Stephan Bonnar vs. Karlos Vemola targeted for UFC on Versus 5Posted on May 10, 2011, 09:46 PM by Joey Santosus
A Light Heavyweight clash between TUF 1 vet Stephan Bonnar and Karlos Vemola is reportedly in the works for UFC on Versus 5 in August.
Bonnar initially revealed the bout via Twitter, while ESPN's Jon Anik followed-up by tweeting the event. UFC officials have since confirmed that verbal agreements are, in fact, in place for the match-up.
Bonnar (13-7) is coming off back-to-back victories for the first time since 2007. After suffering the dreaded three-fight losing skid, dropping bouts against Jon Jones, Mark Coleman, and Krzysztof Soszynski, "The American Psycho" bounced back in the latter stages of 2010, avenging his defeat against Soszynski and picking up a unanimous decision over Igor Pokrajac. Since debuting with the promotion as The Ultimate Figher 1 runner-up, Bonnar has went 7-6, with all but one loss coming against a current or former Champion.
Vemola (8-1), meanwhile, originally made his bones fighting as a Heavyweight on the European circuit, amassing a perfect 7-0 record before signing with the UFC. In his octagon debut, however, the six-time Czech Republic National Wrestling Champ suffered the first setback of his professional career when he was outpointed by Jon Madsen at UFC 116. Following the loss, Vemola made the cut to 205 and rebounded with an impressive first-round TKO win over Seth Petruzelli last November.
Though not officially announced, UFC on Versus 5 is expected to take place August 14th from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Additional bouts rumored for the card include Duane Ludwig vs. Amir Sadollah, as well as Cole Miller vs. T.J. O'Brien.
