Legendary PRIDE Lightweight Champion Takanori Gomi finally found his form inside the Octagon, after a devastating knockout victory over the UFC veteran Tyson Griffin. Both fighters measured up in an early exchange, but it was "The Fireball Kid" who landed a perfect right on Griffin's jaw.

Tyson Griffin landed like a sack of potatoes on the canvas, forcing the referee Jason Herzog to stop the contest after just 1:03 minute mark. Griffin protested for an early stoppage, but everyone at the SportsArena in San Diego agreed that Herzog stopped the action just in time.

At his post-fight interview, Takanori Gomi declared that he considers this fight as his debut in the UFC, after losing via Rear Naked Choke to Kenny Florian last March at UFC 21.

Tyson Griffin gets knocked out and bombarded then he refuses to shake hands with Gomi twice after the fight. WEAK show of class,

agreed. that is the worst thing any fighter can do, you need to show respect win or loose.

Finally, everybody said he was done after the Florian fight but this is wat a dedicated fireball kid can do, he stopped Griffin who no one ever has before

on top of that transition to the cage isnt as easy as it seems. getting a big flight right off the bat is rough for someone transitioning

Griffin had a perfect swan dive after that punch. It was brutal. I love Griffin but i think he has some tough work ahead of him. hes starting to look like another gate keeper in the lightweight division and not a title threat like I thought he was.

Did Tyson not watch the Evans vs Machida fight? Wrestlers cannot stand with strikers...period

Correction, wrestlers should stand up with GOOD strikers, not hacks that can only beat people who don't move out of the way of their punches.

great knockout!! notice the difference in Gomi's confidence compared to that of his fight vs Florian. I really like Tyson but the way he acted plus the fact that he lost again may probably cost him a contract if he doesnt rededicate himself to being his old winning "cool" self again.. Go Fireball Kid!

I'm a huge Gomi fan, and I wasn't very confident

about his chances against Tyson Griffin whom I consider to be

a great fighter. I couldn't be happier being wrong, Gomi deserved that win.

I wouldn't say he's back like some people do, but i'm rooting for him.

And nothing gives me more pleasure UFC wise, than the stupid USA USA chants being silenced.

I didnt think Tak lived up to his abilities in his fight with Kenny, I beleive that he was out of his comfort zone with the cage. My opinion but I beleive he could be a great gate keeper, maybe even hold the lw title

That was a hell of a punch, I'm happy that all the fighters I wanted to win did. I thought Gomi might have lost this one but I was cheering for him so people would stop calling him a hasbeen. I mean come on, his first fight in the UFC was against Kenny Florian, who is probably the number 3 in the division behind Edgar and Penn, and if you're not the kind to think one lose means BJ isn't the best, or that one win means Edgar is the best, you'd probably say Kenny is the number 2 behind Penn.
