undefeated for over three years, Jon Fitch was stopped in just 12 seconds by the heavy underdog Johny Hendricks.

Johny Hendricks unleashed a powerful left hook that landed right on Jon Fitch's chin, knocking down the former UFC Welterweight title challenger senseless on the canvas. The referee Steve Mazzagatti rushed in to stop the action, awarding Hendricks the biggest victory of his MMA career.

Jon Fitch was unaware the fight has ended, and tried to wrestle Steve Mazzagatti.

Johny Hendricks improves to 12-1, with sights on a title run in 2012. Jon Fitch is now 23-4-1, as Dana White and Joe Silva have one less headache.

There goes Fitch's claim to a title shot :/ I wonder how hard they will try to market Hendricks after this.

"Hendricks, the guy who finished in 12 seconds, what GSP couldn't do in 5 rounds" or "Hendricks - the 170-pound arlovski"

I agree, nobody beats Fitch like that. I am okay with the stoppage but I also feel Hendricks is not near John Fitchs level and that he did well tonight as anyone with heavy hands can get that shot. In a rematch I would pick Fitch again.

Yeah, great finish. Would have been hilarious if Fitch landed some gnp on Mazzagati.

i seriously thought he was...he looked to come closer than any other "out" fighter has to attacking the ref, without actually doing it. and people dont think he was out or the stop was premature, lol...slow mo shows the eyes roll back and stay shut , and after he thinks he is in Chicago or some shit.

I honestly felt the stoppage was a bit premature. The follow up punch that Hendricks threw missed, and Fitch immediately was trying to roll him over. Oh well, though. Fitch'll be back.

You could probably say he was out from the punch and that hitting the ground woke him up, but I've seen a lot of fights like that. Mazagatti was running in to stop the fight right after Fitch went flying, and normally they only move in right after a strike lands solidly if it was a GnP strike and the person goes limp from it. Lots of people go down from a standing strike that hits really solidly and look out of it before they hit the ground, but it's not until they show they can't defend themselves from follow up that the ref stops it. It's when the unanswered punches start landing that the fight gets stopped.

Not saying he wouldn't have finished off Fitch anyway though. That was a massive punch. But if you look at some of the more famous KOs from some guys highlight reels where the person was obviously out from a perfect hit (Henderson vs. Bisping and JDS vs Werdum come to mind) the ref makes no move to stop the fight until an unanswered strike lands after the shot.

But you have got to take the Ref's reaction time into account as well. I mean no one is standing there telling the ref that someone is about to go down from a punch; it just happens in a split second and sometimes the Ref has to catch up to the moment.

That's why Dan Henderson got to land that diving tiger punch on Bisbing after putting him to sleep with that big right hand that Bisbing saw coming from a mile away. It took the ref a second to react; and in that time Hendo landed the nail in the coffin on the Count in that fight!

That was one big shot, follow up lead some to believe that Fitch could have continued but I doubt he would have lasted another 10 seconds.

IMO only Frankie "The Man" Edgar could recover from a punch like that and come back to win! I would not have argued if the ref had stopped either of his last two fights with Gray in the first rounds because of the damage he took alone.

Fitch is good and he grinds his fights out; but he is no Frankie Edgar, so maybe that is why the ref didn't give him the benefit of the doubt.

Fitch has survived pretty bad situations too and looked no worse than Edgar did.

Yup two underdogs who knocked out their opponents in the first round need to fight each other. They'll be confident and they WILL put on a show.

Who is Ellenberger set up to fight next- Koschek? I think Hendricks is the better choice as well.

for me this is more the ANTON curse... i remember a couple of months ago he did a report on his top 10 p4p fighters and there was a huge discussion over here. that was because he had on his list FITCH, MAYNARD and OKAMI. also because cain wasnt on the list and that dominick cruz was number 3.

the 3 of them have been smashed on their last fight. but at least it worked for him that cain wasnt on the list but i think he will soon be right there again. on dominick cruz i think that his last 2 fights proved that he isnt near number 3 p4p.

So surprised at that, Fitch is a terminator and can take all the punishment in the world but I guess Hendricks just proved once again how hard he hits.

I think a match between him and Ellnberger should happen, the two hardest hitters in the 170 pound divison's history and two superb wrestlers.

Feel extremely sorry for Fitch, been out for so long and been getting the title contention cold shoulder for a long time and was finally getting mentioned again and is now coming off a draw and a 12 second one punch KO. Gonna be a long road back for him, hope he comes back better than ever.

Seeing this really irked me. Not because Fitch lost, although that is irritating as well, but because it'll now give fuel to the Fitch-haters who don't want to see Fitch fight for the title. I figured Fitch would have problems with Hendrick's striking, however I thought it would last more than twelve seconds.

Now I'll have to put up with "LOL THE BORING FIGHTER LOST YAY" from all the fans who don't appreciate or respect the amount of work Fitch puts into his style of fighting. Fitch is an excellent fighter, sure he doesn't knock guys out, but he works just as hard if not harder than every welterweight on the roster and he's paid his dues fairly.

He deserves the respect of all the fans out there. My hat goes off to Hendricks though, great knockout, great victory.

But that's how it is in the fight game: You are only as good, as bad, or as boring as your last fight.

Fitch is not the first to be on the recieving end of this dagger. And it falls upon the loser in every single fight since the beginning of time.

If you think that you feel bad right now, how do you think John Fitch feels? He is the one that has done the hard work for three long years in an effort to get back to the top of this WW mountain; only to be sent tumbling back down.........again. He is a good fighter, and he knows how to get up, dust off and start back up that Mountain, he'll get there Apocalypse.
