"If Jake Shields should win against Martin Kampmann, it will probably be him next"

UFC President Dana White declared that if the promotion's newcomer Jake Shields will defeat the Danish Hitman Martin Kampmann at UFC 121 next week, he'll get a title shot against either Georges St. Pierre or Josh Koscheck. The news may upset Jon Fitch, who had his sights on another title shot, emphasized after a victory over Thiago Alves at UFC 117.

But the UFC 124 Press Conference was not only about Jake Shields. Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck continued their "one-sided" trash talk, promising an exciting bout in Montreal. Also, UFC Canada frontman Tom Wright revealed that the first UFC event in Toronto will take place sometime in the mid 2011. UFC 124 will take place at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on December 11th.

Should be a good fight. GSP says he's going where his opponent is weaker so we shall finally see some stand up from gsp. I dont think Jake shields will successfully take gsp to the ground but would be interesting seeing gsp on his back.

Interesting news though I think its not fair that there is no talk about Kampmann. In my opinion it would be cool to have the winner of the Kampmann vs Shields fight as the next title contender.

agree one hundred percent dana often has set a double standard in these type of situations bisping promised a title shot but hendo won no titile shot ,alves was also going to get a title shot if he won but fitch isnt and you can garauntee that if nelson had beat dos santos there would be no title shot

i agree, i mean fitch should get his shot he deserves it and then whoever wins this one(fitch vs gsp/kos) should fight the winner of that fight i think its a lil ****ed up that shield gets a shot right away when he just got into the ufc.

101% thats not posslible. This is what we would like to call overexageration, But i do agree with UrsBar cause if one is getting a title shot if he wins than it should be the same for the other guy

yeah mate i defintly agree. its all about what fight is likely to create more publicity. Nelson doesnt fill as many seats as dos santos would in a title shot and its a similar position with shields and kampmann. sadly kampmann is overlooked because shields created lots of publicity following his move from strikeforce to the ufc. Why do u think dan hardy got a title shot aswell, generates a tonne of publicity where i live (the u.k) and across europe however hardy no where near desered a title shot.

i hope Kampmann beats his ass so we can see fitch GSP rematch if he beats kos. Shields vs GSP would be such a boring match.... I think its time to move up to MW for GSP soon

Fitch is never getting a rematch because DW hates him. If I were Fitch I would go to Strike Force to fight Nick Diaz.

GSP seems really serious and determined...more than I've ever seen him. Pretty scary. Now he doesn't just seem to wanna win proffesionally...although his trainers tell him to do so. He seems to wanna batter Kos! This could be a disadvantage but I think it could be bad for Josh.

First - I think for White to be speculating on two fights that have yet to happen and then offering up outcomes and then a third fight (GSP v Shields), is stepping over the line. White is basically playing favorites, here. He likes GSP and he likes Shields...he can't stand Fitch and doesn't care about Kampmann. At least that's how it comes across.

Secondly - I'm not a huge fan of Fitch, he's a bore to watch, but that doesn't mean he should get what he's earned by victory. Since coming into the UFC Fitch has amassed an impressive 13 -1 record, with his only loss coming to The Champ. His one loss....was one of the most exciting fights of the year; certainly one of GSP's best fights; it was a great fight to watch - if you're a GSP fan.

With that said - what does Fitch have to do to get another shot at the title or simply a re-match with the champ (should GSP lose to JK).

What doesn't White remember about that fight? White shoots his mouth off about exciting fights...well Dana, GSP / Fitch was a great fight and I would certainly watch it again; would look forward to it.

If GSP wins - his next fight should be against the guy, who by record and deed, has earned it - John Fitch; not Shields or Kampmann. Again, I'm not a big Fitch fan, but fair-is-fair. Enough with the favoritism. White should put his personal feelings aside and give the man his fight. And if Fitch gets his head handed to him (again), then lesson learned to Fitch; no harm, no foul.

I agree with what you said on the "fair is fair" point. I really feel the same way. On the other hand, when you see no chance of a fighter improving much, (just a lttle) on his last performance then until that guy (having beaten all the others or not) is not worthy of a rematch. Why not? because of the "styles make fights theorum" When you get a champ like GSP you have to start thinking of new ways to beat him and it might not always be the supposed top contender. I'm not saying we should give anyone a chance. I'm just saying we should test each man's style to the best. That's how they did it in Pride...Sometimes to stupidity but ...erm...a halfway-point would be ideal. You seem like a clued-up bloke...What do you think?

    @ ACC

I understand what you are saying, but part of my point is that Fitch's best performance was against GSP; even though he lost. He was pushed and he fought back; admirably. If I put that into the "fair play" blender, along with Fitch's record, I think, know, he's earned the shot. and I would give him the winner of GSP / Koscheck.

However and with that said, I'm not sure Fitch wants that. If Koscheck were to win, Fitch would go running away from the bout and maybe (even) the division. If that were to be the case, then I'd say good riddance. If he wants to be champ of 170 or any division, you have to fight all challenger & comers - even if they are your friend(s) or team mate(s).

Also - if it's only one fight, man. It's not like a series of fights and were Fitch to win, he won't hold it long; if, even, defend if successfully one time.

Finally - I think GSP would like to give him the shot. GSP is a very fair fellow, a gentleman and a true competitor, he has a solid victory over JF and would probably be inclined to say...okay...if you want to try it on again and even the score...I won't refuse, you; it's only fair.

    Cheers for your post,

    Wing Chun

I agree. GSP wouldn't refuse the fight. GSP himself has acknowledged Fitch as his toughest opponent ever, and I think he'd like to match himself up against him to see which has improved more.

I also agree. I actually think Fitch would beat Sheilds though. Mayhem seemed awfully close in the ground game to finishing Sheilds and Sheilds was just barely able to grind out a win which in a grinding match I would pick Fitch.

I never thought of it that way but the reporter brings up a good point koschecks statement "Dont wanna lose to a french guy" is pretty racist. I think the country would be up in arms if a champion fighter had said that same thing about a black guy.

I dont think the excuss, about trying to sell seats, would fly if someone was saying stuff like that about black people.

I think he should get someone like John Finch or Bisping after Kampmann cause I think thats kinda early for a title shot :P

If he does win against K-man I think he would have a good chance against Kos if he wins.....*somehow* but GSP would definetly take him out with a submission.....

But if K-man does beat him than i think he should fight Finch
