Thiago Alves dominates John Howard in a clean Unanimous Decision victory
Posted on December 11, 2010, 09:47 PM by Anton GurevichFormer UFC Welterweight title challenger Thiago "Pitbull" Alves successfully bounced back from two consecutive defeats, by dominating John Howard at the UFC 124 main card opener. Refreshed Thiago Alves displayed sharp striking skills and great wrestling, leaving John Howard no chance to grind out something from the fight.
John Howard tried to stay toe-to-toe with Alves, but quickly realized that he has a reinvigorated "Pitbull" standing against him. When Howard tried to take down Alves, the Brazilian defended, and answered with a takedown of his own. Alves managed to put Howard in trouble on several occasions, but the detirmined "Doomsday" showed incredible chin and overall surviving skills, taking the fight to the distance.
Pure dominance by Alves earned him a clean 30-27 Unanimous Decision victory on the judges scorecards, improving his MMA record to 18-7. Alves will now start his climb back to the top of UFC Welterweight division, with sights on earning another title shot.

good fight too !
Possibly one of the best performances of his career, great to see him mixing strikes n takedowns hes becoming a complete MMA fighter
Alves could be a top contender if he keeps his conditioning smart
I agree, this was a strong performance by Alves. Whether this was due to his new diet or the fact that Howard is not on the same level from a wrestling perspective as either of Alves' last two opponents remains to be seen.
i would love to see him face dan hardy next and if he gets past him and keeps his weight down and conditioning up give him a tough wrestler to test if what his wrestling defence is really improved
Alves is no joke. His Mauy Thai is top notch. He would of done a LOT better if he fought GSP last night instead of Josh. His wrestling was awsome too! and he has better takedown defense as well.. Impressed! Not Bad!
Howard is a tough bastard, took many shots but got simply out classed and out wrestled
Alves just showed that he's on another level than Howard.
