Thiago Alves will meet Martin Kampmann in the main event of the UFC on FX 2 card, which is set to take place this Saturday in Sydney, Australia.

Alves is coming off a victory in his last bout, handing UFC newcomer Papy Abedi the first loss of his nine fight MMA career. For his part, Kampmann will also enter the fight coming off a victory, taking a decision over Rick Story at UFC 139.

Before defeating Abedi, Alves had gone 1-3 in his four previous fights, but despite that losing record he will enter the fight against Kampmann with a great deal of confidence, “It doesn’t matter where the fight goes. It’s going to be my fight. I’m very concerned with what I’m going to do to him. I’m going to try to break him whether it’s in the stand-up or on the ground. I have all the respect in the world for Martin Kampmann and his camp, but I truly believe that I’m going to break him, it doesn’t matter where the fight goes.” – for more see MMAWeekly.com

What do you think LowKick’ers, will Alves prove victorious over Kampmann?

I hope he does ! Alves has the smartest game plans usually !

Do you remember the fight with GSP ?

Journalist :" so you are famous for knocking people out"

Alves : " Yeah man ! Sometimes , I just feel like I want to hurt someone."

Journalist : "What will happen on saturday night ?"

Alves : "GSP is the man ! Im a big fan but I'll KNOCK HIM OUT .

Journalist : "How do you see it happen ?"

Alves : " I dont know man, I'm gonna KNOCK HIM OUT !"

Journalist :" Ok ! So what is your game plan ? "

Alves :" My game plan is To KNOCK HIM OUT "

I disagree. As long as he has Mike Dolce by his side and his weight cut goes according to plan, I'd favor Alves over most WW's in a 5 round fight for the interim belt. Diaz would be a tough fight for him probably, but besides that I like his chances.

I had not read what Alves said until you mentioned it in your post.

So I navigated to MMA Weekly and the Radio show--sure enough--he is quoted as saying what you posted.

He is self-deluded and living in cloud cukoo land.

You can picture the lumps, bumps and swollen shut eyes in the post fight interviews... Rogan will be squinting to tell them apart as he asks do you agree with the judges score cards...

Kampmann and Alves have 9 decisions and 2 submission results between them since their last respective fight ending in KO/TKO.

An interesting fact about these 2 elite UFC strikers... Kampmann's last win via KO/TKO came in January 2009 and Alves was even longer ago in June 2008.

Always entertaining but less likely than you'd think to end in a strike related stoppage... Still a fight of the night contender though!!

I have a lot of respect for Kampmann, he's a tough and very technical fighter and he's always a gamer right to the last minute. He's also got a great ground game which i think would actually be his best chance of beating Alves. Trouble is, Alves had solid TDD and is great at getting back to his feet when he does get taken down. Thiago is a beast on his feet and if Kampman can't get him to the ground i see Alves putting him in a lot of trouble and maybe even knocking him out. Kampmann is no pushover though so it will still be an exciting fight to watch.

Stats are good and they can be interesting but they can't predict the future, they are based on past fights after all, they can predict how a fight may go but not for certain. As we all know anything can happen on the night!!.......

Power vs technique is how I see this fight. Kampmann possibly one of the more underated WWs in the UFC and he's been on the wrong end of more than one decision in recent times. If he can avoid the power I expect him to pick Alves apart.
