The Sky is the Limit for Charles Oliviera
Posted on September 24, 2010, 09:59 AM by DragoUndefeated Brazilian Charles "do Bronx" Oliveira (14-0) his building up a reputation as one of the biggest rising stars in MMA. This 20 year old fighter seems unfazed by the pressure of fighting in the UFC amongst the best mixed martial artists in the world. After an impressive debut where he finished Darren Elkins in just 41 seconds via armbar, he got another impressive submission (this time with a standing rear naked choke in the third round) this time against TUF season 8 winner Efrain Escudero. Again the Brazilian put on a show, displaying great skills in striking, grappling and his submission game. Even more impressive than his fighting skills was the calmness he displayed during the fight, biding his time until he locked up a nasty standing "Mata-Leão" (which means Lion Killer in Portuguese and its the technical name for a rear naked shoke in BJJ). His coach Ericson Cardoso was more than happy with his display:
"It was amazing! The more gratifying was the fact he finished the fight with a move we have been trainning a lot, which is defending a single leg and automatically jumping for his back!"
Although Ericson was very pleased with the display of his pupil, he knows there's still a lot of work to be done in order to reach their main objective, the Lightweight Belt. Right now, even thou they don't know who will Charles be facing, their working on what he considers the weakest aspects of his game: his wrestling and the fact he needs to gain more muscle mass.
"We are on the right path, we just need to add and improve some aspects of his game. Nowadays, top MMA fighters are very strong in wrestling and thats something we need to improve. We have an advantage though, because Charles works very well off his guard and on his back. His striking is very good as well, we know we can improve it but he showed in his fight against Escudero he his a very high level striker! That said, whoever Charles fights next we will be prepared. If they want to stand and trade, Charles is more than ready. If they take the fight to the ground, we have been trainning that as well and Charles has a sick Triangle and Arm-Lock, not to mention hes crazy sweeps!"
Confidence is sky high at the Bronx Gold Team. Fighters and Coaches alike are confident in Charles ability to rise to the occasion and defeat whoever the UFC decides to put in front of him.

This kid is phenomenal, and certainly one to watch out for in 2011. If I were making the decisions, I would not hesitate to throw him in with top level guys because I think he is going far in this sport, and very soon.
i think he will be the jon jones of lightweight.. we will have to wait and see
(though is how to spell that word not thou!!!)
Oliveira is awesome. he has a really impressive skill set. his stand ups great and his submissions are so fast and clinical. definitely one to watch, hopefully he will get a good step up in competition for his next fight.
+ how can you not like a guy who throws double flying knees!
I like Oliviera. When I saw his first fight I said wow. But I said What about his striking. Then when he fought Escudero his striking looked fantastic. This kid is exciting, finishes fights, and gets bonuses for it. But I want to see more improvement in his takedown offence. No offence...
