Sam Stout: "I have no ill will towards him, but this is business"
Posted on May 6, 2010, 09:09 AM by Daniel CassidyWhile many eyes will be focuses on the likes on Shogun, Machida, Koscheck, Kimbo and Daley, there is another fight on the main card which has as much potential to be foght of the night as those which feature bigger names. Sam Stout may not be as well known as The Dragon, but the man they call "Hands of Stone" will enter the cage looking for another war, this time against Jeremy Stephen.
Going into this fight, Stout currently has an unprecedented FOUR Fight Of The Night Awards. He holds an overal mma record of 15-5-1. 8 of his wins have ended in knock out, 1 via submission, 1 via corner stopage and the rest via decision. He holds notable wins over Spencer Fisher, Joe Lauzon and Matt Wiman. He is 26 years old and hails from Ontario, Canada.
Stephens though is no slouch. He comes into this fight with a similar record of 17-5. Only 1 of his wins have went the distance, 14 have ended via knockout, technical or otherwise. He also holds 2 wins via submission. He holds 2 very impressive Knock Out Of The Night awards, and holds notable wins over Cole Millar and Rafael Dos Anjos.
Speaking ahead of what i personally think will promise either KO of FOTN award, Stout had this to say:
“We didn’t talk a whole lot, We weren’t calling each other or anything. I have no ill will towards him, but this is business, This is what we do. When the cage door closes and they tell us to go at it, I’m going to go at him.”
“I’m aware of the fact that on paper, this is a fight that is pretty exciting with how we match up stylistically, We both like to stand and we both like to throw heavy punches. I’m sure it’s going to be exciting to watch.”
“I try to get better for every fight and my last fight, I think I had my best performance,” Stout said. “A lot of that had to do with how I trained for the fight, so I really tried to mimic that last training camp and do the same this time.”
Whatever happens this Saturday night, don't miss this one!

Stout has looked impressive, especially against Lauzon, who I thought he would lose to. If he shows up for this fight the same way I dont see him losing. I like Stephens but he can be inconsistent at times.
Stout should hold off on trying to get fight of the night against Stephens. Trying to stand and trade with Stephens is a mistake. Stout should definitely fight a smart fight by picking his shots or taking it to the ground.
