Roy Nelson: I will try to cut down to 205 if 100k fans Like my page on Facebook

No, this is not a joke.

TUF 10 Winner Roy Nelson revealed he made a bet with one of his friends, promising that he will "try" to cut down to 205lbs if 100,000 fans "Like" his page on Facebook. The deadline set by Roy Nelson is two weeks, as MMA fans around the world have already added more than 10k likes in the past 12 hours (Nelson started with 31,982 fans, he's at 43,303 now).

Here's what Roy Nelson said about such an unusual bet (via BloodyElbow.com):

"The reason is my friend and I had a discussion about what was better? I think twitter just because of use and for fans interaction, but Facebook is 20x bigger. So we decided to bet. I said if it so easy and great I should be able add 100K fans in 2 weeks because I have that on twitter. Facebook is bigger and better so this should be easy. Right?

Bet is I will try to get to 205 if I can add 100k to Facebook.com/RoyNelsonUFC in two weeks. I love to win bets. Plus he will have to give me a part in his next movie."

BloodyElbow.com's Anton Tabuena made a pretty smart analysis of Roy Nelson's decision "to go viral" about his weight. According to Tabuena, Nelson got himself a win-win situation:

"I think it's a very good ploy, where Roy Nelson wins regardless of how this bet turns out. Why? He gets more attention, and he also gets more "likes" and "followers" either way."

I have to agree with the mentioned above statement, but would like to add that it's simply all about Roy Nelson being Roy Nelson. Big Country is not taking himself very seriously if he puts such an important career decision in the digital hands of social media. Yet, as a fan, I would love to see Roy Nelson fighting at 205, so I already clicked "Like" on his Facebook fanpage.

So there you have it, LowKick'ers. You can "Like" Roy Nelson's page at Facebook.com/RoyNelsonUFC , and while you are there, make sure to "Like" the one of LowKick.com as well.

This is pure brilliance on his part. I've both liked his Facebook page and am following him on twitter now. I feel like a middle-aged woman waiting for the most recent celebrity gossip following this story. Can't wait to here what the other stipulations for this bet are.

Better idea....the UFC could just cut Nelson and make room for real prospects in the HW division. Nelson is not a threat to make a title run anytime soon, and he will never make 205.

I think what we are seeing now is a Roy who has realized he can control his weight. I think he doubted himself at first and now knows he can do it.

I think he can too. Go for it Roy, I'll support you man.

I dont always agree with Mr, but he made a good point that Roy's frame is not a HW, he was an over weight LHW. It will take time, but hes come this far, I think he can do it.

Unless Big Country has some kind of weird medical condition, also he needs to do to make 205 is a good diet guru, some self control and about 6 months to do it without losing strength.

Roy does not have the frame/body size of a heavyweight. I've been on the "Roy at 205" bandwagon ever since he lost to Dos Santos.

    Next stop, facebook...

he was a hermit, a loner, now he's surrounded with good people, people who know how to control weight, hes coming in lighter and lighter for every fight and he's obviously going to 205 at some point, whether he wins the bet or not..

Ha! An hour ago, when I liked it, it was 55,000.

It's already up to 60,000! Two weeks? I think he'll hit 100, 000 it tomorrow.

Will he need a new nickname? Less Big Country? Svelte Country?

What is with the mega "weak" hits?

Seriously, I'm all for internet tolerance and shit, but if there's anything here in this story you think is weak, stfu.

Unless it's Roy himself, setting up dummy accounts as fast as possible, trying to kill the bet!

hey probably can drop to 205, i mean he doesnt do anything but train all day. Most people that do try to lose weight have to do there regular jobs before they can even hit the gym. So yeah Roy can drop to 205

Well Roy doesn't need to drop to 205, he needs to drop to like 230 and then do a weight cut like all the other LHW's to 205. So all he really needs to drop is like 16-21lb.

How about we get him 1000 doctors that tell him being that fat is unhealty and a 100 coaches that tell him he'd be a better fighter at 205. And sure he'll try, but my guess is he'll give up after trying for 5-10 days.

40 pounds is not that much. I think he will loose this overweight pretty easy. Especially if he hires Mike Dolce!

He is not going to be quick enough at 205. He needs to stay at Heavyweight but fight at 235 to 245 so he has a better speed and cardio than his heavyweight opponents. Against Fabricio Werdum he was just to slow, shed a bit of weight and increase his speed and hes fine. But drop to lightheavy weight and he won't have the speed to compete with a Rashad Evans or Jon Jones.
