UFC 129: GSP vs. Shields participants gathered for a traditional Open Workout, displaying their skills ahead of this Saturday's action at the Rogers Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The event was highlighted by Georges St. Pierre's Karate performance, as the French-Canadian Champion entertained the crowd ahead of what could be the toughest test of his career.

Georges St. Pierre is a black belt in Kyokushin Karate, which had a very strong influence on his development as a Mixed Martial Artist.

I could watch Machida all day... his style is so different, and his footwork and movement is unbelievable, he doesn't just dodge and move to the side he like pivots around, and is so quick; really interesting style. Looking forward to his fight tomorrow!

machida is fun too watch good hands , foot work, and good sweep take downs all to his full karate back ground ! the only think about machida is i dont like is where he has that karate back ground when he stands yes he backs up and keeps distance , and he is a counter puncher. but when he engages he got his hands up but no boxers block . that's why its good too take up boxing . i think if couture can get a hold of him he will wear him down . if machida keeps moving maybe get a tko with that nasty left !

    I like watching Aldo's Muay-Thai. It's super crisp.

it all comes down to whether shields can get take downs. Thats the only way shields can win, i predict gsp will stuff most and give shields a beating on the feet. Once he starts connecting with his jab, he will start to use the power shots and i think gsp will surprise everyone and stop shields.

    Question...why block out/cover GSP's gi?

It also weird seeing him using his karate to defend himself, I guess i am too used to seeing him move using all of his MMA skill sets.

Very very smart move by GSP!

he put a show but a the same time he didnt show anything that Shields

could use , i bet Shields is just in blank on what will GSP do.

He didnt show it he would box , or kick a lot of wrestle!

I'm not sure if that's true actually, GSP has said before this fight he'd like to go back to a bit more of his Karate roots and throw some more kicks so maybe this in a way is a bit of a preview - but that being said this is just the open workout and we really shouldnt read anything into it.

As a GSP fan...I think I might be embarrassed. What exactly was the point of that (bit of) sad theater?

Jake Shields - not fast enough, standing straight in front of the target with virtually no movement in either his head, shoulders or feet...shooting from the outside (on GSP) won't work (IMO), his leg kicks are nothing to worry about and open opportunity for GSP to take Shields down, if and when he wishes. I'll keep to my original call - GSP TKO ...round 2

Aldo - what can't you say about the guy that isn't all positive. I am looking forward to his fight with Hominick as much, if not more than the top-of-the-card. I think it could well be fight and knockout of the night.

Machida - sorry to all Randy fans, but I want Machida to win and preferably by KO. Randy is leaving, Lyoto is staying, it's that simple. I suspect it should be a good fight; hopefully better than RC vs. Brandon Vera. Good luck to Randy in all things, but I can't pull for him in this one.

It was either a) foreshadowing on GSPs part, get it? he said he was going back to his roots for this fight (aka karate) b) he is worried about showing Shields anything before the fight so he can adjust.

GSP is clever so I'm leaning more towards option a.

Dont count Randy out. If he didnt have a solution for the Machida puzzle, he wouldn't have asked for the fight. I think that fight is anyone's game. And I also cant wait for Aldo vs Hominick. As a kickboxer, I'll be transfixed to the TV during that one just to see what i can learn

I think he mentioned he'll be going back to his roots - Karate. So maybe this is his way to pay respect to the martial arts that started it all. who knows. But to a casual viewer it must look ridiculous.

    @ War

It would be interesting if GSP went and trained with Machida.

As to Couture - Not counting him out; not at all. I just can't pull for him in this one, given that he is retiring. In terms of the fight; I suspect it will be competitive.

Shield's standup is terrible, it may be better than what we just saw, if he's sandbagging. But still, this fight isn't going to be close at all. I guess they just had to act like it would be since it's such a big event and they always want big PPV numbers. I think Shield's will get the beating of his lifetime. He's a good fighter, but he won't even get a take down.
