Steven Seagal: Jon Jones is much better than that
Posted on September 25, 2011, 06:19 AM by Anton GurevichFront-kick extraordinaire, Steven Seagal, was at the PEPSI Center in Denver, Colorado, to support his "new project" Jon Jones in a fight with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. According to Seagal, Jon Jones is much better than that, despite having the best possible Rampage Jackson in the cage against him. Segal also discussed the possible bout between Jones and Anderson Silva, claiming he's not interested in seeing his friends fighting.

Pretty soon he's gonna start saying he invented mma.
As much as I liked him as an actor, I'm not disliking his "weirdo" personality...What's funny is that Ariel is playing along with some of his odd statements and even encouraging to make a fool of himself...
Seagal is attaching himself to fighters like a leech
Hi!!!! Sensei Steven Seagal
absolutely sick to death of hearing what this man has to say. granted he has done so much for his discipline, and should be given the respect he deserves for it, but for him to be claiming the front kick as his kick that he's been perfecting.... it's ridiculous. MMA Media stop giving this man a time of day.
Non-sense. I always enjoy what he has to say. And as to "his" claim... it isn't just "his." A current UFC champion and a former champion (Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida) both claim that Seagal helped them perfect that kick so they could destroy their opponents swiftly with it (which they both subsequently did). If you can't respect that, then you're just a hater.
jsnwht ... what the **** man. Segall is a ****in clown, he pretends to be some crazy visionary who can read the future and the guy is just a fat washed up turd. How can he say people performed poorly at ufc 135!? Id love to see him get in the cage and gas after just touching gloves with his opponent!
I enjoy it to, because its so f***ing stupid...
why am i a 'hater'? i gave the man his respect for his accomplishments, read the comment properly.
i think we're all aware of anderson, and machida stating that he'd helped them with "the kick", so you're pretty much using facts that everyone on here knows, but doesn't need to bring up as it's common knowledge.
you don't see phil nurse, or any other trainer involved in jon 'bones' jone's camp giving interview's talking about how they taught him a certain kick, or punch.
the man's accomplishments are fantastic, and he should be very proud of himself for them, but when he's there giving an interview taking time up that could be given to a fighter who fought that night, needing the exposure, and went to war in the octagon it becomes a joke.
;)
I agree! He mentioned he's not interested in seeing his friends fight, well shucks, we're not interested in seeing Him try to take credit for other people's wins, strange how it doesn't stop him.
Sad to post this, used to love his movies, brutha needs a side job, he seams desperate.
He never tries to take credit for other people's wins. He said he didn't help Jones with this win at all, for instance. He has taken credit for helping Machida and Silva win, but that is because they gave credit to him. Would you rather him refuse credit and call his friends and students liars?
What's with all the haters on this board. Jealousy I guess.
are you his publicist?
its a f*ckin publicity stunt! seagul probably paid anderson and machida to say that, anyone who beleives in this seagul shit ,calling people haters for not believing him, are complete idiots^. period.
Seems like no one wants to give Ariel Helwani a interview anymore.
"I have been a fighter all my life..."
yeah!! on the movie screen dumbass!!!
or maybe he is the most unknown streetfighter in the world...
seems that he has taken a lot of punishment to the head though....
get some new glasses bro
It's true... Jon Jones is much better than that... he was VERY VERY cautious and with good reason cause he didn't want Rampage to touch him and go to sleep. I also agree with him that Rampage performance was impressive. He was very sharp on the TDD and the head movement. He just not let the hands and feet go and its a damn shame!
I was saying this would happen, Rampage did what he could but both fighters were fearful (Jones admitted Rampages power was there and ran from it) and Rampage couldn't change his style and force the issue (also admitting Jones lengh and hands got to him); all in all, Jones will have easy wins in the division after this, and Dana White is trying to milk the division before letting him move to Heavyweight where ppl would have similar height and closer reaches (like Dos Santos)
One thing we've learned from tonight is that Jon Jones is not fearless... there was a little bit of doubt there. That's why he didn't really show up tonight.. he took the W which was great and he fought a "good" fight... just not as "great" as we know he is and that's something to keep in mind for the future. A less fearless Bones is less dangerous... I think he can beat Rashad.. but if he was in the same mind state of today and fashed Rashad today he'd be waking up the next morning wondering wtf happened in the fight.
Jones did show up, and he showed up in grand fashion. Rampage just happened to be on his game too. If Jones had landed a couple of those spinning elbows and kicks you wouldn't be saying what you are. But Rampage had studied the tapes and was ready to duck under them (which he had to several times). That being said, Bones was a bit more cautious this time around, but with good reason. Part of it is because of the type of one punch power Rampage has. Another part may be because he didn't want to screw up his first title defense, so he just emphasized the defensive side of things more...
Steven Seagal is most predictable actor/man you'll ever see, yet I still can't stop watching his predictable movies.
You watch Seagal movies still?
What Seagull said makes sense. He actually has good insight. I don't completely agree with him on some of the fights though. There were some good performances(like NAte DIaz and Tony Ferguson) and some weak fights(all the heavyweight fights on the main card that probably shouldn't have been on the main card). In the main event I did expect more from Rampage. Steve was right about him not leaving it ALL inside the cage. All I can say though is that it's all easier said than done. I guess he did what he could and Jones must be really that good. Evans will pose more of a threat though. How much? I guess we'll have to wait(again) and see. On a side note, Jon Jones' suplex at the end off round 3 was completely uncalledfor and unsportsmanlike. Also, his walking off in the middle of the Evans interview after the fight(known protocol in the UFC) complaining about Rashad raining on his parade just makes him look childish. He's a great fighter but he has a lot of maturing to do outside of his fighting.
Please stop interviewing this yellow-spectacled, delusional a$$ clown.
I mean, how can you respect a guy who seems to honestly believes that he is the ONLY person on the planet who can teach a front kick?
Helwani: "Did you notice Jones threw the front kick tonight?"
Segal: "Well, he hasn't learned it yet..."
I'm pretty sure somewhere in the several years in which martial arts has been Jon Jones full time job, someone taught him to throw a front kick.
what a ****ing idiot I like the way he just waltzes into the UFC and all of a sudden he is the Master and how he feels he could just go into one place backstage and start giving advice who the **** is this guy yeah he may know how to fight but I seriously doubt he could be very effective in MMA MMa ia a whole different animal
Didn't like the pop he had at Joe Rogan. Does he not know that Rogan does martial arts??? If it came to it I recon Joe would slap Seagal about. What he didn't mention as well was that Jones wouldn't let him backstage the night of the fight. Real close friend!!!!
lol
Actually, Joe Rogan has said A LOT of negative things about Seagal. Look it up on google. Rogan doesn't have the pedigree of martial arts that Seagul has either. Seagul actually didn't even say 1/10th of the things Rogan said about him. I hear what you're saying about Jones not letting Seagul backstage though.
cool I'll check that out!
I googled it. I disagree. Rogan and Bas are spot on in my opinion. And yes he is a "master" of Aikido but other than well choreographed demos where he seemingly tosses three guys about, what has he done? He certainly has not been a "fighter" all his life as he claimed (except on screen). He's a delusional idiot. Just listen to what he tells Ariel about Jones, then listen to Jones. He called jones, jones correctly dismissed his offer to "help" for the obvious reason that he has real trainers, not bloated self-absorbed wannabees. Good for jones.
So why would Anderson Silva AND Lyoto Machida(2 proven masters in martial arts) give him credit for the same kick? Nobody else has been able to knock out their opponents with the kick. Are you suggesting that they're lying? He said he helped them to tweak the kick and not that he invented the kick. Seagul has been respected in the martial arts world for a very long time and he doesn't just know Aikido. As for the situation with Jon Jones rejecting him I can understand that. The whole going to multiple training camps to the best fighter thing doesn't make sense to me. So he could say "I told him to do that"?? .. I question that move. Other than that, the man is legit and shouldn't be disrespected in that fashion(Rogan statements).
Good thing Jones denied "teaching" from Steven. That's like giving Anderson Silva inside information and we all know Jones vs Silva is going to happen either with the belts or without them. Jones knows this and doesn't want to jeopardize his chances at winning.
Silva loses that fight though. Jones is the "new" Silva. Speaking from a possible lucrative promotion standpoint, Jones and Silva would generate more cash money and interest, especially after last night.
Jones and Anderson are putting a huge shadow over the man called, GSP. These guys keep finishing and performing amazingly, while GSP struggles to put guys away that others are doing easily.
silva wouldnt dare to face jones.. he will just keep his reign in MW division
CLOWN
Still don't understand why this guy gets so much press. Ariel's stock is going down. First Pratt, then multiple interviews with this idiot.
I wonder what swat moves he going to teach Johnny Bones.
Segal now says he taught the enlgish fighters to spit
Brock Lesnar vs. Steven Seagal, now tharz a fight
i hate when fighters say they dont wanna fight each other because their friends!
Jon Jones has said he would fight Silva. Silva said he won't though cos he invited him to an event after he beat Rua and then declared their friendship. Pity really cos they match up quite well size wise with Silva for once not having reach advantage. In fact the only advantage I would give Silva over Jones is his timing is a bit better but Jones all round game, particularly his ground game is miles ahead of Silva.
I like how people bash on Steven Seagal for being a movie star which leads to him as a fake martial artists, but they never say that about Bruce Lee.....
cause hes dead Osi
bruce actually competed in fights in china back in the day.
I would pay big $$$ to see a fight to the death between Steven (the minds eye) Seagal and Gary (Straight-jacket) Bussey.
Thats a super fight in my book.
Seagal vs Rogan!
stick to fantasy movies will ya Segal
hey wait I told Rocky Marciano to use the front kick does that make me great too?
hey Segal go fight Al Gore he says he invented the front kick and the internet.
If Steven did bring tactical awareness and technical prowess to Silva/Machida then he's to be saluted in the highest terms-why? A real shock and awe result for one-2 strikes,2 knockouts-secondly i did not see one person on the net discuss the particular kick as a way to dismantle Belfort/Couture from their senses-2 highly skilled and decorated MMA vets who had seen it all-almost! If he suggested it then its a work of genius. If not then credit to whoever did.
