Shogun's Ready To Face The Spider
Posted on June 5, 2010, 03:50 PM by NinjaMauricio "Shogun" Rua holds an impressive record of 19-4 with 17 of those wins coming via stoppage. He holds impressive wins over top fighters such as: Rampage Jacksons, Ricardo Arona, Alistair Overeem, Chuch Liddell and Shogun's latest victory was over the undefeated Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida for the Light Heavyweight Championship. Even though Rashad Evans is going to be the first fighter to try to take the belt away from Shogun, he is open to fight anyone espeically the UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva.
"I believe a fight against Anderson (Silva) would be the biggest of my career and my life, but these challenges motivate me a lot. I respect him because today he and Fedor (Emelianenko) are the best pound-for-pound in the world. It will be a very hard fight, but as I said before, the only guy I have affection for in UFC is Wanderlei (Silva). I am professional and I work for the UFC, so for me it is a duty to repay what they ask me. I would fight with anyone, including Anderson, that is at the top of pound-for-pound in the world." -Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
For now Shogun is set to face Rashad Evans, if Shogun is successful in defending his championship, a match with the "Spider" seems more likely than any other match.

nothing against shogun but i think the spider would win if the fight ever happen!
thats what machida fans said
i doubt it. weight classes for a reason. thats why the p4p argument is there. all the lhw s they gave silva so far were hand picked to make him look good. styles make matches and they hand fed him
Shogun used to train with Anderson at Chute Boxe.He is confident because he knows where they stand against eachother. Kind of like the way Chuck was confident that he was gonna beat the tar out of Tito, because they used to train together.
Albeit was a long time ago, if Shogun can come back to the form he was against Machida, Shogun will win the fight I believe.
Machida fans? Is that some lame attempt at an insult? I think Shogun is great, I think he'll reign for a while at 205...unless he fights Anderson. Shogun uses too many kicks and gets sloppy and over aggressive when he comes in and Anderson capitalizes on that style. You can't beat the best Muay Thai fighter in MMA in a Muay Thai fight...I could see Anderson ending it quick and violently or chipping away at Shogun until there's nothing left. I say quick and violently because we know there's no quit in Shogun and there's also no quit in Forrest and we saw what happened to Forrest...Anderson will stop him eventually
I still say Machida can beat Shogun. The fact of the matter is that at LHW all the top guys are just about even. Who holds the belt is mainly a function of who is having the better day. Machida can beat Shogun.
What about the Vitor fans? What happened to them?
Apparently Shogun had the better day TWICE!!!!
Shogun is going to lose to Rashad Evans
I think that is highly likely. Rashad is an excellent wrestler and Shogun has no take down defense. Even so though, it will come down to who has the better night.
Rashad was getting picked apart by Forrest Griffin, largely because of Forrest's use of leg kicks, until he got the takedown and pounded him out. Shogun's leg kicks are faster and harder that Forrest's and he is a much better striker. Even if Rashad takes Shogun down, Shogun's BJJ is too good to let Rashad keep him there. He's gonna beat Rashad up for a couple rounds and then knock his head off.
Shogun is one of my favorite fighters, but he is not ready for the Anderson Silva yet.
people wtf are you talking aboy Shoguns not ready for Anderson?
Shogun is not as good as Anderson?
Hes the Light heavyweight Champion!
anderson is the Midleeweight champion!
if someone needs to prove someting is Anderson Silva!
hes the one who will move up to another division!
would you say Anderson Silva is not ready for GSP?
or Lesnar for Shogun?
or GSP for bj?
hes the challenger not the other way around!
and Shogun will destroy the spider.
Anderson also fights LHW rember what he did to forest? i wouldnt go as far as saying shogun isnt ready for anderson but anderson is a legit lhw. anderson is quicker then shogun and is a better overal striker. anderson would win imo but it would be one hell of a fight.
Weight has nothing to do with it. Anderson is the guy to beat. I don't think anyone in the UFC can do it. GSP has a slight chance as do a couple of HWs but I wouldn't bet on any of them.
Where are all the Nlovers of shogun? Where is all the "shogun could beat Silva after what he did to Maia"?
Thats right, Silva would dominate in every area PERIOD.!
He is too quick and skilled
BOOYA!
At least we found the guy gurgling Anderson's nuts.
Like he dominated Sonnen?
How could Shogun not be ready for Silva ? He s been in this game for 7 years. Your all praising for Silva (and I am a fan too) but what kind of Superhuman has he beaten that makes u believe he is tuffer than Shogun?
They are very equivalent to me record wise and stylisctic wise. Both never been KO and sorry, but i dont see Silva putting Shogun to sleep. No ****ing way.
Can Silva get a decision by being smarter? tyea, that may be....
Shogun's style is what will give The Spider the KO or TKO, Shogun is too sloppy and over aggressive and leaves the openings that Anderson never misses and he uses too many kicks for Anderson not to catch or counter. You can't beat the best Muay Thai fighter in MMA in a Muay Thai match...he might not make Shogun sleep but he'll put him away
Idk whats so sloppy about Shogun's style that Anderson will just be able to pick him apart. And as far as best Muay Thai striker in MMA goes, if it weren't for his BJJ(not muay thai), Sonnen would have beat him. He got hit a pretty good bit by Chael, so Rua would eat him for breakfast. Their level of Muay Thai is comparable to each other, Shogun just has more KO power. It all comes down to level of competition, and Shogun's had a high level for a longer amount of time. Don't only look at who he's beaten, but how and (in relation to their prime) when he defeated them. Shogun is a better striker, Anderson's a better dancer. Shogun wins.
Defo A Silva should be fighting at LHW, its his natural weight. Thing is he dont enjoy so much of a reach advantage and i;m sure if he had a prolonged stint at LHW he'd lose more than once. Shogun is defo one of the fighers that has a decent chance against him, though its tough to call either way as they both hugely talented. I'd be very surprised if Silvas chin didnt get tested were these to ever meet.
I think Shogun would win this fight. 205 is much more competitive then 185 Anderson would get some problems with Jones 2. Maby Shogun wil get problems with this guy, he said that Jones is to good.
But presand day Shogun pound 4 pound!!! Oke Fedor is a little above him Dana is talking bullshit, like Mir and Noguaira are top fighters haha. Maby Carwin, Lesnar, Velasquez and Dos Santos but Fedor would gif them all a KO!!!! Overeem also in the mix
Haha Jones? Now we know you're irrelevant...
"We" being you and the rest of the A. Silva spunkguzzlers?
We? Now I know you want to be relevant oohh boehoe
"We" being the people with common MMA knowledge which Decarnate and Dutch seem to lack...Haha Jones? All I can do is laugh...hate Anderson all you want but he's still the best...haha Jones you got to be kidding me
I’m glad you have pride with your common MMA knowledge. I never sad i hate Anderson, i like Anderson a lot. and i do think Shogun is the best at 205. If you don’t see the potential of John Jones or you see is differently that’s fine by me. But don’t start with your irrelevant and the Dutch seem to lack its childish and doesnt make your points stronger rather weaker mr spidersilva fan
"We": Guys whose only bigger joy than seeing Silva dance around disrespectfully, is shoving an un-lubed Anderson Silva doll up their brown-eye and deep throating a can of pringles while watching him dance.
If it's common MMA (not UFC) knowledge, then why does Shogun get no credit in your book? UFC nut hugger.
The thing about this fight is that no matter what Anderson does, he is going to get hit. I think Anderson can potentially pick him apart and land more shots, but if he is afraid to get hit or has a weak chin he will lose. I don't think Shogun is a good match up for him and same with Vitor, but Anderson is the best fighter in the world and if he has a good game plan he can beat both of them.
Silva and Rua both of them are brilliant fighters with great personality and I never missed just 1 single fight from these warrior don't count Shogun out with skills for Muay Thai,JJB ... much tool and weapon and numerous of year experience to reigned at 205 LHW he has defeated ton of best fighters. I personally think he has no chance . "sloppy " the day Shogun lost to Forrest due to rumored his health condition, and reviewed the last couple of fight the way he executed his gameplan perfectly. Anderson moving up to LHW at 205 and challenge him just over hyped
The clinch is the key to who wins if they ever meet. They are both insanely good in the clinch and cause huge damage. I feel whoever could dominate that should probably win fight. Look what rua done to machidas legs in clinch then look at how silva uses his knees and its a very interesting match up.
I have no doubt at all with Anderson ability and incredible counter strike or clinch ,but he never tested himself with someone at 205 LHW with too much tools and skills like one of the best fighter like Rua .
If ever happen Silva vs GSP . I'll pick Silva win over GSP .
silva would win no doubt about it
i think he fights best at 205
I'd go with Anderson on this one. Putting them side by side i really don't see much advantages for Shogun.
Andrson's natural weight is HW he is bigger than Shogun just loosing weight not to fight stronger fighters he is not competition for Shogun and he never foght any one like him. Foresst walked into half punch Silva got no KO power he is just punching and running like chicken Maia was beating him in stand up fight in round 4-5 rounds and Sonnen f him up good dominated him for over 4 rounds and Anderson got lucky
