Fitch is one of my favourite fighters as may be surprising but I feel BJ is a bad match for him stylistically. It should be a good fight if it goes down but It will be a nightmare on the feet for Fitch, I hope he wins so he gets his deserved rematch though.
yes i agree. penn has better hands . i hope penn comes out talkn too his self swearing! lol! thats when penn is good! i hope gsp is still in welter weight! i want too see penn fight gsp again
First of all, Fitch got KO'd early in his career by Wilson Goeveia.
The guys that beat BJ are almost all strong wrestlers, and used their wrestling effectively to dictate their fights against him. (GSP, Hughes, Edgar) Fitch has very good striking, although you don't see it much. He won the few stand up exchanges that he had with Thiago Alves, who some regard as the best striker in the WW division.
Also, GSP has said on more than one occasion that Fitch was the toughest fighter he has ever faced. Fitch gets underestimated because he is not flashy, but the truth is that he is a very well rounded fighter - good striking, BJJ blackbelt, great wrestling, good chin, damn near impossible to submit. He is much bigger and stronger than BJ as well.
BJ Penn is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get with him. He might KO a legend in 20 seconds, or he might lose a decision to a guy everyone thought he would destroy. Fitch is the exact opposite. He is going to take his opponent down, keep him down, and beat him up. This has happened in all of his UFC fights except vs GSP.
I think he will win another dominant Fitch-style decision.
Agree 100%, I really hope Penn can do it. I HATE watching Jon Fitch fight. Every time he does, I'm thinking that it may finally be the fight to be exciting and it sucks. What is worse is that he always claims he is going to finish the other fighter which is ridiculous. His last 8 fights have gone to a decision...8 IN A ROW! Boring. When you have no reason to think that Fitch will finish an opponent, it makes the fight even more boring.
u know ur correct! fitch is a wrestler! gsp was like that at 1 point ! but now gsp gots his little bit of boxing and his jabs are pretty good! i bet if gsp was to stand up with penn that would be a good fight! i do think penn can beat gsp! he did it the first time!
It all depends on which BJ shows up. I like the idea of him getting a sub from the bottom though. I love watching grinders gets subbed. Fitch really is a boring fighter. For a guys with so many wins, his lack of a highlight reel really shows what a wet blanket grinder he is.
I want BJ to win but I think it will be another Fitch decision. If Fitch does win and he doesn't get a title shot he needs to leave the UFC. It will be time for him to ride out his contract and go to SF where he will be treated better. I honestly think Dana is hoping for BJ to KO Fitch in the first round so he can wash his hands of the guy.
I also feel really bad for Fitch. He has beaten 5 guys in a row since GSP beat him and he still doesn't get a title shot without first (at least) beating a guy that GSP scarred down to LW who only has one recent fight at WW against Matt who cares Hughes. Meanwhile, Kos got a title shot after a three win streak against Frank Trigg, Anthony Johnson and Paul Daley?!?! It's BS.
I agree, It should have been Fitch on TUF not Kos but I understand why they wanted a big mouth. Fitch and GSP would probably be watching TV together and playing pool up until their fight.
So pissed about Condit being out. That was bound to be a ****ing amazing fight, and a seriously important one in light of both he and Lytle's recent successes. Ugh, hope it gets rescheduled for soon, that one needs to happen, for the fans and for the rankings.
i actually see this being a super interesting fight.
jon has probably been focusing on his weakest area (stand up)
but he's going to want to use his best areas (wrestling takedowns, control, and bjj) against bj.
bj however will have great take down defense, as well as great submission offense and defense.
i see this being a possibly highly entertaining bjj battle.
if either submits the other, i'll be shocked since both have such great defense.
if fitch can't get bj down, we may have an interesting stand up battle on our hands since fitch has only been ko'd via a knee on a shotty shoot in.
power vs chin
might be illogical to say, but if gsp couldn't finish fitch, i don't see bj finishing him either. i could be wrong though.
all i'm saying is that i think a lot of fitch's fights are boring is that he's such a stronger and better wrestler than everyone, that he takes them down and lands elbows, but the guy on bottom is solely grabbing on, controlling posture and trying to survive. guys like that are tough to finish.
however bj, someone on his level, this will be interesting.
very similar to frankie vs gray.
and even though he got stomped, fitch v. gsp was an awesome fight. i've rarely seen such heart.
I have always been a fan of Fitch--which is a risky thing to be on most MMA boards. I remember UFC 100, the fight with Paulo Thiago, a BJJ blackbelt--and he had Fitch in some crazy chokes--and Fitch would not be submitted. At the end of the third round, Paulo was on his stomach, flattened out, and Fitch had him in an RNC--but the bell sounded seconds before Paulo had to tap. Paulo couldn't even get up after the fight ended, and sat against the cage--completely sapped--and defeated.
I remember watching Randy Johnson pitch a no-hitter, and some friends with me complained that it was boring, but to me, it was a beautiful sight.
The difference between WWE and MMA is that MMA is a real sport. In a real sport, the win always comes first, then the entertainment. Some games are not as exciting as others--for a variety of reasons, but you never hear a reporter complaining to an NBA center--yeah, you got the win, but the game was so boring. Only in MMA.
i just want to address this Jon Fitch situation. just because he hasn't been able to finish a fighter in a while doesn't mean he deserves to be hated. there's waaaay to many Fitch haters for how talented, polite, and modest he is. hes just too good at controlling people and he doesn't take too many risks. Fitch is getting less damage done to his body than almost any fighter. hes gonna be able to do this shit forever. nobody besides gsp can hurt this guy. hes gonna be the next randy couture. hes gonna be 50 years old and in line for a title short or holding a belt. having said that, BJ Penn is the worst possible matchup for Fitch besides GSP.

Should be real good fight.I think BJ will be the first guy to finish fitch.maybe even by sub

Its up to Penn to make this fight interesting, cause Ol Filthy Fitch hump-hugging grind & ground pound style of fighter is as boring as it gets

Exactly what I think. Except I like Fitch.
I like Fitch, I just like BJ better. I think Fitch is one of the best out there and you can learn a lot by watching him.

Yeah, after UFC 100 Alves, Fitch, and GSP went out drinking together and got bombed.
Hoping for another highlight reel knockout of Bitchping. So sick of looking at his mug.

I smell a surprising ending for this fight. Fitch by (T)KO, round 3.
