UFC 129 Results: Lyoto Machida knocks out Randy Couture with a Crane Kick
Posted on April 30, 2011, 09:46 PM by Anton GurevichIn one of the most spectacular moments in Mixed Martial Arts history, Lyoto Machida defeated Randy Couture with a jumping front kick.
The fight started with Randy Couture controlling the pace, chasing the fellow former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion around the Octagon. However, Couture was unable to get a hold of Machida, and to eventually utilize his gameplan. Machida was sharp, executing perfect striking combinations which prevented from "The Natural" to close distance.
Second round of the fight continued the same pattern. Randy Couture was cautiously stalking Machida, once again controlling the Octagon. The highlight reel moment came at the 1:00 minute mark, with Lyoto Machida delivering a devastating jumping front kick. Couture was immediately knocked down senseless, as the referee had to jump in to stop the contest.
In his post-fight interview, Randy Couture announced his retirement stating that we won't see him again inside the Octagon. It was a great career of a tremendous athlete and a unique human being, which couldn't have a bigger and a more spectacular ending for its conclusion.

more like fake the knee and go for the front kick.............
either way awesome
@kmp. seagal was with him at the weighs in aswell. it must be the seagal touch. remember after the anderson fight he did say he had been working on the kick for 30 years! clearly seagal is the master.
he was also with Silva when Sonnen kick his ass lol
Machida and Silva already had that kick in their arsenal
But i think maybe Seagal has made them use it more
@rigo. but after sonnen slated andersons black belt in jj cos it had come from nog bros who sonnen said were a joke to be giving belt/gradings, he wanted to win by sub and he did. big mouth sonnen got silver. ha ha
randy yr a legend...would like to see him go out with win tho
Lol, I just think it's good to learn everything you can in MMA. That kick comes from the bottom of your guard right up to your chin! It's impossible to block unless you move out of the way!!
No Can Defend ahahaha
Well that is a hard kick to defend, how do you block it? You pretty much have to move out of the way.
Machida already gave him a lot of credit for it.
lol ... lyoto copy cat ! nice ko .
No country for old man.
HE'S THE BEST...AROUND!
Its gonna be so annoying to hear steven seagal say again "I taught him that move" lol
A sweet kick by Machida.
I have always thought that Machida has the best chances against Jones in the division.
So long Randy, you fought the best right to the last.
BTW: That was living proof Karate belongs in MMA.
It was a Crane kick.
Hahaha!!! Karate Kid style...
Its gonna be so annoying hearing those words from Seagal again "I taught him that kick" with a stupid grin on his face.
BH members are trying to outdo each other. I can't wait to see what JDS has in store for Brock Lesnar.
AND DANA WANTS TO CUT THIS GUY MACHIDA
Only prediction I got right haha.
You picked Homonick over Aldo and Shields over GSP?......
Shit, mother****er. You picked the opposite, and you picked Hominick over Aldo and Shields over GSP. Where's your honesty?
I hope Randy does retire, he looked very slow out there tonight.
Nice kick by Machida and good job by the ref for stopping the fight before anymore damage was dished out.
Thanks for the memories Randy - cya in the movies!
I don't think Randy was slow. Machida is just that fast. He's a ninja :-D .. He didn't go 16 and 0 for nothing you know. It was a bad matchup for Couture to begin with.
And Randy has ever been fast? Come on now try to be a little bit objective at least.
The BlackHouse fighters are a ****ing problem !!! what do they eat?? lol
Rice and beans
from dragon to karate kid
cant say i didnt see this coming, the kick was f*kin incredible, but couture getting ko"d in that fight was inevidible
Only Randy Couture could make getting kicked in the face look good.
Lyoto looked amazing last night... but that was against a 47 year old.
Nevertheless, Machida's elusive style and outstanding takedown defense makes the Jones match up appear even more intriguing. Another win and we could very well see Jones vs. Machida (assuming Jones gets through Evans and/or Rampage first).
soon we will see video of this footage spliced in with the sound and video of the final scene of Karate Kid
one of the best things i ever saw
