After not making weight once again for his rematch with Jon Fitch Thiago "Pitbull" Alves knows hes in the hot seat. Many thought that after having continuous problems with his weight President Dana White would have no choice but to have Alves move to the 185 lb division. Thiago spoke to mmafightings Mike Chiappetta about what made Dana change his mind

“Dana said, 'You've got to make weight, otherwise we've got to move you to 185.

I told him, 'Just please give me another chance. I won't mess up again.' I didn't make excuses. I told him I thought I was there but I wasn't. I took full responsibility. It's not my coach or my camp, it's me. I just asked for another chance, and he said OK. But I know this is my last chance."

The Pitbull also told Mike why he didnt drop the extra half a pound and save 20% of his purse

"It was just a half-pound, so I'm sure my body could have flushed it out. But I didn't want to. I just wanted to concentrate on the fight. It was just easier for me to give up the money… When you're cutting weight and dehydrated, you don't always think right. In the future, that won't happen again. It can't happen again."

Although it may be hard to believe Alves since this is his second strike he knows that one more and hes out to the middleweight division with studs live Nate Marquardt, Chael Sonnen and Champ Anderson Silva.

Recenlty Thiago hired nutrition expert and former TUF contestant Mike Dolce who is also Rampage Jacksons cook to help him make weight. Only time will tell if we have seen the last of Alves at 170.

Making weight may not be the easiest thing, however, you have to do whatever it takes to get it done. I wish him luck and I hope to see him fight soon.

He is one of my favorite fighters.

I hope he makes weight because I do not like his chances against nate, chael or AS.

i believe he would do well in the middleweight devision he walks around 200+ pounds and cuts way too much for welterweight but in my opinion i believe that he would have a better training camp if he cuts to 185 this way he can focus more on his fight than cutting weight

I am not debating he can be big enough. I am stating I don't believe he will be good enough.

i think he can make weight he just needs to lose some of that muscle mass he may not be as powerfull as he is now. but he might fight better without having the drain of cutting so much weight and its definatley better than moving up to 185

when he came into the fight with hughes he looked HUGE,the fight with fitch he looked a bit drained and smaller. That probably has a lot to due with the long lay off
