Thats bullshit since when does someone get a title shot for tapping out
true
apparently Silva asked for this fight, if that's true or not I'm excited for this fight, only ppl who don't wnt to watch this are Silva fans cause they don't wnt Silva to lose
I agree it was a clean win with no controversy. You could compare it to Carwin vs Lesnar and say Carwin deserves a rematch for almost beating Brock then. As much as I like Sonnen he should have to climb the ladder again.
If Silva is the best then there's nothing to worry about right? yeah... Silva fans and Sonnen haters are scared knowing what Sonnen can do. If Sonnen is more aware of the subs then he will finish the job the second time around.
Maynard and Edgar are similar and good at what they do but Edgar is more exciting to watch. No one wants to see Maynard. I'd rather see BJ or Kenflo as champ but if Edgar is way cooler than Maynard, that's for sure.
No, what people don't like about it is that for and immediate rematch there should have to be controversy over the decision to warrant it e.g. Rua v Machida or as in Penn v Edgar, a very close fight where the challenger takes the belt from the champ. There is no controversy when you tap out even if you were the dominate fighter for 4.5 rounds. How fair is it to all the other MW contenders that they don't get a chance for the belt because someone with a 4-4 UFC record put up a good fight vs. the champ but ultimately lost?!? It's not like this is the first time we've seen Sonnen be susceptible to submissions either, out of the 4 UFC losses all 4 were by submission with 3 of them were by a triangle choke which is the same way Silva finished him. Most fighters are lucky to still retain their job in the UFC with a .500 record after 8 fights when they get beat the same exact way every time and have never even finished a fight in the octagon unless they are the one getting finished, yet somehow Sonnen is deserving of an immediate rematch? So if you think Sonnen deserves an immediate rematch before other title contenders, you need to go to the psychologist because your delusional my friend. Sonnen should have to re-climb the latter just like everyone before him who losses to the current belt holder.
sonnen silva sells simple. UFC is in the business of making money. It cares little for integrity or respect or any virtuous aspect that one might aspire to. It makes money and that is that. While it runs itself this way it delegitimises itself and the titles. Brock is a ppv machine but near bottom of any p4p list.
Edgar vs Maynard has the makings of a spoonfest although if Frankie Edgar can utilize his speed and avoid takedowns then it should be interesting. I would only buy this fight though if it were surrounded with a good card of fights.
maynards to powerful for him and size comes in top play maynard will win bcuz edgar will be on his back the whole fight. and silva sonned rematch is wat every one wants to see silva or sonnen fight i wanna see if this silva is beatable
Frankie Edgar fighting style is so uniqe, I don't understand why ppls hate him... He is a real mixed martial artists who have all: very good boxing, strong kicks, very original takedowns and he mixing them all its sick.... I really intresting How much Frankie is improved since Maynard fight?..
Chael Sonnen is also beast he showed his strinking abilitys and I was shocked can't wait for this event !!!!
Totally agree. I thought only GSP has ever put in a better performance than that. Top top level in every MMA department against a fighter many rank highly in p4p terms. He isnt a devastating finisher, but so what. MMA is about control. And he controlled that fight for the vast majority against someone no other LW has ever done. It was astoundingly good but people wanna see blood and facial damage and KO's. It seems they care little for skill.

not to exciting for maynard and edgar but silva and sonnen is going to be one of the most anticipated fights of 2011, its going to answer a load of questions
they had to throw silva vs sonnen into this card because no1 would buy Edgar vs Maynard
Id rather watch edgar fight than almost any other fighter after that performance. Do you watch to see your WWE hero Brock or just to see blood?
If you wanna see skill Edgar has it in abundance. Absolutely brilliant is not enough to fully describe how good he was against Penn. And you make comments like that griffin. You are a fool.
Even though i like Cheal ,he does'nt deserve a rematch straight away, but it should be a good fight .
I think Frankie and Maynard's wrestling will cancel each other out and both fighters will stand.Defo going to a decision either way....
I don't know why so many people question the silva/sonnen rematch.......there's no one else in the MW division! lol I find it funny too that ppl won't question why Belfort would become the no. 1 contender if he beats Okami....which would give him only 1 win! So yea sonnen lost, but he smacked silva around.....that was a great fight, and I expect an absolute war when they fight again. idk about u guys......but I don't wanna see silva beat belfort/okami and retire before gettin smacked up again by sonnen.
btw, I'm not a Sonnen fan....in fact I don't like him lol. I'm waiting for wanderlei to come back and go to war with whoever is left in that division lol
People wouldnt mind Silva vs Belfort because of the prospect of a stand up war between fantastic strikers. We already saw the war between Sonnen and Silva and although it was one of the best MMA moments ever (at least for me), it was so because of the emotion around the fight, it was because of the dramatic result, it wasnt because of the technique desplayed through out the fight.
People like the Belfort fight because of the promise of a high level striking match, dodging and blocking blows, people would really like to see someone challenge Silva in a striking match since no one came close yet. Sonnen did a fantastic fight, he show cased the power of wrestling and the effectiveness of it against a high level striker. He was choked out thou, even thou the fight happened better than Sonnen could had wished.
A rematch can only have two results: Silva has trained better, defends the takedowns and blasts Sonnen quickly or Sonnen does the same as in the first fight and wins by decision - we all saw he cant finish Silva. That isnt what want to see, I can understand people new to MMA wanting to see that but a hardcore fan like me would prefer Belfort or another high level striker...
Chael is going to get so dominated this time around! He had major trouble trying to finish an already injured Silva for almost 5 rounds and couldn't get the job done! What makes you fools think that he can get it done when Anderson Silva is all the way better and in great health? And don't you people think that Silva isn't going to let Chael take him down this time around considering that was his game plan last time, he wll see it coming and stop the take downs. There is no way and I mean no way Sonnen is going to repeat that performance, don't you think Silva has reviewed that tape like 1,000 times and seen when he shoots and see when he fades? Come on people we all know that Sonnen isn't going to do the same thing again, so why live in a dream and think that he is. I just gave you all the reasons why Chael is going to get dominated, now give me some reasons why he is not? Even Silva finished him with broke ribs, what you think Silva is going to do to him with excellent health and in really good condition? Probably **** his world up huh? Chael took the injury and used it to make him self look dominate when in reality the only thing that Sonnen dominated was an already injured opponet which wasn't hard to do when he already had broken ribs, it's not like Silva was injury free, walked into the Cage, and got dominated, then I would of been like whoa let's give this guy an automatic rematch, and see if he can finish him, but the bottom line is, if he can't finish him while he is injured, he can't when he is 100% and damn I feel sorry for Sonnen coming into the second fight, he's gonna get ****ed up! Sorry Sonnen fans but that's the way it's going!
I dont really buy into the broke ribs at all. they weren't broke otherwise the fight wouldn't have been allowed.
bruised maybe, but if they were a serious issue i doubt Silva would have fought, but I could be wrong, Silva dont often make excuses.
Anyway, after the first fight I aint calling anything second time around, as I thought Silva was a different league to Sonnen in terms of skill and that Sonnen would get muay thai kneed to oblivion in round 1. I was so wrong about that and props to Sonnen for giving it 100%.
This rematch nothing would surprise me. Sonnen didnt just take Silva down btw, he also chinned him clean but Silva has a great chin.
