This is sure sign Toney is getting scared. He's realised he needs a miracle to win this fight. Probably trying to save face by getting Couture in a boxing ring.
LMAO! Dude, u got to be kidding right? James Toney scared? Bwahahaha!
The moron making these statements is the promoter! He is looking for another avenue to create cash flow that is all. Like Toney is already a major attraction in MMA, he believes Coulture could do the same in boxing. That is all. I seriously doubt Toney would ever be scared to fight anyone specially Coulture.
I dont mean scared of Randy hurting him, I mean scared of Randy embarrassing him, maybe even spanking him in front of everyone. You are right though - these are only Goosen's words.
Its such a dumb thing, like boxing is in a way even with mma. Which is completely false, its even with say, wrestling, jiu jitsu or muay thai. MMA is the place where everything is allowed, so you find out who the ACTUAL best fighters are. Like the UFC says, its the ultimate proving ground for fighters, no matter what style, its the unbiased place to figure out who the very best is. Boxing is just a sport, like tennis, or karate.
Its JUST like randy couture challenging james toney to a wrestling match.
Couture has more knowledge of boxing than Toney does of BJJ, Wrestling, Muay Thai, Karate and Judo by about 100,000%. It would generate alot of money for Randy and boxing and it would be great if they had a duel in all martial arts to see who is the greatest warrior out of the two!
You have to give Toney credit for taking on a top level MMA fighter in his first UFC fight. Most people bashing him here have bought into the whole Boxing vs MMA fiasco. They are 2 entirely separate sports
which have no business together. Any boxing fans hating on MMA are ignorant of MMA and any MMA fans hating on boxing are ignorant of boxing.
Well, Dana is definitely setting him up fr failure. He wants to make a statement that boxers don't belong in the sport of MMA. If Toney ends up knocking Couture the **** out, Dana is going to look pretty stupid! LOL!
I guess Toney's trainer finally figured out that Toney is screwed come fight time, and is already looking to even the score on Toney's playing field once Toney gets embarrassed. If I remember correctly it is Toney making all the challenges and accusations that he will dominate as a boxer in MMA. I don't recall Couture making any such challenges to enter the boxing ring and beat Toney at his own game, and there is absoloutely no reason he should or would ever do so.
This says nothing about what Toney thinks nor about what Toney's trainer thinks. This is his *promoter* saying something to try and earn *himself* dollars.
To say what this idiot says represents what Toney thinks would be like saying when Dana White speaks that represents what Roy Nelson thinks. He is just Toney's promoter, and that's all. That being said, Toney is definitely going to get his a-s-s handed to him
I can't see why you were weaked for this comment. What is not true about what you said and how is it debateable other than speculation? Weakers just gotta weak?
This is ridiculous. It's just a fabricated way that they can still talk smack after Randy beats his ass. So they can think they can still say he's scared of him in some way. They'll try calling him names, and Randy will say "Look, I already beat his ass in a real fight. I have no reason to fight him with just my hands. He's the one saying he would ko me and he didn't. Why would I waste time and take time out of my true career to try and save James Toney's pride? If he didn't wanna get his ass beat he shouldn't have come here and run his mouth." Then Randy will walk away laughing all the way to the bank. James will keep blubbering and mumbling jibberish. And one of the Klitchko's will knock him out soon after. Or he hangs it up and admits he's done. Either way, the last important part of Toney's career in fighting overall will come when he gets a famous ass beating from Randy and gets his walking papers from the UFC.
I will really laugh if Randy KTFO's Toney with a big overhand right. That would just be the icing on the cake. It would settle the whole issue about challenging him to a boxing match if he KO's him using his boxing to begin with.
What a knob that guy is, Randy would not be so daft to box Toney in a ring. The fact is, Toney chased after Dana White to put him in a cage so he didn't have to fight the klitchko brothers. Toney laid down the challange, Couture accepted the challenge and he will take the win/lose or draw like a man.
ona side note...
The sheer state of that boxer they interviewed after that Dan 'my sport is dying' Goossen, shows how much damage a boxer takes compared to an mma fighter. The guy has a face like the elephant man, and sounds a bit spesh...
It wasn't Randy making a scene showing up at events, calling owners and fighters out, talking trash just to get a paycheck.
Unfortunately for Toney, Goosen and the rest of the lot, boxing is near dead because these same people milked and abused the sport for all it was worth. Greed for them was the driving force that fueled boxing not people spending hard earned money and getting little in return.
It sucks for them being on the opposite side of the new breakout sport that puts the fans and the fights they want to see ahead of everything else..
Here's a question - If JT hits RC, puts him down, but doesn't KO him...what's the plan? At that point does JT and every boxer (out there) realize that they have to... "wait" ... for their stunned and phased opponent to recover (at his leisure) and then get back up, giving them a second chance and new life?
Or will JT and every boxer (out there) quietly sigh to themselves...."damn, I wish I had a ground game....I'd finish that guy"?
From the other POV - Couture will be laying there saying to himself...."I have all the time in the world; this fool isn't going to follow me to the ground".
...Clear advantage RC.
If Toney doesn't KO Couture...on his feet...not phase, stun or hurt him...JT...or any boxer, would / will have - no chance...beyond that one chance.
Concluding - capjo...the only person who could assure James Toney any chance in this fight is the "myth maker" (himself), Philip Zelikow.
@WingChung, observant yea, wise...I'm not so sure ...lol
Toney's has only 1 game plan. he plans to knock Couture out or at least in his mind thats the way things are going to go. Obviously, Toney's cranial space is filled mostly with air :)
...good one with the Zelikow reference...ha...10 points!
that is so ridiculous why make a statement like that .. only reason is if u dont have faith in ur fighter n say that Randy cant box ... Randy said hes not a boxer ,Tony said hes an ultimate fighter so lets see if he is.. what a douchebags
this guy knows that james toney is going to lose miserably. coture would never in a million years take a boxing fight with anyone let alone james toney. that is absolutely retarded!
COTURE TAKING A BOXING FIGHT IS JUST AS STUPID AS TONEY TAKING THE MMA FIGHT. can't wait to see randy smash his face
something interesting would be toney fighting a world class muay thai fighter or kick boxer, chop him down and then get KTFO with a kick, that could take place on a ring
Good point about the money, but again, why would Randy do it - he's not a boxer. Toney thumping Couture in a boxing match, proving he's a better boxer then RC, would prove nothing. Randy's core skill is wrestling, not MMA. He has become an MMA fighter, to further his career. Is that not the same reason why Toney is stepping in to the Octagon?
A relative comparison, would be to ask Toney's promoter if he'd fight RC in a wrestling match? I don't see JT accepting. Subsequently, there would be no reason for RC to accept the fight, other then for money. Perhaps, it is this type of brain trust and logic, that has gotten boxing to where it is, today.
Toney, this promoter and boxing in general need to come to grips with the following - Boxing, as is wrestling, as is kick boxing, as is BJJ etc...are nothing more then components and subset skills, of the larger skill defined as - fighting, branded under the colloquialism of MMA.
When those associated with boxing be-moan MMA, they do so out of jealousy. And they do so as a result of their own failures, not MMA's or the UFC's, successes; they only have themselves to blame. Boxing has a storied history of corruption, dubious individuals and rigged bouts...and then they took it off (free) TV - bad move.
I definitely agree that he has nothing to gain fighting wise. It might look nice if he took the fight and won though haha. I doubt Randy could beat Toney at boxing but I'm sure he would give it his best shot. As far as money goes, you see those big time boxers get 15 or 20 million for a fight. Of course we have no real way of knowing but I'm sure Couture vs Toney would have to be good for at least 1 or 2 million per boxer. What do you think? If there was potential to make that in one fight, he would have to do it. That is way more than he would make in 1 fight in MMA.
What do I think of 1 or 2 million - not much; if that's the best that they could do with the marketing of that fight.
For the record - everyone expects RC to take him down and he probably will, but if I was cornering him, the game plan would be to hang outside and kick him, as effectively as RC can. What's Toney going to do about it?
My preference for this fight - would to have been to give it to Brandon Vera; easy win Vera.
That is stupid, Randy isn't a boxer. It seems like he thinks Toney is going to lose so to gain some self respect back he wants to have Toney beat him in some other sport where he has an advantage haha
that guy is the worst reporter ever..if u can even call him that.. i have no idea how the hell he still sticks around on fanhouse.. he should be fired and they should forbid that his name is ever associated with fanhouse again..
it will be stupid if couture do this, becaus he will get his ass whooped... and knock the **** out! sooo keep it to mma... toney is a pro boxer couture will NEVER win in boxing against james toney, and if he do this , some lights gona go out fo reall!
that man has jus talked the biggest load of monkey crap ive heard in a gud while.. toney wasent asked 2 come to mma,,he touched dana white and stalked him to dana said if u wana fight mma well lets see wat u got..and toney asked for randy.. y wud randy wana hav a boxing match wit toney??? randy is mma legend so it wud be pointless... u didnt see randy sayin he wants to go 2 boxing 2 fight him.. toney thinks he can do anyting but come 28th august wen its all said and done james toney will wish dat he stayed in boxing.. i think toney nos that mma is getn better than boxing.. lets face da only boxing fight dat every1 wud wana see is floyd v manny.which i hpe will happen.. but apart fom dat hu cares bout boxing.. there is far more mma fights ppl wana see than watch boring boxing!!!!
Tony might not be scared becuase he doesn't have the brains to be, but the people around him sure as hell are.
Also this promoter just shows his own ignorance of MMA, I mean Randy himself comes from Wrestling so maybe they should have 3 matches 1 MMA, 1 Wrestling and 1 Boxing? In any case what Tony is trying to prove is that boxing is the only technique you need to win, similar to the way the Gracies talk about BJJ and that the only reason boxers are dominating MMA is because no high level boxers are in MMA. It seems his promoter doesn't even understand the point Tony is trying to make.

This is pretty dumb seeing as Randy has said on multiple occasions that he is not a world class boxer. Why would he do this?
This is sure sign Toney is getting scared. He's realised he needs a miracle to win this fight. Probably trying to save face by getting Couture in a boxing ring.
@ Azzer12
Fight anyone!! Put him in the ring with brock or shane and watch his knees shake!!!
I dont mean scared of Randy hurting him, I mean scared of Randy embarrassing him, maybe even spanking him in front of everyone. You are right though - these are only Goosen's words.
@JP86
He asked for that fight against brock. I like to see him against Shane. With all fairness, Shane would have to share the juice!
Aw Rane... already pouring down with the steroid jokes hahaha! It's probably true though....
@japanegro23
Well, it's pretty f--- serious coming from the U.S Attorney's office.
Yea I know. You never want to believe this kind of stuff but I know in the past I've been let down by some athletes.
He needs to realize it was Toney who wanted to fight in the UFC, not the other way around. Boxers are the one's talking sh*t.

yeah Randy has said that they are two different sports...Toney is the one that said boxers can beat any MMA fighter even in a cage.....look Knoons
fight boxing and MMA and he has said they are two different beasts your stance and movements are different..... what are they comparing????
which is tougher? which is more difficult?
Exactly. I can't recall one MMA fighter saying that they could step into a boxing ring and defeat the best in their sport.
You have to give Toney credit for taking on a top level MMA fighter in his first UFC fight. Most people bashing him here have bought into the whole Boxing vs MMA fiasco. They are 2 entirely separate sports

Well, Dana is definitely setting him up fr failure. He wants to make a statement that boxers don't belong in the sport of MMA. If Toney ends up knocking Couture the **** out, Dana is going to look pretty stupid! LOL!
Anderson Silva did call out Roy Jones Jr. for a boxing bout
@Azzer12
Even with Roy being in his decline and having deminishinjg skills, He would beat Anderson without a problem.
anderson silva wants to fight roy jones
Yea I remember him saying that.

Why? Why would Couture want to do that? It would make no sense.
My advice to this promoter, should he wish to continue promoting fights - start promoting MMA.
...I hear there are new opportunities in Ontario; if he knows where Ontario is, that is.
I will really laugh if Randy KTFO's Toney with a big overhand right. That would just be the icing on the cake. It would settle the whole issue about challenging him to a boxing match if he KO's him using his boxing to begin with.

LOL at this. Toney stepped into the MMA world talking big shit. Randy didn't mouth off about boxers.

He would just match the money??? Thats weak. I think Couture should do it if they throw a boat load of money at him.
