UFC 125 Results: Thiago Silva dominates Brandon Vera, wins via Unanimous Decision
Posted on January 1, 2011, 10:51 PM by Anton GurevichBrazilian knockout artist Thiago Silva won "The Battle of Comebacks" at UFC 125, defeating Brandon "The Truth" Vera via a dominant Unanimous Decision. Vera was unable to execute his gameplan, as Silva completely disables his striking game throughout the fight.
Every round opened with a short striking session, but then it was Thiago Silva who proved himself a more well-rounded fighter, by clinching and taking Brandon Vera down at will. On the ground, Vera had nothing to sell, giving Thiago Silva an opportunity to punch him at will. The crowd booed, but it was a too risky for both fighters, and Thiago Silva who played it smartest out of the two.
In the end, Silva got a clear 30-26, 30-27, 30-27 Unanimous Decision. Brandon Vera got himself a broken nose, and a possibility of getting cut from the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

LnP is like HIV, ones you get f.ck by it it stays with you.
Thanks to Rashad Thiago has it now, so sad since Thiago was such an exciting fighter.
I wouldnt say Silva LnP'd....he landed alot of shots from top n was changing position alot
how did Silva lay and pray?, he was passing guard and landing some really great shots he landed some vicious punches from Vera's back and half guard
He was vicously striking him on the ground
Pretty sure thats against the mentality of LnP
Plus ridiculing Vera for just sitting there and taking it, breaking his nose, and bitch slapping him dont sound like common LnP tactics either
If Dana cuts Vera, I think he will do him a huge favor. I really don't see Vera beating anyone in the UFC LHW division at this point. I can honestly say that I really feel bad for the guy.
Vera has sick stand up, shouldnt be cut...he needs to work on his wrestling alot tho
Vera wrestling is good. Honestly nobody thought thiago was going to wrestle and obviously Brandon didnt. Look at the couture fight he held his own. But that was an impressive performance by Silva
i suppose vera winning both the light heavy and heavyweight titles will be put on hold while he sorts his nose out!! dreamer
What like you dreaming about wishing you were a fighter not just sitting on your fat ass throwing insults at people that actually do it.
By the way, Thiago looked really strong tonight. It looks like he's been doing some wrestling.
...###-K
He's done, now. He'll be cut, for sure.
He's a very talented fighter, he just can't seem to put it together; shame.
Good for Thiago; he's a beast.
i've never liked vera and i've never understood why anyone would consider him top 10. true, he was doing well a few years back when he used to just go in there and use his muay thai skills, but he has no takedown defense and doesn't like getting hit. he's supposed to have a brown belt in jiu jitsu and all he did was let silva lay on him and pummel his face or smack him on the ass. he either needs to change weight class or leave the ufc cus he can't hack it in there stacked 205 division.
I haven't followed Vera's career as closely as yourself, but as soon as he was taken down and I dare say outclassed on the ground, he looked as if he no longer wanted any part of fighting. He made almost no effort to get back to his fight or resist much at all. His stand up looked great - I think he may have even landed more clean shots on Silva, but Silva fought smart and put him into positions where Vera had no chance.
i want to see hm and rampage go at it
...agreed.
silva obviously came to win
thiagos showboating put me off him, even with a broken nose vera was smilin' for the big screens gotta love the guy
Silva vs Rampage would be so sick
i think silva is gonna work a lot on his wrestling if that fight happen.ahhahaha
Vera's nose got bitch slap busted.
After Silva got tired of slapping vera in the back of the head, he drummed on Brandon's back! LMAO Vera needs work...
Poor Vera, 2 injuries in 2 fights and about to get cut.
hope he caped the number of his facedoctore... ^^
Sup with all these nuthuggers?
Sure Silva "won" in exchange for the many fans he let down by his LnP.
Win or Lose, Clay Guida comes out and fights for US,the fans! In my book, he the biggest winner of them all.
It was good ground and pound dummy... Silva was double
axe hammer fisting son.... jeez palm strikes bitch smacks.
He moved his nose over 2 inches, ON THE GROUND.
you need to go to a kickboxing site or K1 and stay the hell
off MMA forums jack ass.
Silva was fat... He is lucky that vera wrestling sucks couse he was so slow.... Anyway event was brilliant tonight....
LOL i would love to be as huge and fat as Silva !
I would see ya at the local bar and smash your face then cut your throat.
Vera looks like he did not once train a bad position on the ground in training. That was brutal.
This will probably put a damper on Vera's quest to be both the LHW and HW champ, HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!
Just go away Vera
so Disapointed Vera didnt even try....Dude is so much better than that....move around and kill the muay thai. Im disgusted when the hometown boys go down without and effort. If thiago was that overwhelming I can see but vera looked like a time killer.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again, a HEALTHY Thiago, is a championship caliber fighter.
Vera should pack on a lot of muscle ala Alistair Overeem and go back up to HW. With his striking skills and some takedown defence he could be a wrecking machine If he was BIG. He was much better at HW he just needs some size. LHW is too tallent rich for him.
i personally belive vera was expecting a stand up war and didnt work enough on his ground game this fight. he will be back hes a still a great fighter.
Vera should hit the horse meat diet and move up to HW. I don't think he could be top dog there but I see him in the top three if he can perform like he used to. He's almost exactly like Overeem in the early days. And the Demolition Man moved up in weight.
"I am not an Animal!"
Brandon Vera could retire after this latest beating. The fight was an embarrassment Thiago totally dominated him on the ground But standing up Vera has the edge. What I don't understand is Vera is suppose to be a high caliber wrestler so why could he not stop Thiago's takedowns? If Vera is going to continue to fight he needs to find a better team.
Being a great striker and a great wrestler is of no use if you only master them seperately. We have just seen what happens in MMA when you fight in a normal Muay Thai stance against someonhe trying to take you down. It might make you look good while standing up, but it sure doesn't stay there very long.
Very impressed with Thiago, great comeback after the loss to rashard.
Vera really needs to take a step back assess whats been going wrong, i think he has to start training with another team, get some fresh ideas and start rebuilding, or he will end up being cut.
