There is one guy in the UFC welterweight division that most people are over looking that is a perfect matchup to bring the fight to St. Pierre. Carlos Condit. Put it together Dana.

Umm he said "The gate tonight was, Canadian, 11.5 million, 12.4 million US" (Which is actually an incorrect stat considering the Canadian dollar has been consistently worth more than the American dollar for over a month.)

Yeah and Jake Shields and St. Pierre are two completely different fighters. It is the matchup that counts not who they fought or beat.

I also think that Condit V GSP would be a good fight but I don't see Condit winning. I think that Nick Diaz would be a better opponent at 170. In fact, the only guys at 170 that I can see beating Georges are Nick Diaz (more effective stand up and phenomenal grappling) and Jake Shields who I think is better on the ground and is apparently close to even on the feet now. There are some up and coming guys who might give him problems soon too but for now those two are his closest comp.

Getting weaked for suggesting fights now...lol The reason that I think that Condit is a good matchup for St. Pierre is that he has standup that can frustrate St. Pierre into needing it on the ground, and he has slick submissions.

Of course Nick Diaz is the perfect matchup right now, and I have always thought that, but until they open up the cross promoting, I think that this is the best matchup, or possibly Martin Kampmann.

i agree, this card was one of the best iv seen in a while but gsp n shields kinda ruined it. like u said (meredictum) theres tons of gsp fanboys like the one below me who will try and say anything to glorify or make excuses for gsp. look at hominick, the guy had a tennis ball on his head and his left eys was swelling shut, but that didnt stop him from giving everything he had to try and finish. but gsp, as soon as his eye hurts, he cant finish anymore. thats no excuse to lay back and have zero killer instinct. ufc finally comes to my home town, biggest event in ufc history, and i found struggling to stay awake in the 4th nd 5th rounds of the main event. gsp = dissapppoinment once aain

I don't see what everyone is bitching about. There wasn't a finish but there was a strategic back and forth stand up battle with knock down head kicks, spinning kicks and some great boxing unbelievably coming from both fighters.

He doesn't suck on his back he was exhausted. He looked like shit from round one. The fact of the matter is he either needs to slim down a little or move up. He was too big and cut too much wt this time around. That said he still beat the piss out of Hominick.

GSP was relying too much on that overhand right., he should know better. The head kick that dropped Shields was nice. Sorry to say it, GSP is fighting too godamn safe. Aldo was tired but fought his heart out. Hominick on the other hand, wow, talk about a warrior. He exposed Aldo's weak (off his back) ground game.

Why do people not watch the bloody fight proper? Aldo did not gas, he had the wind knocked out of him by an excellent body shot from Hominick. totally different to gassing but the end result is similar. Aldo is great and does not need fanboys making excuses.

i'm still quite surprised that he actualy done it. The point of the game is that Goldberg drinks loads of redbull and has to go to the toilet many times during the event, so if you watch past UFC events and you just here Rogan talking for a few minutes thats cause Goldberg is taking a leak.

Why was he the first person to take rounds from Georges since Matt Serra? Why was he at the press conference while Georges was in the hospital? STFU

Becuz something on shields glove scratched his eye and he had to get it checked out..... Had NOTHING to do with shields power. It was to do with his eye. Also, taking rounds from an injured GSP isnt impressive if u think about it on the pro circuit. The rematch would not be the same.

GSP was out striking shields the 2 rounds his eye was fine, but with lack of depth perception, etc from a bummed eye, and still being able to take the fight... cmon GSP deserves some credit or Shields deserves less. Pick your poison

Hominick fought his heart out. But I wouldn't go as far as saying that Aldo is weak off of his back. He didn't get put on his back until there was 3 minutes left in the 5th round and by then u could tell he was dead tired. I like Aldo, but I was really pulling for Hominick to get lucky and knock him out because he fought as hard as anyone I have ever seen fight.

As far as the GSP/Shields fight, it was very boring to say the least, but here are a few things that people might overlook. This was the biggest event in UFC history, so the pressure for these 2 fights, especially for them to headline the event, was second to none. You could tell too. Go back and watch the beginning of the fight and just watch how Shields was acting when GSP came in to the octagon. People can say that GSP should be use to the pressure for fighting in so many title fights, but there has never been an event half as big as this one, literally. With their fighting styles, everyone should have seen this one coming.

You could tell Shields worked a lot on his stand up for this fight, and IMO, his stand up defense and GSP's lack of a killer instinct is obviously what made this fight so boring. GSP was going for the knockout with all of the windmills he was throwing, but I guess he just couldn't time them perfect. Everyone knew that GSP wasn't going to try to wrestler Shields to the ground. He would have been stupid to do so, because that puts him right in Shields' element. When they announced this fight, everyone should have knew it was going to be boring.

IMO, GSP fought very smart. Yes, it sucked he didn't press Shields a lot more, but Shields gameplan was to get GSP to engage, then pull guard. So I thought he done very good by jumping in, throwing a couple of punches, then creating distance. I thought the first 2 rounds were pretty good, but when GSP got hit in the eye and lost his vision in his left eye, the fight started going downhill. At that point, you could tell he was a lot more cautious with engaging. The thing that sucks the most is he had a good gameplan, executed it for the most part, won against a hell of an opponent and did it convincingly with one eye for 3 rounds, and no one will say anything good about it. One thing is certain, he now knows how Koscheck felt.

All in all, it was a good card. I enjoyed a lot of the fights tonight. And I really thought it was funny when GSP was complaining about not being able to see and Greg Jackson said it's ok, u still have one left, lol. And can someone please tell me which 2 rounds GSP lost? Shields did have octagon control, but he ate a hell of a lot of jabs to get it.

Jake Shields eyes were fine and still couldnt finish GSP. YES GSP didnt put on a good fight, JAKE SHIELDS didnt either. Just my opinion

I agree, the difference is that Jake sheilds has terrible standup and everyone knew that but GSP is supposed to be awesome in that dept. and he wasn't. Jake gets credit for more effort considering he was fighting out of his element and holding his own even with really bad striking he kept on coming. If it went to the ground he would have been critisized if he didn't go for submissions or show good grappling. GSP was supposed to make mince meat outta Sheilds on the feet and he just simply didn't and even came out worse for damage.

if gsp does grow some nuts and moves up to 185 he will be very easily exposed by AS if jake messed him up that bad and is known for poorish stand up what will the middle weight champion do? AS is now without doubt the numero uno guy in the world and GSP solidified that last night, i see this fight not happening and if it does i honestly think AS will play with him and outclass him every round and not even try and finish the fight, well done GSP but far from being the best P4P fighter in the world, not finished a fight in ages, how is he supposed to beat AS

It's absolutely incredible to see so much critisism of GSP. So little insight as to what it takes to beat the worlds best grappler in your weight class with an eye injury.

Defending a title and challenging for a title take different strategies.

It may be informative for some of these arm chair experts in Couch-Fu to spar with an eye patch.

The strategy for fighting with a bad eye and the tactics employed within that strategy will have to be different to the pre-fight strategy and the alternative / eventuality strategies planned prior to the fight.

GSP did well to adapt. Or does a couch fu master know better?

Fact is that GSP retained his title against an unbeaten multi organizational champion who knocked out Dan Hendersson.

These boo's are more likely to be coming from Friday night fighters than from people who have trained seriously and know the life of pain endured by a fighter in order to fulfill their dream.

GSP was not exciting in this fight, yes it was disappointing, it didn't live up to expectation. Lets not deny the evidence, in the top levels of mma the win margin is a matter of inches, its the same in football, sprinting etc... GSP is winning the best by inches which seems to prove that point, doesn't it?

I look forward to some serious feedback from people who put themselves on the line for the sport they love. If you don't train then don't comment on my post.

    Thanks

Henderson's next opponent should use Henderson's hair as a grappling hook.

If he is allowed to wear it at that length and it acts as a defense against chokes (and the promotion and the ref don't have any issues with the length and that it does act as an advantage against chokes), then I say his opponents should be able to grab hold of it; ala Gracie vs. Kimo.

If anything the hair helps his opponents when it comes to chokes. I have had long hair and it makes it harder to get out of guillotines and triangle chokes. I don't think it has any impact on rnc, anaconda or D'Arce chokes or arm triangles or gogo and loco platas.
