Rumor: Brock Lesnar will return to the UFC in 2012

News broke today that Brock Lesnar indeed may return to the UFC after showing his face ringside at UFC 146. The much-discussed former UFC champion recently made another foray into the world of WWE after suffering a TKO loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141. Many thought that Lesnar was indeed finished with MMA, as diverticulitis and two vicious knockouts in a row began to take their toll. However, today it appears that is not the case.

Soon after UFC 146, rumors swirled about Dana White meeting with Lesnar. While they did meet, it was reported to not have gone well, perhaps squashing any hint of Lesnar's return to the UFC. Those rumors have returned with a vengeance, according to Mike Sawyer of ToughTalkMMA via Twitter.com:

While Sawyer did say that this is in no way confirmed, we will have to wait and see how the the situation plays out. It is, at least for now, just a rumor. However, more rumors speculate that Lesnar is under a lot of heat for appearing at the UFC event last month, but there are many specifics to be considered and worked out concerning his WWE contract. As of today, Lesnar is scheduled to appear at the next WWE pay-per-view. Obviously he would have to be released from the WWE depending on what his current contract dictates.

This could be huge news for the UFC, as Lesnar has shown he is their biggest draw. The question remains if he is still relevant in a very talented UFC Heavyweight division. Who will his next opponent be should he return? Names like Roy Nelson and Stefan Struve could arise as possible opponents. A grudge match with Frank Mir, although currently unlikely, could be a huge draw. Will Brock Lesnar enter the UFC Octagon in 2012?

its not his chin you need to worry about its his heart. also he has not developed the stirking skills he flinches to much and does not stay in the pockets he kinda cowares away, although i wud do the same if i had gotten hit by one of his last three opponents but i am not 265 plus pounds of solid muscle and a former heavyweight champ

If he is going to come back he should take 8 - 12 months to develop his striking skills

It should not happen, he is down and can't take a punch.

He hasn't been able to take a punch from Velasquez, Carwin and Reem - 3 of the hardest hitters in the world. I don't blame him for going down after taking that kick of Reem, that would have finished anyone.

I say give him either Struve, Nelson, Big Foot or someone else around that level.

a fight big foot would be gargantuan - both are coming-off losses from top contenders; should be an ideal match.

nelson would be interesting, since he has one-punch KO and excellenct grappling

I think it'd make sense for him to face Mir if he comes back, considering Mir's latest loss.

I personally don't think a guy (Mir) who just lost a title fight should be the next opponent for a guy (Lesnar) who's lost 2 in a row. I know that the UFC is going to want a moneymaker match for PPV, but if Mir hands Brock his third in a row, where does that leave him?

I personally see them putting a lesser name (and best win opportunity) in the cage with Brock. Who that is.....IDK?

I bet he didn't want JDS. That's a terrible matchup for him. I also would bet that Dana begged him to come back, rather than the other way around. The UFC's ratings have been dropping, and Brock is the biggest draw in the company's history. I wouldn't be surprised if they doubled his last contract to bring him back.

He's the #1 pay per view draw in UFC history - and it's not even close. I would say that's a pretty damn good reason. He's a fantastic athlete with great wrestling. He's not well-rounded by any means, but he there are probably less than 10 guys on the planet who would beat him, so to say he can't fight is ridiculous.

I'd take a beating for $400,000.00 a fight too. His draw puts him in fights he hasn't earned and that bothers me. If this is truly a sport, then get in line. He played his part but his "accomplishments" were handed to him.

He smothered Mir with his weight, Carwin gassed after throwing carelessly, and Randy weighed 215lbs when they fought. And like I said, he didn't have to put in a fraction of the time as did JDS, Cain, Mir, and so on. And exactly how much he made isn't the point although the point you made supported mine

    First off.. Mir got KTFO

second... If I remember correctly Carwin was KO'ing everyone he faced in the first round and was looking unstoppable till he faced BL. + he didn't gas out because he was out of shape, Brock took more punishment than any other guy Carwin ever faced.

third.. Catptain america was a ligit heavyweight for years it was because of guys like brocks size that made him rethink of staying there.

love em or hate em he puts on some of the most exciting fights.

I think what everyDay was partly saying is that Brock didn't deserve to be in those fights to begin with. He didn't have to climb the ladder most have to.

Come a long way from him being the baddest man on the planet that never was. Even so, he got balls to get in there and test himself against some of the best fighters and I think the experience has humbled him a little which is good to see. Losing a belt is nothing when you gain a virtue.

I think when Brock got seriously ill he became a better person but lost whatever edge he had as a fighter. He was one dimensional, but also took out Mir and Carwin, neither of whom is a walk in the park.

I hope he sticks with the WWE or gets into some other acting gig.

I would love to see Fedor wreck Lesner. They should hype it up first though. Let Lesner fight Big Foot and Fedor fight Werdum. Winners meet in a way over hyped "super" fight. Unless of course Big Foot wins in which case we see a legitimately interesting fight.

What would be the point of Lesnar coming back? The UFC actually has most of the top 10 guys these days and he won't just get to fight cans anymore. If he does have to comeback to prove he never was a real fighter have Lesnar fight Cormier as his comeback fight would be fun.

The point is that nobody in the HW division is anywhere close to Brock in terms of generating PPV buys and ratings. And exactly who are you calling a "can"? Almost all of Brock's fights were against former, interim or eventual champions.

Brock Lesnar calls the shots about who he wants to fight and what card he wants to be on. he might not be given a title shot but he can pretty much pick any other guy underneath he wants.

Dana has said a million times how difficult Brock Lesnar is to negotiate with. he arrived on the UFC scene as a millionaire and as an angry man.

Brock with his PPV draw status is one of the few guys who can tell Dana how to wear his pants. Brock brings serious revenue.

The big questions will be how can brock lesnar reconcile with his comments when he retired and told Dana that Reem was just that much better than him.

Rumour has it, that Brock is coming back to take part in the UFC's first tag team event.

My suggestion for a fair tag team match up,

Brock and Rick Flair V's Cain Valasquez and the ghost of the British Bulldog.
