Shane Carwin says he would have a "puncher's chance" against Emelianenko

In a quick small scale Q&A session with Underground Forums, UFC's number 1 contender for the Heavyweight title, Shane "The Engineer" Carwin was asked about a fight with the worlds number 1 heavyweight, Fedor Emilianenko.

Of course, this is all a hypothetical situation, but it's a question almost every fighter is asked at some stage in their career, Carwin had this to say about a possible fight:

"Hard to say, he is the elite. I think I would like 6-12 months of more training to face him. Right now I would have a puncher's chance," Carwin stated.

Shane Carwin also decided not to rule the possibility of moving to another promotion, seeking for a fight against Emelianenko: “I love competing so where ever that takes me,"

Carwin faces his toughest challenge yet, in an interim title bout with Frank Mir at UFC 111 on March 27th, in a fight that will guarantee him a shot at the Heavyweight title, regardless of who holds it by the time the match comes around. Carwin holds an 11 - 0 record, and is 3 - 0 inside the octagon, with wins over Christian Wellisch, Neil Wain, and Gabriel Gonzaga. So far, Crwin's longest fight has lasted just 131 seconds, his quickest is 22 seconds.

I think Carwin is right, it could be an upset if he manage to land a good punch on Emelianenko´s chin, but then you need to think that Rogers had the same chance and got TKO, he does have a chance just like any fighter has against anyone in MMA but then again, Fedor can take the fight whatever he wants...

I think the biggest challenges to Fedor in UFC are Brock, Velasquez and Mir.

But then again, who am I kidding. It is Fedor that we are talking about.

I bet he can KO Fedor with a couple punches though. It only took 1 with Gonzaga

i bet he could hes got big big power!

    but so does fedor!

beside carwins chin hasent been tested , gonzaga hurt him !

and Fedor has more power than gonzaga!

so Fedor has more power than carwin or the same!

but hes faster and has better chin then him!

but for sure carwin has a chance a long shot but is a chance!

i think Mir is the biggest threat to Fedor because of his size and bjj

and Velazquez because of his endurance and carwin cuz of his power

but their chances are less than 60 % Fedor will be undefeated for a while until he gets older and lose his sharpnest

First let's see the weak chin of Mir take a couple shots from Carwin to determine if he even has a puncher's chance

rodgers was undefeated all knockouts and what happen to him...i think mir and brock could beat him carwins got a chance but not like these two tho...cain can take him down i belive but we will never know cuz dana wont have it,especially if they stand that chance to lose.

Mir don't have chance.. he cant KO fedor.. i mean Fedor fought nog 3 times and he fought on the ground with him, and nog couldn't get any submission.. so the question is, who out there has super speeds with good ko power and a good sprawl against take downs.. the person with that will be the best opponent for fedor.

Firstly I consider Fedor to be the greatest fighter of all time, but I can tell you when the time comes for a new king of mma it will be Cain.

It is really great to see fighters like Mir and Carwin clearly state that they consider Fedor the number 1 Heavyweight in the world. I mean Carwin believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will beat Mir and Lesnar but Fedor? not yet.

Carwin has very impressive stand up. Fedor is heavy handed and has vicious KO's but is not that impressive standing up. He was getting worked by Arlovski til the flying knee. I think that Carwin would have a chance standing up, but if Fedor took him to the ground then he is f*cked..

Brett Rogers had a puncher's chance. The odds of Rogers and Carwin beating Fedor are about the same.

fedor is not gabe gonzaga. even if you hurt him, he's still capable of putting you out cold. carwin is overrated and even if he beats mir, he's still overrated.

Meh, any heavyweight has a punchers chance. The problem is, EVERY heavyweight would hit Fedor once, think he's in trouble then throw caution to the wind and get knocked out.

Fedor isn't an idiot(though alot of his fans are), it'd take a technical hard puncher with a brain to REALLY have a chance.
