I respect Jake Shield's skills alongside his record, but the way he speaks about fighting GSP is pretty damn douchey, claiming he'll simply mount GSP and finish the fight. That simply will not happen. I understand he hasn't been beaten in 6 years, and he's currently on an incredibly impressive run, but considering the fact that he lost to Kampmann (in my opinion), his confidence seem a little bit unfounded.
GSP is going to use his vastly superior versatility to dictate the pace of the fight, and I predict the fans will finally receive the finish they've been begging for.
gsp got this fight as long as gsp can stand and pick him apart .
Jake is very good on the ground, if he comes in shape (or at least without such a weight cut) he COULD possibly submit Georges on the ground. I know it was a while ago but George did tap to Hughes armbar so it's possible.
That being said I don't think Jake is explosive enough with his take downs to actually get George on his back. His best chance to get in a good position might be if George takes him down and gets swept, which is hard to believe considering how good George is from the top.
More than likely this fight will be mostly contested on the feet with Jake will be at a huge disadvantage. I do believe it's possible for George to knock him out, because Jakes stand up it so poor.
In previous fights against guys like Serra (as we saw) Koscheck, Alves George was the more technical striker but he still had to worry about the power, in this fight he's way more technical and Jakes power shouldn't be a concern.
That is the best most truthful and likely accurate description of this battle taking place.
Agreed. This is pretty much exactly how I see this fight going. GSP is going to be the one to decide where the fight will take place, not Shields. If this were a pure jits match with gis, I would give the advantage to Shields, but it's not, so I don't.
Ever Improving striking by Shields? give me a break his striking is not good at all...
This is going to be a continuation of what GSP did to koscheck... 10,000 jabs..
Shield is going to gas out
He won't be able to keep up with gsp's pace
I'm most interested in Aldo... Lyoto vs Randy doesn't seem like a good match up stylistically to me.... would be nice to see Randy win it I suppose...
GSP is going to destroy Sheilds, he'll stand with him and light him up.
I don't really agree with your comment about the style match in the Couture vs. Machida fight. I think the fight will be very interesting style wise. For those who aren't huge fans of MMA and just like to see a 'fight' they likely won't like this fight, but will be interesting to see who wins the chess match.
Also if Randy wins this fight he gets a title shot and retires whether he wins or loses, calling it now.
Well, we'll see. The truth is that no-one knows, but I'm not holding my breath.
GSP should easily handle and finish Shields. Machida should put away Randy; ending his career. Hominick & Aldo will be fight of the night; I'm picking MH for the big upset.
This is going to be a great card and night of fighting. The crowd will be electric.
According to more than 90% of you on lowkick, GSP should win this fight easily.
As a huge fan of Machida, I'd love to see him get a win over Randy C because it would definitely help him build his confidence back up.
I have Aldo winning via TKO.
GSP vs Shields = I've never been more excited to see 2 fighters i don't care for go at it.
Perfect plan for Hominick, come forward against one of the best strikers out there... KOTN
Really hope Randy can get a hold of Machida.
Glad to finally see Bendo return to the ring.
GSP! GSP! GSP!
ALDOOOOO

http://twitter.com/#!/CANfighter
by no means is it a thrill to watch GSP take guys down over and over again for 5 rounds or jab them to death. Great athlete but a very boring fighter as of late. Last good fight was vs Fitch
I love Couture and Machida. I have to side with Machida here because I don't want him to be let go if he loses. The problem is Randy (almost) always finds a way to win.
I don't think it is Couture trying to find an answer to the Machida riddle. It is Machida trying to find an answer to the relentless Couture dirty boxing / pin on the cage monster.
It happens to me every time.
Once they start the hype and play the dramatic dun-dun-dun-da music I get even more pumped for the fight.
This is a great card and I am really looking forward to it.
I pick GSP, and I think he will dominate Shields, notwithstanding Shields' record. But it is not impossible that GSP is not on his 'riddum' and gets caught by Shields in a moment of carelessness.
I would like to see Hominick win, and I think he has a good chance--if he does what he claims and presses Aldo. Pressuring Aldo is very, very dangerous, but it is the only way to win--Aldo's kicks are too good for Hominick to stand on the outside.
I pick Machida to win this one. Machida has a very underrated ground game and excellent takedown defense. Randy will have to close the distance and take risks to get at him--and Machida is a great counter puncher.
I gotta pinch myself these days to see if I am dreaming--because we have seen one after the other top fights this past year and more great fights to come.
Jesus can walk on water but Chuck Norris walks on Jesus.
Thats pretty much how I feel about Shields Vs GSP. This fight will not go to decision. I don't think Shields should even have a shot at the title without facing a Penn/Fitch/Kos. Kampman isn't a #1 contender, and I agree that I thought he beat Shields.
Aldo and Hominick will be a war, but I think Aldo is at another level. Definitely #3 P4P, and will most likely be #1 when Silva/GSP retire or slow down.
Couture vs Machida...damn I can't wait to see this one. Randy's proven the world wrong on multiple occasions; however, Machida is the only guy that I can see beating Jones. Should be a great fight, and I hope this one goes all 3 rounds with Randy being able to put substantial pressure on Lyoto...in actuality, I don't see this going past round 2 with Machida by TKO.
Now that's what I call a stacked card...wow can't wait and hope Machida gets back to his winning ways in the striking department although would be great to see Randy off with a win.
Just a great card thanks to the continually growing roster of great fighters.
My main card picks are GSP, Machida, Aldo, Brilz and Bocek....plus Diaz and Foster on the Prelims.
KingJoffi out!
I don't see GSP knocking Shields out. If anything, a TKO(doctor stoppage) is the only logical finish for GSP. But I still like Shields' chances. Highly underrated and highly motivated, Shields will come out guns blazing. The first two rounds will give us enough to figure out how the rest of this fight goes down. Imagine what the Canadian crowd would sound like if Shields caught GSP with a vicious strike(like the Serra fight) and put him down? I can't wait!
Couture's best tool is his composure and his facination with sussing people out... thats why he came out of retirement to take Sylvia out because he saw holes he knew could be exploited... saying that Machidas holes have been exploited already now and he'll have worked on them... I'd have loved to have seen this fight when Machida was still undefeated but for me there's too much to lose... if couture loses he might retire and machida loses again he'll probably be cut from the UFC... saying that I'd quite like to see him end up in strikeforce and take on mousassi... now thats a good match up!!
GSP should blow Shields out of the water and I CANT WAIT t see Also step into the ocatagon... i just hope they all bring their A Game cos it seems like its got the potential to be an awsome event!!
Also lets not forget the advantage of GSP having fought 17 times in the Octgon and Shields having 1 dissapointing outing... You have to assume thats one more advantage to GSP... I Really hope this one plays out like we expect it should!!
why the fuc were my posts deleted.. had some great points this is bullshit third time this has happened.....
this is my second post that has been deleted off this site for what reason idk. but it is starting to be bullshit...i had a nice post up....has this happend to anybody else? anyway gsp has the truest test he could face in the ufc at 170... however if he does go up to fight at 185 after this fight,IF HE CAN WIN IT! then he would have his hands full with chael, and anderson...everybody else would get dominated by both jake and gsp..
as for this event coming up i see gsp trying to play with jake on the ground which could be the reason he losses this fight...if gsp stands the whole time he should win but lets face it hendo has better wrestling thatn gsp at least credential wise and was taken down at will from shields. for the first time i=since gsp has been champ i really am intrigued with this match up...i don't see randy beating lyoto. and i see a first round tko from aldo..
how much weight was that he was tossing? that looked insane
