Yahoo sports reports that James Toney, and Randy Couture are having a dispute as far as what weight they will be fighting on at UFC  118 in Boston on Aug 28.

Last Saturday James Toney told MMAjunkie  That the pro boxer vs MMA will be a “catch weight affair.”

This was countered today by Couture team saying that they have heard no such thing claiming that this fight will be at heavyweight. It was said during the initial negotiations for this fight.  The two would meet at a catch weight of 215 pounds.  Apparently the idea was scrapped.

Toney was quoted saying when he spoke to mmajunkie, "They want to make it easy for Randy," Toney said. "They're trying to please him. Whatever they want to do, we can do it."

Comments coming from Randy’s teams where that, "The Toney camp couldn't agree to a catch weight, and there's been no discussion about it thereafter," Randy’s teams also said today. "I suggest James Toney stop playing with dolls and focus on the fight."

Toney also said "I could fight at 205, but why should I?”.  "Me not being effective against Brock Lesnar? That's crazy. I fought Sam Peter. Sam Peter is bigger than he is. I fought Hasim Rahman. He's bigger than him. I fought John Ruiz. He's bigger than him.

"Everybody I fought the last eight or nine years is bigger than me. They outweighed me, and I never had a problem with it."

Randy Couture now 47 has an MMA record of 18-10 with his last wins coming at UFC 105, and UFC 109 over Mark Coleman, and Brandon Vera. James Toney 41 will make is MMA debut.  It is worth noting the Toney debuted in boxing at 160 pounds, he has fought as heavy as 237 pounds.  Toney holds a boxing record of 72-6-3

I dont get why James Toney is bringing up fights with "bigger" men then Brock when its Boxing.....Its not like Boxing has takedowns so being big doesnt do shit. James Toney needs a helmet

Toney's not doing himself any favors by fighting at heavyweight. An in shape Couture walks around at 225 to 230. The last time James Toney was in shape he was 185. So if he wants to carry 50 pounds of belly fat into the ring, why not let him?

This will be a waste of time. Couture will just smother him in a clinche, take him down and gnp? What's the point. He should at least fight a stand up fighter like cro cop or it will like watching velasquez vs congo

the idea is to show this fool that mma is a more complete form of fighting than boxing. toney thinks he can come in and run over everyone in mma. i hope randy takes him down and gnp him. it will teach him some respect for the sport

100% agree. It will be funny though to see how Toney reacts to Randy's "dirty boxing" against the cage. If the fight goes to the ground, Toney's skills will make Kimbo look like a Gracie.

I think it's a mistake to underestimate James Toney, especially with 4oz gloves on. There is a good chance that Randy gets clipped coming in by a guy who has even better punching accuracy and combination skills than Anderson Silva.

I think wrestling is a powerful martial art but so is boxing. Really this fight could go either way. Either Randy is clipped and finished or James is taken down and finished.

I'd expect toney. Nothing against randy, but boxing style hands do SERIOUS damage even in MMA, and when a man feels like he's so powerful it's not even fair, that confidence goes a long way.

Normal boxing gloves must feel like a handicap now and MMA gloves must feel like a huge buff. Much respect to randy win or lose as always

What happens if Toney wins? Surely DW wont just let him swan off saying "I told ya so!"
