I believe Shields stand up is so bad that GSP knew he could take some punishment so he could use that as a subliminal excuse as to why he should not fight Anderson because IT WOULD EQUATE TO A COMPLETE MISMATCH.

GSP could have put him out of there in the first round and did not throw many hooks on purpose when they were there all night long. He just kept throwing that wild looping right that never really worked when I have seen him throwing very good right hands with Freddie Roach. That performance seemed a bit staged to me...

yes daiz first for gsp ! if gsp can stand with diaz and take him apart with even a tko combo ! put him in with silva only none title fight . than that would prove who is pound for pound champ ! only if gsp takes apart diaz first !

I agree, Fitch deserves it and AS is too much for GSP. Mentally GSP seems he would fall apart against AS. Fitch and then Diaz IMO.

I been saying Fitch for a while now, BUT with Diaz as a possiblity now and GSP feeling the pressure to finish fights, this could be the fight ive been waiting for years. Just think of Diaz vs GSP where gsp wants to actually fight and finish his opponent instead of just lay on them. Epic ! Better then getting his butt handed to him by AS and destroying his legacy in my opinion :P

I voted Anderson Silva, not necessarily because I think he deserves to move to middleweight and get a title shot. I want him to fight Anderson to wake him up....

GSP is so freaking talented but he continuously plays it safe, I miss the days when he used to fight to finish - See GSP vs. Sherk, Hughes, Trigg.

I'm a loyal GSP fan but tonight I wasn't impressed with his performance - good job to Shields though for making the fight competitive on the feet when his bread and butter is on the mat.

I have to disagree... As much as I enjoy watching Diaz as opposed to the main event I saw tonight, GSP would just out wrestle Nick for another five-rounder.

Anderson vs GSP would be a waste of time, but if Dana wants to punish him for not being able to finish his fights, he should definitely give him Anderson Silva or maybe even Diaz.

Nick Diaz would be the perfect test for GSP.

    Really?

I think GSP would be a problem for Anderson cos he doesn't move forward enough. Anderson is devastating in the counter punch but George never really commits himself and goes in there swigging.

Not to mention I think Anderson would have a real tough time dealing with GSP's wrestling.

i think diaz would have to beat at least one top five guy at 170 before he would deserve the chance. koshceck -fitch-alves quite frankly would most likely all beat diaz. if they gave diaz a free ride to the title expect a five round gnp/top control clinic with gsp the easy victor.

My thoughts as well... Truth is, on paper its an awesome fight. Diaz is a bad boy, who likes to take risks and test his opponent's strengths, even if he could easily exploit their weaknesses. GSP, on the other hand, is the perfect nice guy, who takes little risk and always avoids his opponent's strong points. With that said, GSP would do just that, attack Nick's wrestling deficit and win a decision.

Your spot on Silva is a more interesting fight, it's been a while since i've watched a GSP fight thinking he might loose, and GSP V Silva offers that. Diaz would suffer the same fate as everyone else GSP has fought imo. I actually think Diaz v Fitch would be a pick em fight.

    mayhem vs shields 2

    fitch vs mardquart

diaz vs (whomever has the best performance from the above)

    gsp vs (best of above)

never rule out a rematch, as big a gsp fan i think fitch has been the closest to defeating gsp, sometimes, it takes that testing of water to see how the river flows and fitch might have worked out what to do to defeat him next time

this fight showed that gsp would get destroted by anderson silva. and as for who his next opponent is, who cares? this is starting to get ridiculouse. the whole card was amazing until gsp ruined it, the main event is supposed to be the best fight, not the worst, so much for greatest fight ever eh george.

Look Nick's got a great chin and fantastic hands but come on. He's not beaten anyone good enough to be considered someone who is a legitimate threat to GSP. We don't know how good his wrestling is, we've never seen him up against a really skilled BJJ artist and we've not really seen him take on a really good elusive counter striker. GSP is all of those things and has beaten people who I think would walk through most of the people Nick's got wins over. Moreover I wager most of the guys under GSP in the division could probably give Nick a good match.

C'mon Silva v GSP is the fight that has to happen

Nick Diaz all the way, I think Nick will be the one to take gsp's belt actually.Saying Nick hasnt fought anyone is bogus, gsp would have his reach advantage nullified against diaz for one thing. And Nick is a bjj guy too. Thats the fight I wanna see.

Sorry guys, the Silva fight shouldn't happen. What's the point? Silva is a natural heavyweight, he'd obliterate GSP. Like I stated on another article, it would be like Pacquiao fighting Klitschko.

I don't even know why it's labeled a super fight.

Here's the way I see it for the Diaz match up: GSP takes down Nick in all five rounds. Diaz fails to land anything significant because of the take downs. Nick attempts various submissions off his back but also fails -- thus leading to him to being completely drained by the third round. Fight is over. Another decision win for GSP.

Fitch is the #2 welterweight in the world, and Alves is #3. These two are the only threats to GSP in the welterweight division. In my own opinion, these two are the only fighters (at this point) who can beat GSP.

Fitch needs to redeem himself in another fight after the Penn draw. Although he dominated in the 3rd round, it did not make a case for getting a rematch with GSP.

Anderson Silva might happen eventually, but the fight that is most possible, is a battle of the champions from each fomerly competing promotion.

I have heard fans vehemently argue cases for both Diaz and GSP walking away with the belt. I have made no secret that I favor GSP to beat Diaz--but this does not mean that Diaz has no chance--Diaz has as good of a chance as any WW of defeating GSP. Diaz is a triathlete, and has sick cardio as does GSP. I doubt Diaz will get knocked out or submitted by GSP--not because GSP will not be trying hard to do that, but because Diaz has an iron chin and an excellent BJJ game.

Diaz keeps very busy on his feet peppering alternating light shots with surprising heavy shots. He is in your face aggressive--and who knows whether he catches GSP?

I think Diaz is a worthy opponent for GSP at WW and a promotable and , and Fitch and Alves have to prove they deserve another shot at the champ--that in a rematch they will be different fighters.

If Diaz can't beat GSP I think there are other fighters, like Rick Story or Anthony Johnson who would be new and credible threats to GSP's belt.
