UFC 135 Results: Jon Jones chokes out Rampage Jackson in 4th

Jon Jones proved once and for all he's the real deal, thanks to an amazing performance against Rampage Jackson in the main event of UFC 135.

This time we saw a patient and calm Jon Jones, who was not willing to over-expose himself with trademark unorthodox moves. Instead, Jones channeled his aggression to kicks and punches to the body, which step by step took all the steam out of Jackson's legendary warrior spirit.

Rampage responded with wild punches, but none of them landed clean to put Jon Jones in any type of danger. The only positive thing for Jackson was his takedown defense. Jones tried to execute a takedown on several occasions, but was successful in just a few of them. But when Jones got Rampage down, he unleashed vicious ground and pound that cut the challenger wide open. Bloodied-up and hurt Jackson also got some disrespect from Jones, when the Champ picked him up and sort of "half-slammed" on the canvas at the end of Round 3. But, it was only a sign of things to come.

It was obvious that Jon Jones will try to finish the fight in Round 4. The Champ opened strong with kicks and punching combination, as Rampage Jackson got pushed to the fence once again. Jones got Jackson down in a very uncomfortable position for the challenger, then getting his back in preparations for finishing maneuver. With his legs locked over Jackson's back, it was a short way for Jon Jones to execute a neck-breaking Rear Naked Choke.

Jackson tapped out for the first time in 10 years. Last time was against Kazushi Sakuraba at Pride 15. Plus, Jon Jones was the first man to finish Rampage inside the Octagon (and sine the Wanderlei Silva fights in PRIDE).

Jon Jones is without a doubt of the greatest Mixed Martial Artists on the planet. In just three years, "Bones" achieved the unbelievable. Rashad Evans is next, and it will be interesting to see how Jon Jones works against someone with as-good-as wrestling. But until then, let's just enjoy The Bones Era.

Jones fights cheap with those knee and shin strikes but its smart tactics. Just so dirty to me.

Jones will say his foot is injured and he cant fight Rashad to duck Rashad some more.....watch lol

Rashad seems to be the best challenge, his style on paper seems best to counter Jones' reach. Oh and forget arm reach.....we need to talk about his leg reach, those legs alone is what stopped Rampage. His reach is a hurdle that will be hard for most to overcome.

Lets see if Rashad and/or Machida will be the solution to Jones

I've been behind Jones since I first heard anmd saw him, knew he would become the champion after the demolisition of Matyushenko, had full confidence going in against Shogun, stuck by him during his personality change and now........... now I still can't believe how easily he handled Rampage (the best Rampage has been in years maybe ever).

I just hope Jones goes back to being the humble champion he was pre-title.

I have to disagree with you on Rashad being the best challenge. I feel like Rashad's takedowns will be shut down similarly to how Ryan Bader was so easily shaken off. Only thing Rashad will do better than Rampage is mixing it up, and that will only matter if he can cut Jones off and land some shots. Give Phil Davis a couple of years and he will rise to the occasion.

Also Rampage dogged a lot of elbows was impressed that he did his homework and executed it. Wish he would of checked more leg kicks. That seems to be Rampages Achilles heel. His reach is just too much. Good fight none the less.

Not sure what others thought they saw in Rampage that made them think this fight would turn out any other way.

They saw that Rampage is one of the most dangerous stikers in the ufc and saw that Jon Jones has never fought a good striker to test him..other then Shogun but we all know the problems with shogun back then!..when ur fighting a KO fighter like rampage anything can happen..

Calm, collected, precautious and technical, Jones seems unbeatable. The days of championship slug fests are over. Thanks Greg Jackson.

USA Today reported that Jones was limping back to the dressing room. Hope it's not an injury that will put off the Evans fight. If that happens people will say its just to dodge him again...

Although Rampage was a major test, you have to say Jones pitched another shut out.

Jones still never taken down. His chin still never tested. Jackson didn't even smell winning around.

If Rashad is lucky, he'll get hurt again and not have to fight his "friend". The only guy I can see even having a chance of beating Jones is Silva.

Honestly I don't think Silva can compete with Jones either. Don't get me wrong, Silva is a phenomenal fighter and has already solidified his legacy, but Jones(as cliche as it may sound) is something different. Looking at the fight from an objective point of view, Jones has more advantages. Anderson may be the better and more experienced striker, but Jones has a superior reach advantage along with an evolving striking game. Also, in the past, it has been proven that Anderson has had trouble against explosive wrestlers. Jon Jones is an explosive wrestler and has more leverage to get takedowns and throws. In this fight, I think it all comes down to how well Silva's subs are? His two recent submission wins were against Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen(someone who has had a history of being submitted by triangles).

where are all the rampage fans now??? Jones is legit and Rampage is a great promoter but not the fighter bones is. Not even close and it showed tonight. I still like Rampage though. He's tough and gritty and when focused will put on a good show. Very classy after the fight as well.

Hey of all the fights Jones had he was the most cautious in this one. Why would a fighter with over a 10 in reach advantage constantly kick and try to take down Rampage? BECAUSE he respected Rampage's KO power. Greg Jackson would NEVER allow Jones to stand with Rampage the whole fight; that's just stupid

Just ask Jones or Brady. Gathering a little intel before competition isn't cheating. You're only a cheater if you lose.

I must be the only one that is not impressed with his performance. He kicked rampage a lot. His take-down's were mediocre. The only thing that impressed me was his ground work. He just basically danced around and stayed out of the range. I mean, yes, it's smart and a great game-plan, but honestly i was not impressed. On the other hand, rampage had a bad game-plan, just horrible. I think Rashad will truly test JJ and will break him down. Rashad is so quick, i can't see JJ dealing well with speed, comparing Page or Rashad is like comparing a F1 car to the model T. I think Machida will be a good match up as well, he wont' chase JJ around without throwing a punch, he'll bait him well and blast him.

Dude, shut the **** up, give it a rest. No one is listening to the minority of retards out there still spouting this shit. He dominated every second of that fight against one of the best fighters in the weight class in Rampage Jackson. Jones is far and away the best light heavyweight in the world, top three pound-for-pound and he won't lose for a long time.

    Deal with it, moron.

why do people get so personal about it? You have 0% attachment to Jon Jones other than you two being human beings. Jones said that he wanted to prove that his stand up was good and he has the KO power, well he didn't prove anything. He leg kicked rampage a lot, he didn't throw all that many punches, because that would put him in reach. I'm looking at this fight objectively, there is no need to get jon jones about it

I used to be skeptical about all the Jon Jones hype, but I believe he is a talented and promising fighter. He has been tested, but he's just passing with flying colors. Why would you want to "stand & bang" to prove your chin if you can keep your distance like Jones?

Played out just like I said it would... for this not to happen Rampage needed to full out chase Jones and not let him set up, changing his own style too far from what it is.. but from his own words, "its much different when Jones is standing there with his long arms" in his face...

Rashad will be a small step up from Rampage but the only people that actually think Rashad will win are Jones haters. They will also believe everything Rashad says just like They believed Rampage. Rampage was picked apart tonight!! why cant people see that?? Rashad is not that much better than Rampage. It will play out in due time.

asdf, i agree this fight was frustrating to watch as jackson did not let his hands go at all. i know every one sais its different when you actually fight him but come on. rampage just stood on the outside getting kicked, like what he hell did he expect to happen. i was really hoping he was gonna rush jj and keep pressuring him, i know jones is super talented but hes not that experiend and i i think the best way to fight him is by not giving him time to think and space to pick his shots, both of wich rampage did. but rampage has never been a smart fighter so i wasnt really suprised.

agree its a fact that swinging and hitting nothing takes a lot more out of you then actually connecting he would look like shit to the judges just swinging at jones like a mad man plus he'd just gas out and eventually get finished possibly by KO cause his arms would be tired and would have problems keeping his hands up and too tired to evade punches so... In all NO rampage just letting his hands go would be a flawed game plan...you gotta pick you shots

Did you watch the fighter? Rampage had at least four flurries that fight in which he bullrushed Jones, one time running full-on into the fence. You're trying to justify your boy being dismantled. Rampage fought an incredibly smart fight, one of the best performances of his career by far, which is amazing to say on the losing end of a submission. He was simply outclassed in every single aspect of the game and bested by a better fighter, that's it, end of story.
