Rory MacDonald: I wanted to fight Carlos Condit, but the UFC offered BJ Penn
Posted on June 11, 2012, 11:44 AM by Anton GurevichSpeaking in an interview with MMAJunkie.com, UFC 152 co-main eventer Rory MacDonald revealed he was originally looking to get a rematch with "The Natural Born Killer" Carlos Condit. MacDonald will be facing the legendary BJ Penn instead, looking to cement his spot in the mix for a shot at the UFC Welterweight title:
"Carlos Condit," MacDonald told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). But he's busy right now. He's got a fight coming up, so I have to work my way up to that level (with someone else). But then the UFC approached me about the fight with B.J. It sparked my interest, so I figured, Why not?"
Fresh off his victory over Che Mills at UFC 145, Rory MacDonald is widely considered as one of the top talents in the world of Mixed Martial Arts, with a clear potential to become the next UFC Welterweight champ.
Back in April, Georges St. Pierre admitted he's not interested in fighting MacDonald, and would rather move up in weight classes to Middleweight (via ESPN.co.uk):
"I'm not interested in fighting him. There are a lot of welterweights. I don't think we need to do it now. In two years, who knows? I may go to middleweight. Who knows what's going to happen?"
Rory MacDonald is currently 13-1 in his MMA career.

Now that would have been interesting if he won that fight. Then what would have happened???
Suga vs Bones will happen
lol he says that now but he called out BJ he said yes and now its I really was hoping for Carlos but if they say I need to fight BJ I will ...... come on u got ur wish dont be scared....lol
Bad move. Rory should be fighting Kampmann or Hendricks. Rory has everything to lose and not a hell of a lot to gain. BJ is already a legend, and win, lose, or draw, it won't matter to his legacy. If Rory loses it sets him back more than a few notches.
And what will happen if fight and lose to Kampmann or Hendricks? If you are top contender any lose sets you back more than a few notches unless you are one of these Dana White Goldenboy
Rory has nothing to lose fighting BJ Penn... If he loses so what he is an up and coming young fighter who lost to one of the sports legends, big deal. If he wins he clearly puts himself into the top of the division. That being said Rory Macdonald is going to destroy BJ Penn.
Insane fight and cant wait for the first round! after that it isnt hard to guess what will happen
Rory will gas and BJ will catch him with a head kick
What ticks me off is that I am pretty certain BJ Penn could have excellent cardio if he worked at it. Imagine a BJ Penn who fought as hard in the last round as the first. He would still be champ.
I am kind of bored with the GSP won't fight MacDonald story. What about the Wanderlei won't fight Anderson Story? Or Koscheck won't fight Fitch story? Or coming soon--Cain won't fight DC story.
When Rory has fought two more top WWs besides Penn and defeated them--then let's debate the issue. Right now, MacDonald has potential, but he is still a ways from a title shot.
He said he wanted Condit but was offered BJ Penn?
Hewas the one that challenged BJ the other week
I am pretty sure this was a publicity stunt orchstrated by the UFC and possibly Penn.
BJ always did like the public challenges and response.
we all know that all this title mix list - Mcdonald,Kampmann,Hendricks, and even Condit, would soon all be irrelevant once GSP gets back and demolishes them one by one. And then we'll just have to wait once Nick Diaz is eligible (and willing) to fight again. Am not a GSP fan here but, just saying.
and there goes a weak vote.
Erick silva vs rory ,cdonald would be epic, WILL be epic, because I much as I want BJ to win, he's not..
