UFC 134 Results: Shogun Rua destroys Forrest Griffin
Posted on August 27, 2011, 09:47 PM by Anton GurevichFormer UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua made a huge statement, beating Forrest Griffin via TKO in the co-main event of UFC 134.
Reinvigorated Shogun looked focused, sharp, and determined to get himself back on track for a shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight title he lost to Jon Jones earlier this year. Rua landed perfect combinations, as Forrest Griffin failed to execute his gameplan and looked like his body is in Brazil, but the mind is in Las Vegas.
Finally, Mauricio Rua went toe-to-toe with Griffin, landing a strong right hand that knocked Griffin down to the canvas. Rua followed with a vicious ground and pound that saw Griffin's head bouncing off the canvas. The referee had no choice but to stop the action, awarding Shogun Rua one of the most important victories of his MMA career.
Shogun Rua improved his MMA record to 20-5.

I've been replaying this finish on my tivo while biting by bottom lip and twisting my nipples.
COmment on the right subject!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
terrible gameplan terrible performance from griffin. As a huge fan i gotta say that if he isnt hungry anymore he should hang up the gloves
I would not be surprised to hear his retirement announcement soon - if your heart is not in it anymore, and you have no realistic title aspirations, then it is time to retire in my opinion.
That's how the first fight should have went.
Thats exactly wat I said to my brother when he won.....Shogun is a beast n Griffin is also a sick fighter, ppl r calling him overrated but hes not he's beaten some who's who of MMA n has fought the very best
Actually, I don't think Griffin was ready for this fight. In the first fight he was aggressive, looked confident, and was faster. In this fight he looked very tentative, extremely slow, and unprepared. Shogun was ready and Forrest wasn't. That's Forrest's fault though. Fighters should always come prepared. I still don't think the 1st fight would have been much different had Shogun not had his injury. He fought a different guy last night.
He was f'd the second he started to fight, he looked terrified. Weird showing from Griffin.
what the hell was Griffin doing?! smh
Three words: Shogun is back.
guys you cant say griffin looked shit or terrified because the fight didnt last long enough. but from what i saw shogun is back
I knew it, Shogun was 70% same as he was with Chuck and enough to KO Forrest , next fight he is going to be 90% almost at full potential and ready to take on any contender!
Jon Jones watch your back! because next time you will fight the real Shogun!
I love shogun but I didn't see anything at all that should have hurt forest griffin. Watch the replay. A barely hit forearm glance dropped him? Some mild ground and pound? Either his head wasn't in it (most likely) or he threw the fight. Shogun is not back he didn't look great Forrest looked bad.
Really don't see why you weaked the guy. Shogun looked about where he should be. Forrest either didn't have an answer, or he threw the fight.
Honestly after his fight against AS, I would have personally asked him to take a leave of absence. He didn't get KO'd by Silva, and he didn't get TKO'd by Rua. This guy is the Liston of MMA. Throw in your towel and waste time in BAMMA. Waste of heart and talent from the guy we saw only a few years ago.
mild ground and pound? those were some nasty brock lesnar lookin hammer fists lol and kevin, did you not see anderson drop yushin the same way he did with forrest? clowns
Lesnar weighs nearly 300 lbs and he sucks so don't put shogun down like that. But if you knew Forrest griffin nothing in that fight should have stopped him.
Ya Griffins head was bouncing off the mat like a basketball with those hammer fists.
I didn't say lesnar doesn't suck or mention his weight at all? and i don't think shogun would take that as an insult so for you to say it is shows your stupidity even more. Watched the fight once more since reading your stupid claim and you still sound like an idiot sorry
Classic Shogun performance, syked to see him back on form.
But as much as I hate to say this, even with that incredible performance I don't know if he has anything more to offer that will change the outcome of a Jones re-match :(
Yup,I called it.We all got see see the "fish out of water" flail! Thanks forrest!
shogun. one of my favorites of all time. i love those hammer fists. reminded me of ricardo arona knockout in pride. i would still like to see him use more kicks and knees and even elbow with his standup. he has become just a boxer and that wastes a lot of his skill. he needs everything to get at jones.
I know it's un popular to say but I honestly didn't see anything that forest woulnt normally easily withstand. The shot that dropped him didn't even connect squarely. Go ahead and watch the replay in slow motion. While hammer fists may hurt an already stunned opponent they shouldn't end a fight on their own. I also didn't really see shogun performance as great. The last time we saw a great performance was against machida.
Just watched the fight...something seemed to be wrong with Griffin. For some reason his head just wasn't there at all, the leg kicks he threw were so slow and without power. He just didn't seemed to be there at all and got caught with a fairly simple punch. I hope he bounces back and does whatever he needs to do in terms of changing camps but going off his recent comments, long layoff and his strange performance in that fight, he may just not have the motivation to compete anymore :/
I second that! You're completely on point right there.
He did a little bit. Prob cause his wife was in labor. I don't know if he knew before or after the fight. But at the same time shogun looked faster and more crisp with his shots. So I'm sure that had a lot to do with it as well.
griffin... u looked sloppy and slow and u when u when down u didnt even protect ur face.. u just put up ur arms and waved them in the air all around.. it didnt even seem like he tried to defend himself.
i think its time to retire..
we'll miss you bro!!!
